Chapter 19:
YOUR ONLINE READER KILLER
I laid myself down on the bed. I thought of our conversation last night about moving out.
Next week we will be moving out. Yes, we will live there in my father’s province. I was surprised, but everyone agreed. I only agreed just to finish the table conversation so I could finally play my games. But I didn’t imagine that it was official.
*cellphone rings*
My ringtone sounds cool. I danced and sang while listening to my ringtone until I noticed that someone was calling. I peered at the one who called me, and it was Rico, the idiot.
"Yo!" I greet him.
“Yo, ‘sup?”
"Just finished my dinner. And you?"
“You sound happy.”
"Me?"
“Who else am I talking to? Your ghost?”
"Not at all."
"Enjoying your ringtone again?" He knows me well.
"Yup"
"You’re leaving for real?"
I already told him about that.
"Yeah. I bet you'll be sad."
“You bet! Regards and safe travels. Hope the new people you meet know how to protect themselves from you.”
And he has the time to insult me.
"Alright, goodbye then!" I ended our useless conversation.
“Hey, Winwin! Pack up!” I heard Vea’s voice outside my room.
Tss, here we are again. And since we're moving out next week, they're asking me to pack my stuff because I haven’t fixed my things yet.
I stretched my arms and legs to get rid of the sluggishness in my body.
I rummaged through my old clothes to throw them away or give them away. I packed some of my clothes that I won’t be wearing in the next week. I hid some of my action figures and a few comic books in a big box.
I bent down to look under my bed because there was still some garbage stuck in there.
I got something… what is this?
I grabbed it, and it was a Barbie doll.
Why is Janey's toy here?
My room’s a mess. I don’t need more piled on.
I cleaned the bottom of the bed and saw two Barbie dolls. The Barbie girl had messy hair, dirty clothes, and a disheveled head. The Barbie boy, on the other hand, also had dirty clothes with red dirt and a broken neck.
"Janey!" I called her, who was just across from my room.
"Oh?" she answered irritably.
"Come here."
"Why, Winwin?"
“Come on”
She entered my room.
"Oh?" she asked, frowning.
I stood up and showed her the two dolls. “Why are your toys here?’
She frowned even more and took the two dolls from me.
“No, Winwin. These are not mine.”
“Tch. You won’t admit it? You’re the only one who plays dolls here.”
"No, not mine." She returned the two dolls to me.
I didn’t take it and scolded her.
“Then who is playing with a doll here? Me?”
"Yes"
"What?"
"It's in your room, so you must be playing those."
If only she’ll admit it, then the case is closed.
“Just take these to your room.” I handed the dolls to her.
“It's not mine! I play with dolls, but these are not mine!”
And she threw a tantrum. The dolls fell out of my hands when she refused to accept them.
"How come?"
She pointed to the dolls. “I never had Barbies like that, and those are dirty. Mine’s not. Mama doesn’t buy me boy Barbies!”
“Okay, whatever.”
I handed the dolls to her again to keep them away from my room and restart my decluttering.
“Throw it away if you want. Don’t mess with my room again, okay?”
She didn't answer but stared at me. I suddenly felt sorry for her.
"Oh, why?" I asked.
“Winwin, I hate that.”
She stared at the dolls lying on the floor.
“C-Creepy…” she whimpered and ran away to her room.
I took the dolls and stared at them. Janey must be telling the truth. These are crappy dolls. Who would even play with these?
I went down and threw it in the dirty kitchen.
I went back to my room when Janey went back to my room.
"Hey, get out. I need to clean first," I ordered her.
She’s sitting on the floor near the bed.
"Look," she said.
She handed me something, which was my silver digital camera. I took that and turned it on. I saw some photos. This is our old digital camera that has been hidden somewhere for years. I used to look for it, but just found it now. I was smiling at the photos. This is the field trip during my grade school days at the amusement park. I burst into laughter when I saw Rico's idiotic face here. Yes, we’ve been friends since I was a kid.
“Ahaha! Winwin's ugly! Horrible hair, haha!” Janey teased.
Yeah, I'm ugly here. Oh, yeah, I had that old-fashioned haircut. It was so popular back then that it would make me a clown today.
I pressed the ‘next’ camera button and was confused at what I saw. My smile faded when I glimpsed at the photo. A man was lying on the floor. His face and neck were bloody as if he had been stabbed. His pale eyes stare at me. His clothes are dirty. I don't know what the man looks like because his face is covered with red liquid, blood.
The heck! How did I take such a picture when I was young? Was it a stage play at school? From a movie? But it looks so real to me.
I zoomed in to see better, but it just blurred.
I sat down at my gaming area and turned on the desktop. Grabbed some cables, hooked the camera to the desktop, and got ready to upload the pics so I could see them better.
A few minutes later, I was scrolling through them one by one, but that weird bloody photo wasn’t there. I checked the file names. They were all in order. Opened the camera again and, boom, the photo was still there. It left me dumbfounded.
What's wrong?
Out of annoyance that the camera might be broken, I ignored transferring it to my computer. Surprisingly, that picture is still on the camera but cannot be read on the computer.
"Winwin, what are you looking at?" Janey asked. She’s still here with me.
I hid the camera from her. This might scare her, but I think she caught a glimpse of that picture.
‘’Whatever you saw, just forget about it, okay?”
That picture might cause her a nightmare, so I must protect her innocence.
"It is pure black." She pointed at the camera.
I frowned. “W-What?”
“There was no picture, Winwin. What are you looking at the camera?”
“You only see pure black in the camera? No picture of a man at all covered in red paint?”
She nodded.
I stared at the photo, but I could still see a man lying down and bleeding.
I can feel my hair stand on end.
I just let Janey out of my room and quickly turned off the camera. I got off and went to the dirty kitchen. I threw away the old digital camera so no one else could see it. Then I went back up to my room.
I sat in my gaming chair to turn off the desktop to finish packing. There is a picture displayed on my computer that made me speechless.
The picture of the lying, bloody man from the digicam is already on my computer’s screen!
I cannot transfer that photo from my camera to computer because it was unreadable, so how?
I decided to delete the picture on my desktop. I clicked ‘delete’, but I couldn’t. I tried deleting my other files, but it worked just fine except for this one. I right-clicked my mouse and checked for its details. It has no date. Its file name is odd compared to the default file naming of a digital camera.
Its file name is, YOURENEXT
This is not a good joke.
