Chapter 21:
YOUR ONLINE READER KILLER
Enrico: In your dreams
Me: Anyway, I’ll let you know if I’m eyeing someone here
Enrico: The class isn’t the same without you, but the teachers seem happier now that you’re gone.
Me: I’m not gone, idiot!
Enrico: You are
Me: I live far away from Metro City, but my soul will remain there to haunt all of you! Bwahahaha!!!
Enrico: Wow, scary
Me: As you should
Enrico: Good luck with your new life there, mate!
Me: Tell them I said hi to them.
Enrico: Sure. I’ll tell ‘em you never liked them
Me: Get lost, will you?
Enrico: You already did
And our short conversation ended. I laughed secretly at Rico and his jokes.
I bet my classmates miss me there, except the teachers. They must be glad I no longer attend their classes because of my cheekiness. And some of my classmates are probably missing their class clown.
I lay down on my bed to sleep. It’s pretty hot. We haven't installed the air conditioner yet because we just moved here, so I only use an electric fan. The windows were closed, so I couldn't feel the breeze.
I barely opened the sliding window, about halfway through. There are probably no thieves here because we don't have a neighbor.
I went to bed again. I first glanced at my phone, stuck under the pillow, to check the time. 9:12 PM, still early. I was about to turn off my phone when I caught a glimpse of a shadow in the window.
I checked it again, but it was nothing. Must be my imagination. In an instant, before I completely lay down, there was a shadow again!
I stood up, trying to figure out what kind of animal was freaking me out, but all I could see were trees. I lay back down, scrolling on my phone, when out of the corner of my eye, a pair of white eyes stared right at me through the crack of the window.
A cold shiver ran down my neck, and I focused my phone’s flashlight.
My eyes went wide. Those eyes were real! They’re moving, and I’m sure I am not hallucinating!
I jumped up and slammed the sliding window shut.
W-What was that?!
I dashed to the window to shut it, but it wouldn’t budge, like it was stuck. Then I saw why.
There are two crawling hands gripping the other side, holding it open!
“Ahhh!” I screamed.
I can feel the chills in my spine.
I pushed harder with my right hand, bracing my left against the wall. Suddenly, a cold, cracked, walking hand grabbed my right hand, and I froze, forced to let go of the sliding window.
"Darn it!”
Because of the shock when the cold walking hand touched me, I let loose, and I closed the sliding window on a whim, causing my left hand to hit and be sandwiched by the window.
Argh! That hurts.
I sat down and rubbed my left hand, which was hit by the sliding window.
The hands pried the window open with force, and the moment I let go, it slammed shut, sending a sharp pain through me. I shone my phone’s flashlight on my hand and saw it was bleeding.
The impact was strong, as if I had broken a bone in my hand.
I pressed it harder.
“Ouch”
I looked out the window. The cold, gruesome, crawling hands were gone. I closed the sliding window quickly to prevent the monstrous hands from invading.
I am sweating from the horror I had witnessed.
What was that all about? Why the heck are there crawling hands like that?! This is not possible, is it?
That’s right. This is all part of a dream! My wild dream.
Yes, we moved into a province, but it doesn’t mean, there are paranormal activites here, right? We’re in a modern age where nonsense stuff like this doesn’t exist, at least in our minds.
“Winwin! Wake up! You've been lying there for minutes without moving like a dead body. We thought your soul was in the other world.” I heard the little girl’s annoying voice. I covered my head with a pillow.
“Winwin, up now!” she insisted on waking me up.
Ah, here we go again.
The noise of these two made me get up. This must be their wake-up call for me.
"What's your problem?" I scolded the two who were standing inside my messy room.
I need more sleep because I didn’t get enough sleep last night.
"Wake up and we'll fix the house," said my older sister, holding a broom. “Quit being lazy. We’ve got plenty of tasks to do, so hurry up!”
She made me scratch my head. What an awesome morning to be greeted by your two noisy sisters.
Janey approached me. If not for this girl’s pigtails, I would have gone mad at them.
“Why are you sweating so much? It's not that hot here.” The little girl asked.
I felt my sweat dripping down my right ear. Yeah, I was sweating.
I gazed out the window. The sun is up; it’s now morning.
I remember what happened last night, the eyes staring at me and the two gruesome crawling hands…
But I smiled. It was all just a dream. I thought it was true because it seemed real. Maybe I had a realistic dream about a monster that made me sweat badly.
“That's right, that's what happened, Lewin, so you don't have to bother,” I whispered to myself.
I sat up and was about to leave the bed when Vea approached me. She grabbed my left hand, and her two eyebrows met.
What’s she up to this time?
"Oh?" I asked her. “Why?”
She seems worried. "Hey, Lewin, what did you do with your hand?"
I peered at my left hand, and my eyes widened.
I have a dry wound on my left hand.
What I believed to be just a dream—or rather, what I want to believe was only a dream turns out to be a reality.
“I-Impossible…”
