Chapter 21:

Dragon V.S. god

Epimetheus: To each their own Sekai.

Manako gazed into the golden sky at the battle that unfolded. Wind buffeted her faces as the two existences battled.

Golden tendrils erupted from the extravagant chest resting in the tree’s canopy. Rushing toward the dragon, its azure body contrasting the sky.

Raaaaah!

The dragon, responding to the new threats with seeming annoyance, sent spouts of steaming water to meet them. The two forces clashed, the impacts blooming like flowers.

Ting!

A golden tendril, sneaking behind the dragon, bludgeons its mid section, gold spreading over its scales like gold leaf.

“ROAR!”

The dragon, sensing the danger of the attack, changes its tactic to flying upwards. Towards the empty sky, the dragon retreats, running from the golden tentacles.

Chasing, as if a fox hunting a rabbit, the tendrils shoot into the sky.

The chase lasted for a few minutes, as the dragon climbed higher and higher into the sky.

As if in a dance, the two entities entered into a dance, seemingly becoming one with the wind.

However, after a few moments, the dragon's movements ceased.

The dragon, no longer dodging the golden tendrils, bit into one that hurtled towards it. In an instant, the tendril disappeared.

“Wha!?” After a moment, Manako understood. It’s magic! Those tendrils were just magic, with no real gold!

The dragon, turning and repeating the action on the other tentacles, began to rise once more. However, it quickly stopped, the reason for the god’s use of magic was clear.

“GRRRR!”

In the sky above it, a large golden net appeared. It camouflaged into the twilight sky, remaining unseen until the snake-like beast had entered its maw.

Quickly, the net wrapped around the dragon, forming a large spherical cage that slowly shrank around the azure Dragon.

“RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” The dragon roars in horror.

KUNG

A loud noise rings out, like a metal door slamming shut.

The golden cage consumes the dragon, slowly forming what seems to be a golden statue of the dragon itself.

““Wow!”” Manako can’t help but let out, matching the reaction of Nerissa in front of her.

The two watched on as the golden statue of remarkable craftsmanship floated in the sky.

The man, Absalon Ramoski, quickly closed the gap between him and the Dracofolk. His movements so fast, they almost became invisible to the naked eye.

“Wai-” The man tried to say before a fist plated itself in his stomach, knocking him out.

“There.” Absalon says, grabbing the man and holding him by the scruff.

“Wha-” So fast!

“Well then, young man…” Absalon walked up to Hiiro, ignoring the monsters that continued to flood into the city. “Good job, your performance was incredible.”

Absalon's hand tapped Hiiro on the shoulder.

“T-thank you sir.” Hiiro replied.

The red scaled man held up by his scruff was now clearly visible. The top half of his ragged outfit had been scorched, disappearing into ash. His chest had beige scales rather than red, and was rather thin. Just above the man's right peck, a strange symbol was seared into his scales.

Three snakes wrapped around an image of the world, their heads each biting onto a different moon.

“What's thi-?” Hiiro had begun asking, but cut himself off when he remembered his task. “I have to close the gate!”

“You’d have better not.” Absalon grabbed the back of Hiiro's robe.

“Huh?”

“Look. Seems it's already over.”

Hiiro looked in the direction he was, towards the large tree. From there, many golden tendrils shot towards them.

At blazing speeds, the tendrils came in contact with the horde of monsters and swallowed them whole. Once the liquid gold reached each of the gates, it congealed, sealing the openings and preventing monsters from further entering the city.

“We did it!” Hiiro cried out.

“Yes.” Absalon agreed, his eyes narrowing as he gazed at the golden statue floating over the tree.

The golden tendrils retreated from the dragon, now sealed in gold.

They immediately spread out over the city, freeing the three main streets of the monstrous hordes. It sealed the gates and prevented any more monsters from entering the city of gold.

All seemed well, until a small sound echoed.

Fffffffffft

A sound, like water leaking from a faucet, reached Manako’s ears.

“What?”

Looking upwards, her eyes landed once more on the masterpiece of a golden statue.

It was faint, however a small amount of water was flowing from a small crack.

BOOOOOM!

In an instant, the dragon exploded, steaming water shooting everywhere. Luckily, the dragon was high enough that the water evaporated before it reached the two girls in the canopy.

“CRAAAAH CRAAAH-” The dragon breathed heavily.

Large cuts marked its body, which still maintained its golden color.

Creaaak! Crack!

The dragon moved slowly, its body creaking as it slithered toward the cliff.

The golden tendrils quickly began chasing it, however, it managed to cross the boundary of the cliff and disappeared into the horizon.

“It's… Gone?” Manako asks, referring to no one in particular.

“It seems so.”

The city succumbed to silence for a moment.

“Ye-”

““““““““““YEAAAAAAAH!””””””””””

The Golden city of Lycynal had won a golden victory.
