Chapter 13:

Chapter 12.5 - Mirror, Mirror

An Original Sin

As Sy slept next to Nell, many things went through his head. More specifically, there was a dream. A dream he had many, many, times before. A dream he couldn’t rid himself of.

Sy was in his old house. He laid in his bed. He had all the technology that a child could dream of. Being the son of the richest man in Jeti, he never truly had limited options. He had a phone. He had access to the Zibernetikan communication network, to speak to people all across the world.

In this dream, he went on his phone. He opened an app and called his friends.

Through his earbuds, he heard them speak.

“Sy! Hop on roadblocks-”

He groaned.

“I’m tireeddddd…”

“I don’t care. Get on.”

Sy smiled. They valued him. They knew him as Sy, and nothing else. He was a blank slate to them.

A blank slate with an identity that he could grow.

From zero.

Knock Knock

His mother knocked on his door. Sy didn’t need to say anything, because she was going to come in anyway.

She opened the door softly and spoke.

“Z*r*e. You* U*c** ** g***i*g dr*****.”

Sy put his palm to his forehead and curled up into a ball. His friends immediately muted.

Every single time that Sy had this dream, it got less and less clear.

His old identity was pushing farther and farther away. He knew what would happen.

Soon, he would never see his parents again. He would never see his family again.

He would take the identity that his friends knew.

‘Sy’.

He would put it in his mirror. And he would observe it.
