Chapter 31:

The Grand Dungeon

Fist of the Bancho Rider

Reiji, Nraltia, Souma enter the grand dungeon with Xenon. Xenon says that they need to head down to the 20th floor. Each 10 floors will have a safe zone guarded by a boss monster. that allows for travel back and forth from the dungeon. The total floors of the dungeon is 70 floors.

Xenon orders Reiji to fight with Nraltia to speed up as their process, but he wants Reiji to fight alone. Stating that it will allow him to observe Reiji's capabilities for himself so he can better plan how to train Reiji.

The horizon blushed at the first touch of dawn, it's golden caress spilling across the land. Shadows softened, retreating, as the sky shifted from deep indigo to a pale rose.

A group of 4 riding upon 3 different mounts were galloping towards the dungeon, leaving a dust trail, eager to be the first group there.

A Half Elf riding an giant red two legged bird was running ahead, followed by an Oni riding a Direwolf, and lastly a pair of Human and Luporine Beastkin, riding a mechanical beast not of this world.

"How much longer?" Reiji ask as he rides alongside Xenon.

"Just a little under half an hour," The Guild Master replies.

"Why are we going so early?" Nraltia asks, holding on to Reiji.

"Because we, are going in before the Grand Dungeon is open. As Guild Master, I'm allowing you both into the Grand Dungeon despite not meeting the requirements." He smiles calmly.

"Tch. Doesn't this counts as abuse of power?"

"Maybe, but who's going to stop me?"

Grumbling under his breath Reiji chose to ignore Xenon’s cocky smile.

Reaching their destination, Reiji and Nraltia was at a loss for words. Before them was the sight of something out of this world.

A large structure combining both nature and ambition greeted them. A regal black door stretching five stories was carved into the small mountain protruding out of the earth, etched with both ancient runes, and glowing power lines.

Beside the door was a metal platform with giant runes etched along it, a giant mechanical orb lodged into it’s center, criss crossed with more glowing lines and runes, that decorated it’s semi transparent casing.

“Its said to be as old as the continent itself, a relic from an age of divine gods and magic, when those mighty beings still roamed this world.” Xenon explained to the first comers. “It’s normal for first timers to all be stunned.”

“It’s more Sci-fi than I expected.”

“You know, thats exactly what Alicia said the first time she came here too.” Xenon laughs lightly at his reaction.

“So, what are we waiting for?”

Leading the way, Xenon approached the stationed guards, flaunting his Guild Master badge to acquire passes, for Reiji and Nraltia, before leading them into the Grand Dungeon.

“The Grand Dungeon is a twisting Labyrinth, consisting of atleast 70 floors, that changes every 45 days. These passes are used as identification, as well as maps to log your exploration route in the grand dungeon. These are very mysterious relics. We modeled our adventurer plates after these.”

“A stone tablet?”

“Add your mana or ki to it.” The quiet Oni says, as he demonstrates, causing the stone tablet to change to a pearl white item with a blue screen, that displayed his name and stats on it.

“That’s not a pass. That’s a freaking smart phone.” Reiji shouts bewildered at the similarities of it to the device back home. However, the others just give him a confused look. “Uh… nevermind. Just lead the way.”

"Right, Souma could you lead the way, since you've already mapped out the route down to floor 20. Any monsters along the way, I'll leave it up to you three to handle, including the bosses of floor 10 and 20."

"Sure." Souma replies calmly before stepping through the doors.

"Alright. I can't wait." Reiji and Nraltia follows closely behind him.

Lastly the Guild Master steps through, smiling nonchalantly, as he too is engulfed by a bright blue light, upon touching the door, leaving no traces of the people who had just been here.

The sound of their footsteps echo across the floor, broken by the sound of distant dripping, and a low rumble that felt like it was coming from the hearts of machinery. The walls were broken up, part rock and dirt, part glowing metal, illuminating the floor, veins of foreign crystals sometimes protruded, pulsing faintly, eradicating the need for other light sources.

Normally the sounds of adventurers, escorted thrill seekers or merchants, fighting monsters, would echo throughout the floor, but it was still early, and the Grand Dungeon wasn't open yet.

Pushing ahead, Souma lead the other three down the corridoors, sidestepping traps, deftly maneuvering down the quickest path, turning around the sharp corners. They met with multiple monsters, crystaline monsters, of varying shapes and sizes, as well as wandering sentries made of metal, patroled the halls. Each set of monsters, swiftly dealth with through overwhelming fire power from the three.

The upper levels of the Grand Dungeon were the first 20 floors, with weaker monsters, traps, and treasures, most high level silver rank adventuring parties should be able to handle them with ease. The only reason, it was restricted to Gold Rank and above, was to do with resource control, and making sure the other three powers couldn't easily infiltrate the Grand Dungeon.
