His heart pounded as he reached a less patrolled corridor, the disused maintenance tunnel he had spotted on his initial reconnaissance. This was his best chance. He looked back, half expecting to see Samuël or Kän following him, but the hallway remained empty.

He slipped into the dark tunnel, the air thick with dust and the smell of old machinery. The small stones he carried were not for defense, but to divert attention. He would throw it to make noise, diverting attention from his actual escape route. As he ventured deeper into the tunnel, the faint sounds of the fortress faded, replaced by the echo of his panicked footsteps. He knew he had to hurry; it was only a matter of time before his deception was completely exposed.

Kän was actually a female detective looking for Albert's whereabouts.
