Chapter 2:

When my eyes see another world is where the time starts to run

Like I said, you have to be friends with the whole town within a year or you'll be erased forever

January 10th, Imperial Calendar of Viliose

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying on a bed. A faint scent of freshly baked bread tickled my nose, and I could make out two blurry figures standing nearby, watching me.

—Dad! The boy is awake! —shouted a guy with brown hair down to his neck. He looked like someone straight out of an adventurer’s guild. Beside him was a much shorter girl in a pink dress decorated with little crosses, her hair the same soft pink if the comment don't offend her she is a clearly loli.

Then, an older man, probably around fifty, almost bald, also brown-skinned—walked up and started checking me over.

—How are you feeling, boy?

I supposed he was talking to me, so I answered.

—Umm… I think I’m okay.

He nodded, then started firing more questions at me.

—What’s your name? Do you remember where you’re from?

—My name’s Hikaru Amanogawa, and as for where I’m from… Tokyo.

—Tokyo? —He paused, pretty confused. —Is that a village in the Celestial Kingdom or something?

Right… now that I think about it, before blacking out, I was talking to a goddess about going to another world. So this must be… that world.

—Yeah, that's it… — i lied

—Well, if you remember your name and where you’re from, then at least you don’t have amnesia. You just look worn out. I’d suggest you stay here and get some rest.

He turned to leave, but the younger guy stopped him.

—Dad, aren’t you forgetting something?

The doctor turned back around.

—Ah, right. You told us your name, but we haven’t introduced ourselves yet.

He put his hands in his chess.

—I’m Stephen, the town doctor of Sunbless. This guy is my son, Enphi—he’s an adventurer. And the girl over there is Claudine, a healer from the local church. Nice to meet you.

He waved and headed for the door.

—Nice to meet you too, sir —I replied as he left, leaving me with the other two.

—Hey, hey! Are you an adventurer too? We found a sword next to you in the forest, so we figured you were. How old are you? —asked Claudine with sparkling eyes.

—Claudine, don’t crowd him. He just woke up —said Enphi, though she ignored him completely.

—I’m twenty. And yeah, you could say I’m an adventurer…

It was a lie again. But they bought it.

—Oh! I’m twenty too! — so is really a legal loli.

—Wait, seriously? You’re older than me? —said Enphi.

—Eh? —I let that slip out. No way. This guy looked way older than me—taller, more muscular... I would've guessed 25 at least.

—Enphi’s nineteen, but he looks older. Everyone thinks that —Claudine said nonchalantly. Then she leaned in again. —So, what brings a faraway adventurer like you to our humble village?

—Well… I was tired of my old life, so I decided to leave it behind.

Okay, half-truth. University exams had been sucking the life out of me, and right before I died, I’d spent an entire month stuck in a hospital room. I was lossing my time in a  depressing room, that was filled with other patients. I just wanted to be out of there. This place might be a small clinic, but honestly? It already felt way better.

—Wow... So you came here for a change of pace? —Claudine tilted her head.

—Yeah. Exactly.

—Well, we’ve gotta go now. We’ll see you at dinner, okay? We’ve got a monster-hunting quest to take care of. Come on, Claudine. Let him rest.

—Wait, Enphi! I still have more to—!

Too late. He dragged her out before she could finish, both waving as they left.

I was finally alone… or so I thought.

Suddenly, a glowing screen popped up in front of me, floating in the air. The text was in Japanese:

Hope you’re getting used to the place. By the time you read this, I won’t be able to speak with you again for a while. Bringing you here took a lot of power, and I need to recover in case things get worse you'll not be able to put in contact with me while i'm sleeping . ”

I tapped the message, and it changed:

This screen is part of my miracle. Keep it with you as you journey through this world. It includes maps of the surrounding forest and a friendship bar for each person in the village. You’ll need to fill those bars to earn their trust. Help them with their daily lives. Be ready—even to evacuate the village if it comes to that.

I want to remind you if you let them all die you will disappear

Wait, evacuate the village ? It is going to be that difficult?

I kept reading.

The deadline for the disaster is still one year. That sword I sent with you—did it arrive? It’ll help you survive monster-infested areas. It might be tough to use at first, but you’ll get the hang of it. I believe in you. I trust that you’ll be able to save this village and its people from destruction.

Oh, and one more thing—the screen also has a built-in countdown. Exactly 364 days.

In the final days, things will begin to change irreversibly.

When the timer hits zero, i cannot garantize you and the rest of villiage survival. For you… and for everyone.

Good luck.
—Sypthia”

I closed the message, and sure enough, the interface showed a list of all the villagers.

But at the very top…

A time that goes from zero to fifty nine, from fifty nine seconds to fifty eight, again and again the number goes down . I don't like this feeling

If I understood right, that means I’ve got...

363 days and 10 hours left to change their future.
