Chapter 5:
Serving the dead in another world
“it’s known as re-wheel, which means, Revolution Wheel.
“It let’s you manifest arcana, mainly the nobles possess this wheel”? The voice, replied.
“Can you explain what arcana is?" Clerk asked further.
“Arcana is god’s grace, blessings, or power, gifted onto lower beings… Manifesting arcana, let’s you bend an energy, ‘Myst’ “.
"Myst?”, Clerk asked with a stern expression.
“Myst, like I said is an energy source”.
“Hmm… all your answers throughout feel half-baked… you’re not telling me everything, are you”?
The voice kept silent.
Subconsciously, he cursed the voice countless times.
Then Clerk asked,
“What exactly is the dead god’s will, and why does he want me to fulfill it”?
“That, I do not know, accepting to fulfill it may tell you his will and why he chose you, sooner or later”.
“Are you ready to return back”, the voice asked.
“I still have a lot of questions, but I am”.
“Gotta find my sister, I really hope she’s alright”.
“She’s safe”, The voice replied.
“YOU WILL REVIVE, STILL AS ‘RANDOM MARK’, Locating and REASSEMBLING your body might take a while, you’ll have to be patient.
“RANDOM MARK, are you ready”? Clerk replied with a strange but serious look on his face, “Yes, I am”.
For a split second, the black veil seemed to make a grin before dark haze began slowly rising and swirling round him, then it suddenly got faster, forcefully seeping into his body, leaking into every nerve and blood stream causing him to convulse. The pain felt so familiar—like he had experienced something similar. He slowly lost consciousness.
He heard a wet tear sound, like something gnawing on fresh raw meat. With one eye, staring lifeless at the direction the sound came from, it was from the silhouette of a small creature, standing in front of his lifeless body.
Snap!
His pupil shrank; he had regained his consciousness. He couldn’t move, he couldn’t feel his body, he felt suspended. Slowly the blurry silhouette became clearer. Its black, about the size of a sparrow and six eyes. Two on the head, one on each wing, and one right underneath it. It truly is a bizarre creature. But the strangest part was that it was feeding on Clerks most important organ… his heart.
Watching it feed on the heart, Clerk didn’t know it was his. He tried his best to even move his neck but he couldn’t, it was like he was trapped in a tight metal box with a single hole on the top, unable to do anything but just watch. Suddenly, the bird started convulsing, then it fell to the ground.
That’s when Clerk came to realize that, he has been on a huge tree’s branch that’s very thick. No. The tree’s branch had impaled him from behind, ripping out his heart from it’s cage. He was horrified and angry, angry that the strange looking bird had been feeding on his heart.
“Curse that damned bird, I wish it fell to it’s death”.
His limbs were missing, his skin filled with deep cuts and most part brushed off, a torn neck, a hole on his forehead, missing innards, his heart before his eyes, and hanging from a tree’s branch.
He didn’t feel any pain, neither did he panic. Slowly and gradually, he felt his body rebuilding. He was finally able to move his neck, looking around he saw pieces, organs and other parts of his body slowly crawling towards him, when they reach a certain distance, they’d float and rejoin with his body. The action is related to how metals react when a magnet is close-by.
“This is disgusting, I should be unconscious, not watching my own body get rebuilt with its former parts… who knows we’re it might have fallen”.
Thump, Thump, Thump.
He felt something approaching in a distance. “Is it a human”? “An animal”? “A monster”? “A prison guard!, has he come to look for my body”!
Clerk was in mental distress. If the guards were to see his body slowly rebuild, they wouldn’t let him escape, not for the second time. Each step it took, Clerk could feel it in his torso from where it was connected to the tree. As if noticing something the steps stopped. For a while it didn’t move, then suddenly it paced northwards at an incredible speed as if chasing something.
Clerk breath a sigh of relief… wait, he has no lungs! So how is that even possible?
All his limbs were now reattached, skin healed without leaving a scratch, white long hair that swayed with the wind, and most of his innards were in place, that includes ‘His Organ…’ were all in place, accept the heart. Due to the branch still through his chest, his heart couldn’t go back in. He had to do something and fast before night falls. Looking at his white hair, he thought to himself,
“I thought…I had black hair”.
Using his newly rebuilt arm, he began dragging himself towards the branch’s tip–from where his heart hung. He felt the branch sliding out, the cavity left blood trails on the branch. Using one hand he grabbed his heart, in order not to crush his heart, he held it with his teeth, biting lightly on it. Using the other arm he pushed himself off the branch, landing on all fours, like a feline.
Laying with his back, he gently placed his heart in the cavity, and it began reattaching. On his left, he saw the bird creature laying lifeless on the ground, it’s tongue stuck out with white foam in it. Clerk couldn’t help but let out a grin of satisfaction.
“Well deserved, don’t go around munching on people’s hearts, eat yours, stupid shit”.
“Ahh! Now I’ll have to get to human settlement and find my sister, the voice said she’s okay, I don’t trust that voice”.
He stood up, butt naked.
“But I’ll have find clothes first”.
[OBJECTIVE: FIND CLOTHES]
