Dark magic classes were everything Afela described them as. Our teacher, Yuesh, was a former torture expert. He told us about his time interrogating a demon. He went into such graphic detail I don’t even want to remember… let’s just say that the demon could never walk right if it managed to escape. “ Dark slash!” Yuesh commanded as a sickle appeared from his wrist. “ The cool thing about this spell is it takes on whatever sharp form you want!” He formed the blade into a pair of scissors, reminding us all of that horrible story he told. “ Dark Blade!” Afela formed a shiv, instantly picking up the spell. She chuckled for a second. “ Boo!” She pointed the dark blade at me. “ Uh, isn't this dangerous, Sensei?” I chuckle nervously. “ If anything, two prodigies messing around could liven up the class. Yuesh jokes briefly before clearing his throat in silence, “ But yes, it is rather dangerous, one slip in your output and...” The large spike he formed jetted forward, stabbing through the wall. “ I focused for a second on making my own dark blade. Again, I got the same message, ‘ use Dark Blade, confirmed’. In my hands appeared a Ninja Star. It was the first pointy object that came to mind… maybe because I loved Ninja manga so much, I dreamed of being a ninja when I was little… I smirked and held up the Ninja Star. “ Now, Boo Afela.” I grabbed onto the end of it. “ Oh, but it’s harmless fun when he does it, sensei. I say we both get in trouble for it!” Afela protest. “ G-Gen, can you throw that to the wall over there?” Yuseh asked hesitantly. I grabbed the Star by the blade between two fingers and launched it at the wall with all my strength. It flew for about a second or two before sinking into the floorboards of the classroom. “ hehe, my bad…” I said sheepishly. “ For what? That was insane. Most dark mages can’t get the blade more than 6 feet away from them, or the mana dissipates and the blade returns to its original state.’ Yuseh pats me on the back. “ Don’t forget who brought you to this class, traitor.” Afela throws a nail into the wall from beside me, leaving Yuseh in a state of shock. “ You two are my mutilated toes, just perfect!” I look over at Afela, a little creeped out by the metaphor Yuseh used. “ How nice of you, Sir,” Afela says sarcastically. After the whole spectacle was over, we practiced for another half hour or so, then it was time to go home. “ Oh, crap… I don’t have a home.” It hit me all at once, in the week I spent with Seren, I never once thought to ask her where I’d be living, as a matter of fact, she never brought it up.“ Hey, Gen, let’s go.” Mr. Dror called out to me. “ I don’t have anywhere to live. What should I do?” I asked him worriedly “ You’re brainless, you’re living in the dorm rooms. Seren bought your luggage earlier.” He sighs and starts walking away. I sprint at full speed to catch up to him as he leads me to my dorm. “ Given your familiarity with him, your roommate will be Chacham.” He says eating a pretzel-like snack. “ Um, Sensei, I won’t call myself the smartest… but there’s almost no chance Chacham likes me,” I said haphazardly. Before too long, we had arrived at the dorm, Mr. Dror opened the door, and the second I was through the entryway, he slammed it shut. “ Hello, Chacham?” I ask cautiously, I flip on the light switch, and quickly scan the area. “ I just can’t escape you, can I?” Chacham asks, walking through the door. “ We’re cool, aren’t we? I'm a nice guy.” I said, stowing my bags under my bed. Chacham sighs before closing the door. “ Whatever…” Chacham storms to the bathroom. I lay down to relax, but within a minute, I had fallen asleep. Over the next few days, I experienced all the magic classrooms practicing the 5 of the 7 major elements: Earth, Fire, Wind, Light, electricity, and, of course, darkness on my first day. Things with Chacham were still awkward, but today was the day I tried out water magic classes. “ Commoner, come with me…It’s time for water magic class.” Chacham said, glaring down at me. At some point, I must’ve been downgraded from transfer to commoner; maybe it’s an upgrade in his book? I don’t even know with Chacham sometimes. I followed him down the corridor to the classroom. “ Ah, Hello, I’m Ms. Mayim. You must be Gen. It’s nice to meet you!” Ms. Mayim walks over to me and shakes my hand excitedly. Over the course of the class, we went over the water ball spell. Halfway through, she showed us a new spell, “ Water Lancer!” A kelpie-like figure with a drill horn appeared behind her, and with a flick of her wrist, the creature attacked the wall, leaving a huge hole in it. I was about to ask about it, but then the wall started repairing itself. “ A feature of water magic is that it’s more advanced, though; the wall takes on the properties of water, making it just like the real thing; it always will assume its original shape.” Ms. Mayim says, smiling. After class, I went to Sabriya’s office as the swordsmith had delivered my sword during class. “ Ah! Master, it's great to see you again!” Sabriya runs over to me. “ Master? Just call me Gen if you would…” I said sheepishly. I looked around for the box with my sword in it. “ Ah, I know what you want, it’s behind my desk. Just close your eyes.” I could hear Sabriya shuffling things around behind her desk.. “ Okay… Open!” Sabriya handed me the box. I cut the string off, then slowly pulled apart the two parts of the box… I pulled the wrapping back and peeked at the sword. It was absolutely beautiful! After inspecting it, I found a button on the back that channeled all types of magic. I cycled through with all the elements I learned over the week. Just as I requested, there was no saya on the sword; the handle and sheath were pitch black. “ Wow, it’s nice and all, but isn’t it dangerous not having a hand guard?” Sabriya asks, staring into the sword. “ Then, I’d better not get hit there,” I reply half jokingly. “ I don’t want to hold you too long, but all swords are to be in the lock drawer after class. It's located in the faculty room in every dorm.” Sabriya hands me the wrapping for the sword. “ Wrap this around the sword when you’re walking to and from class for safety.” Sabriya shows me how to wrap the sword before we part ways. I open the door to the dorm and check in with the faculty member to register my sword and drop it off. “ Hello? I’m here to register my sword…” I walked into the faculty office, but nobody was up front. A teacher with snow white hair and a scar over his eye appeared from the back of the office. “ Yes, I’ll take that it’ll be in storage locker one, that first one on the left.” He said in a super deep voice. I give him a thanks, but as I turn around, I look back and notice his purple eye glowing with an unsettling fire. I headed back to the dorm and lay down on my bed, ‘This has been a long week!’ Magic is rather draining. I lay for about 20 minutes before I looked out of the window and saw ice shuriken flying and thumping into a tree. “ How cool! Hey, teach me Chacham!” I used the minimal wind magic I knew to safely descend from the window to the ground. “ This is my family technique, I wouldn’t teach a commoner like you if your life depended on it.” Chacham wiped the sweat off his face and shot another round of ice shuriken. “ You just need to do your master of nonsense stuff. I’ll be the best water magician of all time!” Chacham huffed as he continued exhausting his mana. “ I don’t know all that much about mana, but aren’t you overexerting?” I looked down and saw the steam coming off of him. “ More like definitely over-exerting.” I sat down beside him. “ No, I’m good! You have to push yourself to failure! You need as much practice as possible.” Chacham huffed and lay back on the grass. “ That’s enough for today, I’ll take us up through the window!” Without a second for Chacham to protest, I carried us both up through the window. “ Hm, thanks, I guess… I’m hitting the showers.” Chacham grabs his towel and walks away. I felt a cold presence outside the window; it wasn’t as intimidating as Pachad, but it was absolutely horrifying. I looked out of the window, cautiously peering around the corner. “ What the?” Chacham exclaimed from the bathroom.
