Chapter 6:
Losing Tomorrow
CHAPTER 6
“NEW DAY! NEW OPPORTUNITY! Today, I will not be awkward!” Fujio declared out loud while standing on his bed and striking a pose with his right arm stretched out. His declaration attracted the attention of his mom who walked into his room.
“A-MOM!” Fujio screamed while his face turned bright red. He immediately scurried into his closet.
After heading to school, he found Eiichiro in class and dragged him out to the front of school and made him search with him.
“Bro! Are you really trying this again? Birdwatching won’t get you anywhere” Eiichiro remarked.
“This isn’t bird watching man, give her some respect. Anyways, did I tell you about yesterday?” Fujio responded while being mostly focused on scanning the hallways as they walked.
After getting to the school gate Fujio started explaining what happened the previous day to Eiichiro, leaving out the part where he cried. The time passed just like yesterday, and right as they were about to leave Fujio spotted her.
“Hey! You! Brown haired girl!” Eiichiro started calling out to her, and Fujio tried to run away in embarrassment. He wasn’t mentally prepared to actually talk to her, but it was too late.
She noticed Eiichiro and started making her way towards them. Eiichiro nudged Fujio towards her and looked at him expectantly. Fujio was overloaded with a million feelings and worries, and he had been sweating profusely the entire time.
She walked up and looked at them, with a curious expression.
“H-hi... uh... I realized... you never gave me your name.... a-and... never mind. What’s your name?” Fujio was staring at the ground, twiddling his thumbs, and almost falling over.
“Oh! Uh... ha! I guess you're right, and I never figured out your name either. Well anyway, my name is Hikari. Nice to meet you Fujio!” She let go of her backpack straps and shook his hand. After letting go, she quickly glanced at her watch.
“It’s almost time for class, well, I should be going, see ya!” She frantically said as she speeded away into the school.
“We should get going too, anyways, good job bro! I’m proud of you. My little Fujio is growing up so fast!” Eiichiro said, from a greater distance than Fujio thought he was.
“Shut up... I’m not that awkward...” Fujio said as he started towards the school.
“At least I finally know her name, now I need to know why she was at my house... wait... HOW DID SHE KNOW MY NAME!?” Fujio thought about this and almost froze in the hallway.
