Chapter 48:
The Devourer of Destiny
"Oh!"
It didn't take long for Wandering King to realize something. He remembered a foreign language that didn't come from the Sky World."An ancestor, he's your ancestor, then? It's surprising you two are from the same world. I mean... the you of now," Wandering King said, patting Mahendra's shoulder.
The demon remained silent, casting a cynical look at Mahendra. He seemed hesitant to say anything."The me of now is from the old world. When I first came to this world, some people said they had met someone who used this language."
Mahendra said this using the language from the old world."She said she had learned this language from her grandfather's ancestors." Mahendra then added, "But Wandering King said you were a sinner. I don't understand at all."
"Sinner was my nickname in the past. At least when I was a complete human... in appearance." Only then did he finally speak in a calm voice. At that moment, he recounted how he had ended up here. More precisely, when he was still a human weapon named Adinata—he ascended the Upper Realm and caused chaos. As soon as he fell from there, he was already in another world. In fact, the Upper Realm is always connected to several other worlds, including the Sky World.
The demon sighed for a moment before finally revealing, "Immortal Warrior, that's me."Mahendra's eyes widened, both shocked and amazed, because it turned out that the ancestor from the old world was one of the four strongest legends in the Sky World.
Immortal Warrior was known as a human with an eternal body, the power of a demon sword, and a noble, saint-like nature. No one could kill him, not even the gods in the Upper Realm. He was called the "Sinner" because he caused chaos in the Upper Realm for 78 consecutive days.
"The four legends you mentioned are basically people with immortal bodies. So it's not just me," he said."So that's it. Oh, and there's one more thing. I think I just swallowed some blood, did I—"
Before Mahendra could finish his sentence, Immortal Warrior suddenly cast a sharp glance at Wandering King."I hate you so much. I hate him the most! Why are you here?!" Immortal Warrior shrieked, making the cave tremble.
"Gosh, why are you yapping like a cat? I came to meet your descendant," Wandering King said casually, which was, in all honesty, an indirect insult."I've never had a descendant!" he denied in an increasingly loud voice.
"Ehhh... but if I heard correctly, this kid said he met another one of your descendants? What was it again? Grandfather's ancestor... if I'm not mistaken, that's what he said?""Nonsense! All day back then I was always fighting! How could I—"
"But wasn't there? The one and only woman you loved, she... was a demon, wasn't she?""You?!"
The chains that bound him rubbed against each other, clinking, their sound filling the area with increasing noise."Just admit it. By the way, you'll be able to get out of this place soon."
"Huh?! You can't even! Then who else!?"Wandering King fell silent, still staring at the demon. Suddenly, Immortal Warrior realized something, then looked at Mahendra.
"Me?" Mahendra pointed a finger at himself, asking if they were referring to him."After all this, what do you think about the Upper Realm? And are you going to do it alone again this time?" Wandering King asked.
The Upper Realm would still hunt him down. With this God's Necklace, which was inexplicably getting stronger, Mahendra felt he wouldn't be able to fend off the gods' attacks alone.Mahendra turned back, looking at the dozens of white feathers scattered where he had been lying. The wounds on his body might have closed, but not the effects of the attack that had slightly suppressed his power.
"Instead of running, I want to resolve this problem. However, doing it alone would just lead to the same outcome as in the past."Mahendra walked closer to Immortal Warrior. A small stream of reddish-black lightning surrounded his wrist, and he used that power to destroy all the chains that restrained Immortal Warrior's movements.
"Besides, I feel that both of you want to cause chaos in the Upper Realm. I know Immortal Warrior's reason clearly, but not yours. Even so, I know what you want, including the Nephilim."In just a moment, the stream of lightning was able to incinerate all the chains. Immortal Warrior could move again, and he was quite satisfied, then smiled broadly.
"You're indeed the only one who can be relied on, Devourer Destiny. However, I need to get my sword from someone else's hands. Would you help me?""A sword?"
***
Immortal Warrior led him into a deeper cave. He brought him to where the sword thief was. There was a tall, slender man in a white t-shirt and black shorts, devouring food laid out on a table.
"Do you see what's over there?""There's only a table and food, and a man?"
"The table you see is my sword," Immortal Warrior revealed."Huh? What? What lunatic uses a sword as a table?" Mahendra retorted, feeling strange.
"You think all the strongest legends are sane? In reality, strong people are a little bit crazy," Wandering King replied."Alright, forget that. But I don't have time for this. What is this place, anyway? Why is the cave so hot?"
Immortal Warrior clicked his tongue with his arms crossed. Wandering King just smiled for a moment before finally kicking Mahendra in the back to get him into the man's territory.Without any clear warning, Mahendra was already inside. The cave was a bit wider, but a thicker, pungent smell filled the air. This place was like a home for demons.
And in the blink of an eye, the man who had been leisurely devouring food suddenly disappeared and then appeared right in front of him."Wait!" Mahendra shouted in surprise, spontaneously ducking as a kick flew toward him.
"I only want to take that sword.""Then defeat me first!"
Mahendra hurried to run, moving away from the man whose speed was difficult to follow with the naked eye."Hey, are you sure he can handle it?" Wandering King asked.
"You're the one who pushed him in, not me.""I just wanted to test how strong he is now. I didn't intend to let him die by his hands... again."
"Again?" Immortal Warrior clicked his tongue once more, giving Wandering King a sharp glance.Pretending not to hear, Wandering King immediately turned his face away while laughing for a moment.
