Chapter 49:
The Devourer of Destiny
The figure Mahendra was currently facing was no ordinary man. And this place was no ordinary place either. Mahendra himself wasn't aware that he was in the Lower Realm, the birthplace of races like demons.
However, the cave they had passed through was quite empty due to the presence of two terrifying figures. One was the Immortal Warrior, and the other was Azazel. After a long battle with the man, Mahendra slowly began to realize something. Far beyond the clearly visible existence of the Immortal Warrior, the being he was facing was much more powerful.
Though he had the regular appearance of a human, he possessed a thick, pitch-black energy that blazed like an unceasing fire. His energy might have only been half of the Wandering King's, but he was still incredibly strong."A Demon... I know this aura!"
Mahendra parried a kick for the 20th time, his gaze turning sharp, which surprised the man, who then broke into a wide grin.Sharp pupils, almost identical to his own, shone brightly. Then, relentless kicks kept pushing Mahendra, back until he was cornered.
"You... Azazel.""That's right!"
This time, his attack changed. Fire magic was unleashed like a creeping vine, spreading rapidly towards Mahendra, who quickly created a fire shield to block it."That shield isn't enough!" Azazel shouted, laughing.
After repeatedly attacking until the shield had small cracks, Azazel realized something was wrong because there was no more movement. He moved closer."Kid, how did you get there?"
Mahendra was startled after successfully lifting the massive sword, which was twice his size.He was silent for a moment, then slowly turned and said, "I teleported."
"What the...?! That's not fair! Fight me fairly! You cheater!" he yelled angrily."You once killed me in a single move. I'm not going to take that risk again. Besides, my enemy right now isn't you," Mahendra said, which instantly made Azazel speechless.
"Ugh... you... you... no... ughh!"Azazel seemed to be in disbelief at the end of their fight, but his anger vanished in an instant when the Wandering King gently patted his head.
Then the Wandering King said, "That's enough. Devourer Destiny wants to sort out some problems in the Upper Realm. He asked for Adinata's help, and since he needs that sword, he had to fight you to get it, Keno.""Don't say my real name," the Immortal Warrior said with clenched fists. He wanted to punch the blind man but couldn't.
Azazel calmed down, cold sweat dripping down his face. His head was bowed, resigned to the gentle pat from the Wandering King."Azazel, who was once my enemy, has been tamed by the Wandering King?" Mahendra thought to himself.
The situation became more conducive than before. As per the agreement that Mahendra himself hadn't even agreed to, he had brought the sword for the Immortal Warrior. The large, wide, and heavy sword was the exact same color as the cave. It was reddish-brown with an irregular crust that looked like it had been coursing with fiery magma. The object wasn't hot, in fact, it was very cold.
As soon as the Immortal Warrior gripped it, the sword changed its shape to become sleeker and longer. An iron chain appeared at the end of the hilt, binding his wrist."This sword is my body. I have been bound to it for a long time. I made this chain myself, unlike the chain that bound me before," the Immortal Warrior said.
"The previous chain... was from the gods, right? But why couldn't anyone destroy it?""I couldn't do it, and neither could anyone else. Though that chain looks ordinary, its purpose is almost the same as the necklace I gave you," the Wandering King explained.
"Then how—""Enough with the chatter. The enemy is here!"
Azazel raised his voice, and they all focused in one direction—towards the cave's exit. A familiar aura was there."What's your plan? They came even faster now." The Wandering King asked.
Mahendra sighed, somehow not surprised that they would arrive this quickly. With his eyes closed, Mahendra gathered his strength, clenching his right hand and holding it to his chest. A glimmer of light appeared, then emerged in the form of a fetus.
"Wandering King, you deliberately sent me to the Memory Pool for half of your comrade's soul," Mahendra said, handing the soul fetus to him."This is not the time to change who is in power. I didn't say I would bother the Creator God, I just want to mess with the people who consider themselves gods."
A smile was etched on his face. He left the three strongest legends by his side in stunned silence."I intend to be captured by them, so don't interfere until the time is right."
Despite his past as an enemy of Devourer Destiny, he was the one who disliked the gods in the Upper Realm the most.
"When the time comes, you'll know.""What an arrogant kid!"
"Pushing yourself isn't good, but I am very grateful to you for this half-soul. Good boy," the Wandering King said, patting his head.Mahendra brushed the hand away from him. He felt annoyed, but also felt at peace thanks to him."Should I remove the God's Necklace from you? I thought it was no longer useful," he added, asking.
Mahendra shook his head and replied, "Let me keep wearing it so I can fully control my strength.""All right."
The gods in the Upper Realm were beings who possessed power beyond human limits. They held what they believed to be absolute authority, even a king of a certain region had no worth. They had been enemies of Devourer Destiny for a long time, and they were also the enemies of the four strongest legends in the Sky World. No matter what their reasons for being hostile, Mahendra knew with just a single glance that they genuinely disliked the gods.
"At least you, who are reluctant to become gods and remain below, becoming the strongest people is enough to prove your reasons for being hostile towards the gods."The three of them smiled in unison. They also clearly knew that only Devourer Destiny was not bound by any laws, and he could truly understand the feelings of every living being in this world.
"Hurry up! I'm not getting any younger!" the Wandering King quipped."Your face hasn't changed since 30 years ago," the Immortal Warrior retorted.
Emerging from the cave, the area where two of the four legends lived was still inside this very hot cave.***
Mahendra came out and greeted his guests—the gods, of whom there were 11. They floated in the air with a very strong aura of hostility.Morpheus looked at Mahendra's torn clothes, there were still traces of blood on them. He said, "It seems your abilities haven't fully recovered yet."
"Yes, that's right. I need time to be like I was in the past," Mahendra replied with a smile.
