Chapter 5:

Meet Mayari

ALAMAT — Meet the Gods

“I value honesty above all else. So…”

You found yourself falling into a pit of lava. There’s nothing much you could do but grit your teeth, imagining the pain searing into your body, but what you met was the cold touch of water at the moment of impact. You heard a questionable laugh in your ears.

You kept falling.

Sinking…

Your body drifting into that vast ocean of light where you saw not the salty deep blue water, but the freeing streaks of cloud combing through this sky. Soon, your back bounced like it gently touched the dry ground.

You felt the tongues of swaying grass snake into your skin, and upon taking a deep breath, your eyes widened at the vast skies before you. In an attempt to move, you stretched your arms and spread your fingers, wanting to touch it…

There, you heard another chuckle.

The skies thickened, as though something unseen was slowly taking form. You laid your eyes upon the moon, and there your gaze reddened, slowly darkening until a being with long purple hair that blanketed the skies appeared. She scrutinized your body, even with her blindfolded eye…

“I am Mayari.”

“I am the Truth.”

“I am the Lie.”

“Reality and fiction are unnecessary at my behest.” She gave you fool toothed, almost sinister, grin. “I yearn for that grain of sand, that small bit of character protected by the walls of one’s lies and truth. I’ll let you borrow my power as long as you yearn for it.” She chuckled. “I will turn your dreams into reality—and by then…” She widened her grin as the moon got redder.

“I wonder what your heart looks like.”
