Chapter 4:

Regrets

The Legend Of Black Knight

Inside the worn wooden room, Satoru Seigi opened his eyes, confused put his hand to his head, the memories were coming back little by little. When he remembered what he'd done, he put his hand over his mouth, but for some reason, not everything was clear, certain memories didn't seem clear, as if they were hazy.

Afraid of himself, Satoru was not sure what was there. however, he knew he had seen that black goo before when he was still in his world, that was the last thing he saw. Looking down at his own trembling hands, he flinched, leaving it sure as hell wouldn't be something, much less did he even want to see people's faces, sure, everyone must think he was a monster.

Hidden in the bedroom, Satoru increasingly isolated himself from the world, no matter how many times he tried something he always threw him down again, this time he couldn't even predict it, it would just be easier if it killed him at once, however, the fact that he was still alive reinforced the lack of intention of the thing to do so.

But something made him even more paranoid, it was the hazy memories, as much as he felt that the memories had their importance, his brain was keen not to let him remember.

With the climate of the region always keeping cold, eventually, his body started to shake more and more, before the cover that was there, now it was gone.

Unable to sleep, Satoru had no idea how much time had passed since he woke up, thinking about his parents and what they must be doing now that he was gone, his eyes filled. Maybe if he had agreed to come back to the club, just maybe, he wouldn't have ended up in this situation. Repentance began to grind his heart, already without strength, however, no matter how many times he thought about dying, he always lacked the courage to do such a thing.

Distracted by his own thoughts, the boy didn't even notice he was being watched by a small opening in the door. Who was watching, was a girl with brown hair and eyes green, Envy, because of the large accumulation of ash falling all the time, her grandfather wouldn't let her go out for very long.

Due to her energetic personality, she can't stand still, so anything that entertains her was very good, so since seeing Satoru for the first time, she thought she would finally have someone to play with, but it turned out it was was was different than she was. he thought, most of the time he was crying, and he hardly ever spoke.

Being young, Envy, I didn't know why she also felt sad to see someone that way. But the fact that her grandfather said that she couldn't be near the boy, made her even more curious, he didn't seem to be able to hurt anyone, that's what her mind thought, however, the respect for his guardian when saying something, conflicted with her curious mind.

Stopping spying, she got up and started pacing the hallway, the wood creaking every time she stepped on it. Determined, she looked determinedly to where the bedroom was and pushed open the door, tilting her head to watch the boy's reaction.

Satoru slowly raised his head until he saw the little girl's innocent eyes looking at him. Not knowing what to do, he looked away and went back to cringing. Upset, Envy puffed out her cheeks, but still determined, she walked carefully into the room and slowly approached, until the boy raised his head again.

And there she was standing nearby, surprised Satoru took some time to react, until, Envy smiled at him, contrary to what Satoru always saw when people laughed at him, there was no contempt, which made his heart quiet. Not knowing what to say, Satoru mustered up what little courage he had left.

"D-do you need anything?", his voice was still hoarse and his throat aching, it was impossible to hide the sadness that was still waterproof.

"Hehe, no, I just wanted to talk," said Envy who sat in front of Satoru.

"Talk about what?", Satoru turned his head to the side in doubt.

"Hmmm…how about where you come from?" The food is good? There's a lot of people? What do you play? Was beautiful?"

Being bombarded with too many questions at once, Satoru couldn't help leaning his back against the wall, it was the first time he had talked to someone so fascinated maybe it was natural since she's probably lived her entire life in this place, her brain hasn't I didn't even know where to start answering so much.

"Uncle? Uncle, are you there?" Envy seeing that the person in front of youjust stopped, it made her worried.

"Who is uncle? I'm only 16 years old."

Annoyed at being called uncle, Satoru replied pointing to himself.

Envy, surprised to finally see Satoru making an expression other than sadness, began to laugh.

"Then how can I call you, uncle?"

"Eh? Well, my name is Satoru Seigi, but you can call me Satoru.", But calm now, Satoru sighed and introduced himself.

"Wow, is Uncle Satoru a noble?"

Without giving the person in front of her time to even understand the question, Envy, amazed, approached and stared at the person, while her eyes sparkled.

"N-noble! No, I sure as hell don't.", Satoru responds in a hurry, denying the girl's confusion.

"Why do you have another name then?"

"Another name? Do you say my last name?"

"I knew it, you are a nobleman!"

Not knowing what to do, Satoru only condemned himself further to Envy's misunderstanding, while looking for ways to explain himself, someone had done it before him.

"You're wrong, he's not a nobleman."

Who said that it was a woman with a deep voice, with red skin and bat wings on her back, Hilda, as she was known, made Satoru scared, it was the first time he had actually seen her.

Her unusual appearance startled him, however, seeing Envy a little girl look cheerfully in Hilda's direction, made something inside him not raise more worries than he already had.

Seeing the boy's reaction, she didn't even seem to mind, as if it was something normal for her, instead her attention turned to the little girl who was now running towards her.

"Hilda! Hilda, have you come to play?", Asked the girl innocently. Patting the girl's head, Hilda's rigid expression eased a little.

"Not today, now you have to go and see, your grandfather, do you understand?"

"Of course. See you later uncle Satoru."

Dismayed by the response she received, Envy said goodbye and ran out of the room. With the worst scenario in front of him, Satoru swallowed hard, he barely spoke to people before coming into this world, as he couldn't face them, so let alone Hilda who looks strange.

"What did you do to Beren," Hilda asked, bluntly and bluntly.

"Eh? Beren, that hunter? I didn’t do anything, I swear!" Satoru if he got up on the spot in the hope that Hilda would believe him.

"Why did you attack him?""It wasn’t me, believe me, I’ve never hurt anyone before."

Expressionlessly, the woman in front of him made no gesture or even move, which made Satoru's uncertainty jump.

"Very well, follow me."

Hilda turned and went to the door, Satoru felt a little relieved, something told him it wasn't over yet. However, as he walked distractedly, his clothing collar was caught and his body lifted off the floor hitting the wall with force.

The pain went through his whole body, mainly in his back, who was doing this to him was Hilda, holding it with her left hand, while her right hand, with sharp claws, was on his neck.

"Hey, PLEASE WAIT, I SWEAR, I SWEAR, IT WAS NOT ME!"

In despair, Satoru began to scream begging. Until his body was dropped and he fell to the ground, helpless and paralyzed with fear, he watched Hilda descending the stairs, until she stopped when she reached the floor below.

"It's no use staying in here anymore, if you don't leave the house, they'll take your strength.", After saying this, he continued walking, until Satoru heard the front door close.

Undecided on what to do, the words Hilda had just said came to his mind, he had no choice, it wasn't hard to imagine what she meant by that.

With fear and uncertainty, he followed with heavy steps and agitated breathing, Satoru suddenly found himself facing the exit door, with shaking hands he opened the door. There were the few people who still live in this place, among them, two Satoru already knew, Yurien and next to him Envy, the other four, it was the first time he saw.

A middle-aged man, who went by the name Victor, and his same-aged wife, Adelia. Victor, who had brown eyes, hid his head with a straw hat. Adelia wore long clothes and an apron, she also hid her head, with a cloth.

Of the last people, one of them was an elderly man, who had already lost half his hearing, and who was also at the limit of what he could handle. Supporting the man was his son in his thirties, he was once a village merchant, but now there was nothing left for him to look after but his father.

On Yurien's side was Hilda, all gathered there, looking in one direction, at the young man guilty of destroying the arm of the man who got the most food for them.

After a long period of discussion, the choice was unanimous, it could be cruel, but in this world where almost everything is lethal, people accept from an early age that they ended up doing things they won't be pleased with.

Satoru couldn't face people's faces, so he kept his head down. As soon as he walked out the door, they were surprised, no one expected that the cause of such a problem would be a young man who didn't even appear to be that strong.

None of them there, other than Hilda, would stand a chance against Beren one-on-one, but they all saw the state of the hunter's left arm, enough for them not to doubt it.

Everyone turned their heads to Yurien who was their current leader, he finally smiled bitterly, not for having to expel someone, however, the real reason would be the promise he will not be able to keep to his granddaughter.

"Satoru, under the circumstances, along with the majority vote, has been decided that you should leave"

Even though he knew it would end like this, Satoru refused to believe what he was hearing, struggling to keep at least his feet, he turned to Yurien.

"Do you want me to leave?"

"Young Satoru, look, we’re all scared, not to mention you practically condemned Beren to perhaps never being able to use his arm again."

"Eh? I already told her it wasn’t me, you have to believe me" Pointing to Hilda, the boy starts to beg for mercy.

"Don’t make things harder than that, go" Yurien slapped the cane on the floor and pointed with his hand. Not holding on any longer, Satoru didn't cry, his body just dropped to his knees. Not knowing what to do, he was fully aware that he wouldn't survive long alone.

The only thing that came to his mind was to kneel, bend his back, and put his head on the ground, making a dog’s attitude towards everyone.

"Please, I beg you, if the problem is hunting, I have no problem doing it, if you're afraid of me, I can live in the most isolated house you have, if you want me to do anything, I'm willing to do it. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!"
Everyone was uncomfortable with the situation, but in the end, they preferred to close their eyes to the boy's despair, everyone was in the same boat to see no more hope.

"Grandpa is he..." Envy, who tried to say something, was stopped by her grandfather's hand.

"PLEASE...please...", the limp voice grew lower and lower.

As everyone went home, Yurien took Envy who didn't want to leave Satoru.

"Why do you think you could hunt anything?"

Confused, Satoru looked up and saw that only Hilda was left standing looking at him.

"H-how?", Satoru stammered as he asked."Why do you think you could hunt anything?", the question was repeated and Satoru lowered his head, he had no guarantees, he just didn't want to be expelled and thrown to death.

"I can use a sword, so please let me try!""Tsk, if you think you can hunt just by using a sword, show how desperate you are, fine, you'll have a chance, that sword was Beren's, you'll have three days and three nights, come back with food before your time to finish."

Hilda threw a sheathed sword in front of Satoru.

"In the north, there are mountains with some animals that still live there, it's not that far from here, if you want to get something this is your best option, Victor is out hunting in a little while, I'll tell him you'll accompany him, and for last, if you try to kill him, I'll kill you."

Afraid of what he heard Satoru flinched and hugged the sword, he could hardly guarantee himself against a normal adult, let alone Hilda. Walking up behind Hilda, he suddenly spotted a guy standing there in leather armor with parts missing, and an old scabbarded sword, along with his straw hat on his head.

Of course, when Victor noticed Satoru, he was afraid, however, he stopped and listened to what Hilda had to say, even though he hesitantly accepted, it would not help to convince anyone in the village about him being able to live in it. That question decided, a man and a boy set out to hunt, having no idea of the future that awaited them.

⊛⊛⊛

A very busy day for everyone in the village, but what no one knew was that the suffering that happened inside an old hut. With night coming, lying in a bed, Beren was sweating a lot, mumbling things all the time while he slept, since the incident with Satoru, his mind was troubled, he knew that the boy from earlier had used some spell that allowed him to access his deepest memories, as well as reliving them.

In his mind, there was Beren in his first and old house, everything was as he remembered it, maybe even too realistic to be his mind alone, walking he unknowingly ended up in front of his father's room, everything around him It got dark, he didn't control his own body and opened the door. Now having to face the dead body of his father, who had died to his son.

"AAAAAAAH!" Afraid he ran away, but when he reached the door he saw that it was closed.

"U are afaid for wat Beren?"

No matter how many years passed, Beren, he would never be able to forget that voice completely messed up by alcohol, his whole body shivered, his voice then disappeared, and his body turned against his will, there he was, his father with his throat cut, trying to scream but without success, fear took hold of Beren.

"AAAAAAAAAH, NO, NO!"

Laying in his cabin, suddenly the Beren's body leaps up screaming, eyes looking like they're going to pop out of his face, the hunter starts running restlessly screaming enough for everyone in the village to hear.

Completely clumsy, Beren didn't take anything that belonged to him, Yurien who lived closest was the first and only to see the scene, from the man once serious and responsible, become a complete crybaby and crazy baby.

Then the whinny of a horse was heard along with the sounds of the animal's hooves, which bolted with Beren on top, making this the last time anyone in the village saw the hunter.
