Chapter 5:

How To Fight a Demon

The Hero Has No Interest in The Girls in His Party

After Avocado ran off Terry and the other followed behind her. “Hold on!” Blueberry yelled from the back of the group. “Do we even have plan to fight a demon? I’ve never fought a demon before your highness.” Terry wondered how she could become the captain of the guard if she had never even fought even one of the demons attacking her kingdom when Kiwi broke his thoughts. “What plan is needed, just it hit till its dead.”

“No.” Potato yelled back, holding onto Terry’s shoulder for dear life. “We need it alive to try and find the Demon Lord.”

Terry said nothing but kept his eyes on Avocado ahead of him. When the group ran past the trees into a clearing the came face to face with the demon. The demon before them looked like a mix of a large dog and a goat with black fur and large curled horns on the sides of its head. The demon glared at the group with dark purple eyes and let out a deep guttural growl. The demon was the size of a small house and towered over them. Terry felt frozen in place. He knew he was going to have to fight a demon but facing one filled him a sense of fear he had never known.

Avocado was the first to run up to the demon, her fist held high and yelling “Fight me!” He fists made contact with the demon but it did nothing to it. The demon looked down at Avocado as if she was a mere fly before it lifted its paw and swatted her away. Avocado was sent flying into the trees nearby, breaking the trees apart as her body made contact with the trunks. This caused Terry to snap from his frozen state. “Pear, get to Avocado and heal her quickly. After you heal her keep back and avoid any attacks that come your way.”

“But I want to help.”

“You can’t heal anyone if you are dead! Go!” Terry watched Pear nod and ran over to Avocado. Terry turned to Blueberry about to tell her to help fight when he noticed her terrified state. Blueberry had her sword pulled out but it was shaking in her hands and her eyes were filled with tears. She looked less like a knight and more like a child walking a dark hallway at night trying to avoid the boogeyman.

“Blueberry, go with Pear and guard her.” Blueberry looked at him, then down at her feet before she ran over to Pear who had moved Avocado out from the trees and was currently healing her.

Terry turned to look for Kiwi only to notice she had stayed near the tree line behind him. Terry couldn’t think of anything she could do to help but also knew she wouldn’t take any orders from him. “Aren’t you going to help?” he asked. Kiwi smiled and looked at her nails, “You’re the Hero. You take care of it.”

Terry wanted to yell at her when he felt hot breath behind him. Terry didn’t need to turn around to know that the demon was right behind him. He felt the air shift as a shadow cased over him. Terry held his breath, closed his eyes, and braced for impact.

“Magi Scutum.”

Terry felt magic wrap around him and opened his eyes to see a sheer pink wall around him. When the demons paw slammed down on him, it bounced back on impact. Terry was stunned, “what…” Terry felt a light tug on his hair and looked up as Potato looked down from on top his head. “Just because I’m cute and fuzzy does mean I can’t fight.” He said with a wink.

Terry felt a newfound determination fill his chest. “Alright.” He smiled, “lets do this.” Terry held out his hand and pointed at the demon with his pointer finger. He contracted magic to the tip of the finger and felt the magic gather small burst of electricity. The demon lifted its paw, ready to stick again. Terry aimed at its paw. “Magi ignis.”

A bolt of lightning shot out of Terry’s finger and shot through the demon’s paw. The demon fell to the ground howling in pain. “Excellent work hero.” Potato celebrated, he held out his small paws, “Magi vincula.” Bright pink chains came from Potato’s hands and wrapped around the demon as it laid on the ground.

The demon struggled against the chains thrashing and growling on the ground. Terry breathed out a sigh of relief while Potato cheered on top of his head. “We caught it Hero, now we can use it to find the Demon Lord.”

“Oh, so that was your plan, was it?” a masculine voice asked behind Terry.

Terry turned around and faced a man behind him. The man was much taller than Terry, with long dark purple hair and light amethyst eyes that looked down at him. Large white curled horns sat on the side of his head much like the demon Terry and Potato had just caught. Nobody had to say anything. Terry knew right away, this was the Demon Lord.
