Chapter 4:

The Revival: The Beginning

One Last Chance

He knew he couldn’t do it. Of course, he did. Who in the right mind would leave their only friends behind? Well, in his terms, at least he did have one friend. One friend who was with him more than he knew. One friend who was there with him at birth. One friend who was there with him in death. He knew that the path that he has taken will lead to nothing but danger and death. At least he’s glad about death being present so that he can finally bring death to all misery in this godforsaken world.

He kept on running through the forest with tears dripping, trying to think back to his past actions. He had to go and find the first note, which he knew for a fact was in the tree on that hill, but he couldn’t say that to his friends in fear of them not believing in him. And also, he couldn’t see Hinami cry again. So he left a note. A note that will explain everything about what he was about to do. He was certain that Sen would come looking for him, but how could he let his friends fall in trouble as well? That’s when the wall of trees that Karma had constructed comes into play. Sen was afraid of heights and climbing, so he wouldn’t bother following. He knew that this would be hard to take in, both for him and his friends, but he tried to suck it up, let it all be old memories that will be erased. Because that is what will happen, there’s no denying.

He finally broke through the forest and climbed the hill. There in the tree was the first note that she had left him. The handwriting confirmed Karma that it was from her.

There is only one thing I really need from you… this will be your last chance.
Find him. Kill him.
If you do this for me, our endless misery will finally be over.
I promise you after this that I will …

…And the rest was torn.

He turned the paper, there was more…

The pieces are torn for a reason, you will find the other two there

By there, he knew that she meant the city full of humans after the lake just a few hundred meters. He hurried on knowing that there is no time to waste. He had made a raft using the surrounding materials in under 10 seconds and went on ahead.

Karma had finally reached the shore with the very tiny bits of the raft that he had and collapsed on the beach due to the damages he had taken from the waves. But he kept going, always reminding himself of her and the current objective. The city was bigger than he thought. The building looked like large cuboids that must have been made to oppose the downforce which the humans call ‘gravity’. He knew that it was just a waste of materials and the humans were not evolved enough to understand the science of dark energy or matter, so it will be obvious that he’ll find insufficient living conditions here than what it is back home. He had entered the city and what a sight it was; slow bent metal boxes carrying people that move only up to 200 kilometers per hour, people that were almost half a meter shorter than him and wearing the most unprotective of armor and thermal light’s that tell the person operating the metal box on which rough path, made from tar, to roll on. He kept rethinking how humans are very insufficient of their surroundings. But that was soon to change.

‘Why, don’t you look handsome!’, he heard a stranger from behind.

‘Hey, he will be mine! You go find another one’, he heard another stranger from behind.

Suddenly, he felt a woman’s hand going around his arm and holding on to him tight. Karma knew that he couldn’t attract much attention for himself, but he felt an evil presence from this woman.

‘Why, might I ask, are you holding my hand?’, he asked her politely.

‘Well, I will be the one to take you to him’, replied the woman with a grinning smile.

Him? That’s the person that she was talking about. Now he knew that this woman is coming from dangerous surroundings. He waits till the next alley would come by, then he dragged her in there and held her up from her neck.

‘Why are you following me like this? Are you trying to take me down like how your friend back there in the lake tried to?’, Karma asked with force.

‘Yes, that will be me. But you forgot one thing. No one can hold me like this’, she told as she grabbed hold of Karma through her legs and spun him like an alligator. Karma had hit the ground hard, causing his head to bleed.

‘Oh, dead already? Aw, come on! I wanted to have more fun with you. I told you can’t take me on! I’m his number one soldier, no one has defeated me! And you obviously will not’, she shouted as she gives off an evil laugh.

Karma got back up no matter the wounds he had. It hurt Karma a lot, but every time he thinks about her, he always had enough determination to fight till the bitter end. While she was distracted trying to unwrap the body bag, Karma told, ‘Yeah, but you forgot to double-check.’

She was startled but was tackled with so much power by Karma and was held on the ground while being suffocated.

‘Do you have any idea who these people are? They are murderers. They tried to kill their daughter more times than there are atoms in this universe. She had to go through an unmeasurable amount of sorrow and it was all because of people like them. Now you either take me to him or I’ll have to kill you right here.’

‘Why? Why go through this much just for a girl you don’t even know about?’, she asked while choking.

‘I was thinking the same thing. But turns out, she was there the whole time. Every time I was born and every time I died. And… she had to die… all because of me… every time she died, it was because of me… no. No no no no, it was all because of people like you. The same people that hypnotized me to kill her every time.’

She felt a familiar feeling rising inside her.

‘Don’t you know? I loved her. Still, her deaths were executed by me. I can’t see her die again. I must condole for my sins. So, I ask you for the last time. Tell me where him is and I’ll leave you here, you won’t have to follow me again.’

The woman, with the last strength she had, placed her hand on his cheek and moved her head in agreement. Karma let go of her and she started to cough a lot. He helped her recover and she handed a piece of paper to Karma.

‘I used to be friends with Rena, even I was hypnotized by him to kill you. I’m so sorry Karma, I hope you can forgive me.’

‘I could do nothing more,’ Karma accepted her apology, ‘But what’s this paper?’

‘It’s the last thing she gave me when she took off. She told me to give it to the man who I have faith in. Now I have found that man, that is you Karma. You will bring an end to this. Him is in the building a few meters over in that direction.’, she explained to him, ‘Good Luck!’

Karma was appreciative and gave her a kit

‘Thank you, I appreciate it. This will help you recover from the hypnosis further. I’ll see you later.’

Karma took off running in the direction that she pointed. All the woman could think of now was just one feeling that Karma gave her… ‘You know Rena, you were right. He’s such a charming person. I’m gonna miss him. All I wish for now is that I could meet him at least once in the next world.

There is only one thing I really need from you… this will be your
last chance.
Find him. Kill him.
If you do this for me, our endless misery will finally be over.
I promise you after this that I will...

...forgive you for all the times you had caused your sin.
Remember it’s not your fault.
I will always ignore this sin you’ve done because it won’t matter
any more once you’ve finished what him had started.
I did my part. But now its time for you to do yours.
After all, there is nothing that can separate us.
