Chapter 13:
Tale Of Tails: A Girl From Earth
Meanwhile, in the Cat Kingdom, Lysar stood atop the stone terrace, bathed in reddish-golden beams of sunlight filtering through the dense canopy. The forest around him whispered in the wind, a soft symphony of leaves brushing against each other, carrying the scent of moss and wildflowers. Every shadow seemed alive, every rustle hinting at unseen threats.
"Every path I've tried… every solution attempted by others… has failed," he muttered under his breath, the words tasting bitter. "Why is it so difficult to reach Harmony? Why does everything resist the power that only the heart can wield?"
He stepped closer to the edge of the terrace, peering down at the twisting paths below. His gaze lingered on every trap, every hidden danger that had thwarted previous attempts. His fingers instinctively brushed the hilt of his sword, feeling the familiar cold steel grounding him, a tangible anchor amid the storm of doubts in his mind.
"Every threat… every obstacle… feels like it was designed to test my heart. But I cannot give up. Harmony is out there… waiting. I cannot—will not—let anything happen to her."
The stone he held in his palm, glowing faintly with an inner light, pulsed softly, sending warmth through his hand. It was more than a symbol of resolve—it was a reminder that his strength did not reside solely in his sword or agility. True power came from seeing the right path, from understanding that protecting Harmony demanded courage, patience, and wisdom above all.
"This time… this time I will find a way. Not just with force, but with my heart," he whispered. "Harmony… I swear… you will never be in danger again. I will do this… for you."
With that promise echoing in his soul, Lysar descended the narrow, winding path with a handful of loyal soldiers. The shadows of the forest seemed to stretch and twist around them, hiding traps and unseen eyes. Each step carried the weight of past failures, yet also a renewed determination—the ghosts that had haunted him for so long now only fueled his resolve.
They crouched behind the thick trunks, observing a small patrol of dog guards across a shallow ravine. Lysar’s heart remained calm, though his mind raced, analyzing every movement, every pattern. Across the ravine, a dog family—a father soldier, a mother, and their young pups—moved cautiously among the underbrush, their eyes flickering with fear and alertness.
"This is it," Lysar thought. "If I can convince them to cooperate, Harmony can be saved. I cannot risk a single life unnecessarily, but I have to be decisive."
He stepped from the shadows, letting the dappled sunlight highlight the calm, steady authority in his eyes. "Listen carefully," he said to the dog father. "Your family will be safe if you cooperate. Bring Harmony out of the Dog Kingdom walls, and no harm will come to you—or your family. But if you betray or deceive us… there will be no choice."
Inside, Lysar struggled against the part of him that recoiled at manipulating another being. I don’t want to do this… but Harmony must be free. This is the only way.
The dog father’s jaw tightened, glancing at his wife and young pups. A flicker of fear passed through his eyes, but duty and love for his family anchored him. "I understand," he said quietly. "If it’s for their safety, I will do what must be done."
Relief surged through Lysar, tempered by renewed focus. "Good… now it’s only a matter of bringing Harmony beyond these walls. Once she is safe… I will never let her go again."
The soldier moved quietly along the hidden path, heart tense with the gravity of every step. One wrong move could spell disaster—not just for himself, but for his family. Yet he pressed on, steadfast, guided by Lysar’s strategy and the unspoken trust between them.
Harmony sat in a sun-dappled meadow, her thoughts drifting to Evander. The soft wind teased her hair as she lingered among the wildflowers, her mind absorbed in her quiet routines, blissfully unaware of the plan set into motion.
"Harmony," the soldier called softly, bowing slightly. "Prince Evander has ordered me to take you to a safe place. You must come with me."
Her brow arched, a mixture of surprise and hesitation crossing her face. She had expected him to follow routine commands, yet the gravity in his voice, steady and unwavering, left no room for doubt.
"If the prince says so… I must trust him. There is no other way," she thought, rising to follow, her steps light yet careful.
The soldier’s mind raced with the dual awareness of duty and the silent prayer that Harmony remain unaware of the peril surrounding them. Every movement, every word had been measured to preserve the illusion of simple obedience.
They walked through the quiet forest, trees looming overhead, wind whispering through leaves, carrying the scent of freedom, foreign and intoxicating compared to the walls they had left behind. Harmony felt it immediately, a flutter in her chest—a sense of liberation she hadn’t realized she had been missing.
Have I been here in dreams… or is this simply freedom, calling to me at last?
The soldier clenched his jaw, every step a careful balance of composure and fear. Then, from the shadowed edge of the forest, Lysar appeared, his presence commanding yet serene.
His eyes finally landed on Harmony, and the tension that had gripped his chest for what felt like an eternity began to dissolve. A heavy stone seemed to roll away from his heart, leaving behind a fragile, yet profound sense of relief and hope.
In that instant, all past failures, every danger he had faced, and every doubt dissolved. Lysar’s heart beat only for one purpose: to bring Harmony to safety, no matter the cost.
