Chapter 4:

First quest

Lens fate in another world

I took a deep breath, adjusted the strap of the camera across my chest, and started walking toward the village. Every step felt surreal—like I was drifting through someone else's dream. But the wind on my face, the scent of wildflowers, and the weight of the Chronolens told me this was real.
As I approached, I noticed something odd—people weren’t just walking. They were floating. Well, some of them. A woman was literally sweeping her porch while levitating three feet off the ground. A kid zoomed past me riding a broom like a skateboard. Another man teleported from one side of his cabbage stall to the other just to get a better price.
“Okay, Hogwarts is jealous,” I muttered.
Then something even more unexpected happened.
“Hey, you! New face!”A teenage girl in a worn-out mage robe waved at me from a stone fence. Her cloak was tattered, her boots uneven, and her hair looked like it had argued with gravity—and lost. But her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
“You look… confused. Let me guess—summoned? Reincarnated? Divine punishment? Oh wait, don't tell me. You're from Earth, right?”
I blinked. “You know about Earth?”
“Pfft. Of course. You guys drop in every few moons. Usually with cheat powers and tragic backstories. Standard stuff.”
I blinked again. “That’s… weirdly self-aware.”
She grinned and hopped off the fence, landing with a little “fwump” of dust. “Name’s Mira. Local errand witch. Occasionally causes fires. And you are?”
“…Still processing,” I said. “But I guess I’m Smit.”
Mira narrowed her eyes, as if scanning my soul. “Hmm. That camera’s not normal. I can feel its mana from here. You got some OP skill, didn’t you?”
I sighed. “Yeah. It… freezes time when I take a picture.”
Her jaw dropped. “OH, SNAP—literally. That’s crazy! You’re like a walking pause button! That’s gonna make you enemies fast.”
“Enemies?”
“Yup. Time magic’s illegal in most kingdoms. Too dangerous. Too… unfair.” She leaned in. “Also, super cool. Wanna show me?”
I hesitated. But something about her felt… trustworthy. Like an older sibling I never had. The kind who’d get you into trouble and help you escape it.
“…Alright. But only for a second.”
I raised the Chronolens. Mira spun around and struck a ridiculous pose—one arm in the air, tongue sticking out.
Click.
The world froze again. Leaves stopped mid-fall. A merchant’s coin hung between two fingers. Mira stayed in her silly pose like a wax statue.
I walked around her, inspecting every detail. Even up close, she didn’t move a muscle.
Then the voice came again from the camera:
 “Captured. Reality stored.”

And time resumed.
Mira blinked, then whooped. “THAT WAS AWESOME! You could totally rob a bakery like that! Not that I’m saying we should, but like… we could!”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re insane.”
“And you’re a god-tier photographer with a relic camera. We’re gonna get along great.”

[New Quest Unlocked!]
Title: “Through the Lens”Objective: Investigate the village of Aeloria. Uncover the mystery of the fading memories.Reward: UnknownNote: “Only the one who sees beyond the surface may restore what time has taken.”
My smile faded. Fading memories?
Mira saw the look in my eyes. “You okay?”
I nodded slowly. “Just… wondering if this camera can do more than freeze time. Maybe… maybe it can bring back what was lost.”
She tilted her head. “Sounds like you’ve got your own story to uncover.”
And with that, our journey began—one frame at a time.
