Chapter 45:

Chapter 45: Boss Fight – The Burasu?

Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.

The party immediately got into their practiced combat formation, all but Lexa who remained alone out front of the entire party. Ilev casts a defensive buff over the party, something Lexa desperately needs as she’s struggling against the Burasu, despite her huge reserves of mana. Ami and Arano draw their newly obtained swords and begin to move in on the Burasu which hasn’t even noticed the six new combatants that have entered the fray, with the frontliners approaching their target the back line get to work with Lekly and Suieol unsettling the ground beneath the Burasu and Aromi sending a blinding light at it. Their goal is to catch the creature off guard for Ami and Arano to deliver a clean strike without any issues, just as Aromi’s spell was about to land Lexa hit the Burasu with her own offensive spell that knocked the creature out of the path Aromi’s spell was taking. However, it did cause the Burasu to lose its balance completely thanks to the undulating ground caused by the combined efforts of Lekly and Suieol, with the Burasu flat on its ass the two frontliners take the opportunity to attack. They slice at the prone creature before backing away as it rises up from the ground, but the pair soon realise that nothing they did during that flurry actually caused any damage to the first lieutenant. Now standing once again the Burasu retreats slightly and picks up an object that was driven into the ground, returning to the fray once more with its katana, that caused them to lose Suieol for a time due to the injury sustained, in hand. It once again squared up to just Lexa seemingly ignoring the remaining six members of the party, something the rest were keen to make sure it wouldn’t do again. Capitalising on the fact that it’s ignoring them all Ilev begins casting all the buffs he physically can onto the party, Lekly and Suieol transform the battlefield into a mess of terrain around the Burasu. One girl focusing of messing up the terrain around the creature the other fixing it up for the frontline duo to attack easier, Aromi once more tried to blind the Burasu but this time his spell was just ignored and didn’t hit the right location. All the while the Burasu lumbered towards a broken Lexa who began floating higher and higher, a ball of water forming a short distance in front of her. The party immediately recognise what Lexa’s attempting to do from their conversation the night before during their dinner, she was going to create another one of the spells that wiped out and flattened the majority of the Dark Lands. Not knowing how long this spell takes to set up the remaining six party members begin to panic and regroup, wanting to take down the Burasu before they too found out what happens when Lexa’s spell goes off.

“How in the hell are we gonna hurt that thing, nothing we’ve done has done anything to it. And I don’t particularly want to find out firsthand what happens if that spell Lexa is concocting goes off.”
“I second that, but it’s super resistant to physical attack meaning that its weakness is probably magic.”
“So that mean it’s up to me and me alone with Lexa wanting to delete this entire area in one fell swoop.”
“Looks like it Aromi.”
“Hang on just a minute there Ilev, me and Ami still have those magic swords. Maybe they’ll do something to it as well.”
“At this point anything is worth a shot, go for it. Lekly, Suieol get those three as close as you can. Let’s hit this thing point blank.”

Ilev casts a buff improving magical power on the trio, having to do so individually so that he doesn’t accidentally give it to Lexa as well, before the two alchemists launch the frontline duo and Aromi towards the Burasu who is completely unaware of the trio’s attack. Instead, it’s focusing on Lexa and trying to eliminate her, as to the Burasu it only sees her as a threat to it, the rest of the party are insignificant bugs. As the trio of Aromi, Arano and Ami close in on the Burasu on their wave of land constructed by the girls not currently trying to create a thermonuclear device out of super compressed water, Aromi starts preparing one of the fire spells he picked up back in Seolford but hasn’t had a chance to try out yet. The frontline duo draw swords of differing elements, Arano drawing his sword containing the elemental magic of electricity and Ami drawing her sword that contains the one of the water magic elements that being an elemental ice blade. Each member of this attack preparing their movements for when they get close enough to strike all at once, with the wave dying out Aromi unleashes his fire spell at the back of Burasu. The flames burning away at the back of the creature; however, it’s focus is still on Lexa and trying to attack her even though she is just out of its range. This distraction creates the perfect opportunity for the frontline duo to attack with a flurry of elemental slashes to the Burasu’s burning, exposed back. This combination attack causes the Burasu to roar in pain, the sudden noise startling Lexa slightly which caused her to drift within range of the Burasu’s katana and an instant later she was not longer floating in front of the Burasu, now she was embedded within the castles outer wall. The trio now having the full attention of the Burasu kept up their attacks with the help of Ilev’s buffs and a Lekly, Suieol moving away from fighting to create a protective wall around Lexa while the fight continues. Aromi’s magic burns away more of the Burasu’s tough defensive skin the pair of frontliners find it easier to land brutal attacks with their elemental swords, but soon switching to the swords forged to seal the Dark King hoping they’ll have an even greater effect. This theory soon proven right as great gashes appear all over the body of the now charred Burasu, the creature falling onto one knee, unable to stand any longer, unable to fight back. But before its defeated it launches one last wild charge attack, weaker than anything it has thrown at the party before but still dealing significant damage to the trio in close quarters and slightly less to the back line as its momentum dies out and it finally drops to the ground unmoving. As it’s body starts to disintegrate the focus of the party immediately turns to Lexa and her condition, surprising everyone in the most unsurprising way when they break down the protective wall Suieol set up they see her perfectly fine like she hadn’t been fighting at all thanks to the strong healing magic she possesses, something she shares with the rest of the party except Ilev.
“Do I not get healed Lexa?”
“No, you don’t deserve it.”
“Well I was going to say this to you anyway, so I’m not saying it to try and get healed even though that would be nice. It’s something everyone else has heard already but you haven’t. I am sorry I let Isla get taken, I genuinely thought she would be okay. I thought that there would be more danger in Seolford, even though I never considered that there were so many capable adventurers there and if they had been stopped what we could have done.”
“You’ve learnt then, fine. I accept your apology, but I can’t heal you.”
“Mana?”

Lexa just nods her head at Ilev before speaking.

“Healing my own wounds took a far larger mana toll than I expected it to. I should have enough to heal you come sunrise, but for now if you don’t want to take a break, I can heal you or fight not both.”

Even as Lexa says this, she begins to sway a little from mana deprivation. So, the party decide to set up camp, to eat and rest before continuing their assault on the Dark King’s castle.
