Chapter 46:
Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.
Sunrise the next morning arrived and Lexa healed up the remaining wounds that Ilev had from the fight with the Burasu the night before, the rest of the party made food while they were occupied with that. After eating the party packed up their camp and moved together as a group of seven for the first time in a while, they walked cautiously up to the large castle doors. Upon opening them they saw a figure sitting on the stairs at the far side of the entrance hall. Seeing they had guests the figure rose up and began slowly walking towards the party, as the figure approached its size kept on increasing until it towered high above the entire party. The top of the figures head closer to the ceiling than the floor, it stopped a few feet away form the party looking down at a sharp angle because of the close distance and the height the figure possessed. Despite the tall and incredibly imposing build the figure possessed none of the party shied away or coward back in fear, instead each member stood their ground. Witnessing this the figure opened its mouth to speak.
“You are, human party, Alyssa told about.”
Not one of the party spoke in response to the figure’s words, all too stunned that it spoke in the first place. The silence however seemed to enrage the figure.
“Human party, you answer, when speak to.”
Ilev spoke up unsure of what to say in response to the figure, but still knowing he had to say something.
“Um, yes? If you’re asking us if we’re the party that have come to negotiate with the Dark King then yes we are.”
Upon hearing this the figure swung their arm at the party attempting to flatten them, scattering to avoid the swing the party prepare for another fight. However the swing caught the party of guard leaving them out of position from what they would normally like when fighting an opponent, especially one this large. Not wanting to be held up too long by this thing Lexa launches what looks a flurry of earth magic chunks at the figure, but was actually the effect of the high-tier earth spell landslide. Unlike the Burasu the magic seemed to just be absorbed by the thing that was in front of the party.
“Human, stupid. Magic weak, Ogre hurt only by real combat.”
And so Lexa cancelled her spell and charges the ogre, moving with more speed while floating than the party had ever seen. Lexa having to almost soar to get on the same level as the Ogre does so before delivering a superman punch like move to the face of the Ogre, which sent the beast stumbling back a few paces. Taking the opportunity opened up by Lexa, the two main frontliners rushed in and began attacking at the foundation of the Ogre with their swords. Seeing this Ilev cast a buff to physical attacks along side Suieol and Lekly each manipulating the ground below the frontline duo so they could attack higher up the Ogre’s body. The Ogre however didn’t seem phased by the cuts caused by the blades of Arano and Ami but was more bothered by Lexa’s existence after being pushed backwards by a human’s punch.
“Human, pay for hitting Ogre.”
“Huh? If you’re weak enough to be pushed back by that then this’ll be over real fast.”
Lexa readies another attack as Ami and Arano start slicing away at the torso of the Ogre cutting deeper and deeper but Lexa has made the Ogre see red and only wants to fight her. The huge size of the Ogre makes its attacks slow and predictable so for someone as small and nimble as a human they are easy to avoid, and when there are many humans Ogre’s pose no threat as the ogre’s strategy when facing a group of opponents is to either intimidate them into running away or taking out the strongest person so the rest flee in fear. But with Lexa able to dodge out of the way of the attacks with relative ease and then launch small counters to keep the attention on her and not the rest of the party the fight was relatively simple as once enough wounds had been made by Ami and Arano the Ogre collapsed and disintegrated.
“For the second lieutenant he wasn’t very hard. Even I could push him back with punches.”
“Yeah, the Burasu was much more dangerous and well difficult to get rid of. He just seemed like a delay tactic not meant to be a threat just meant to slow us down or wear us out.”
“That’s two down regardless only one more to go before the Dark King. And I’m sure the last one is currently engaged with Isla as we speak.”
“I hope so Ilev. But you know the Burasu was all power and strength, this guy seemed to be more about courage or something like that. Aromi can you remember if we designed the bosses to have some trait that they encompass?”
The party turn to Aromi who was deep in thought after Lexa’s question.
“If you don’t know, don’t worry about it we made the original designs for this part of the game ages ago and haven’t really made it to truly developing this part yet.”
“No, I do remember. We decided that the lieutenants would have one person representing power courage and wisdom. I assume that manifested as strength, intimidation and…”
“Magic? You’re done with the Ogre already? I was hoping he would delay you some more, run you a bit more raged. I guess I have to face you while you are all in peak condition and have full mana reserves. Which is rather a shame I really did not want to have to work today. Anyway I think I will go wait for you in the ballroom, I hope you do not disappoint me when we get the chance to dance.”
