Rockstar Isekai

The bird tweeted happily, then spread its wings and took flight. Olive’s eyes widened.

Nothing had ever recovered from Silence, how was it possible? She was resigned that her bird would soon die, but it was fine now… It was a miracle!

She turned to Natsuo, who stopped playing the song and got up.

"Is your bird okay now?" he asked.

Olive nodded, speechless.

That was good news, the heal really worked. Natsuo was starting to like the Rockstar System.

"Did you… Did you heal it?" Olive asked with a trembling voice.

"Yeah, I’m glad it worked" Natsuo replied.

The girl’s jaw dropped. He did what? No one was capable of healing Silence, unless they were some kind of god.

"Do you realize that what you’ve done is literally a miracle?"

How could he be so nonchalant about it? The reign of Roselond was plagued by the silence epidemic for decades, no one had ever found a remedy, and yet Natsuo healed her bird like nothing.

"What do you mean?" Natsuo seemed to fall out of the blue.

The two glanced at each other, both confused.

"Do you mind explain why you’re so shocked?" asked the boy.

Olive was reluctant. She couldn’t believe Natsuo really did not know about the silence epidemic; it was a curse that affected every part of Roselond, he had to come from another world for not knowing about it. Despite her confusion, she decided to explain everything to him: he seemed truly clueless.

"I wonder how it is possible that you don’t know it, but anyways… For decades now, Roselond has been threatened by the Silence plague: a disease that kills every life form on its path, transforming entire populated areas into desert lands. When Silence completely infects an area, hideous monsters appear and attack the surroundings to spread the disease even further. When the silent monsters first showed up, people developed magic powers to defend themselves and the royal family founded the Anti-Silence Unit, where volunteer soldiers can sign up to fight against the silent monsters."

"I understand. Why is it called Silence, though?"

"Because when someone contracts the disease, the first symptom is the inability to make any sound. Also, the infected areas are characterized by a deathly silence." Olive paused. "Despite the efforts, no one ever found a remedy for Silence, so when someone contracts it, it’s over for them. But you just…" She shuddered.

So that was why she was so shocked. Basically, Natsuo just healed what they thought was an irremediable disease: it did sound like a miracle.

Natsuo grinned satisfied. His Rockstar System was not bad at all. He could take advantage of this healing function to make a name for himself.

Olive glanced at him excitedly.

"I’m sorry for the strange request, but… Can you teach me how to sing? I would like to become a doctor in the Anti-Silence Unit to find a remedy to Silence, but my parents won’t let me do it. But I’m sure that with you, I will finally be able to achieve my dream!"

"Sure, we can form a band" Natsuo replied.

Since his music was so special in this world, he decided to make the best of it. If he founded a band with Olive, they would both gain something.

Olive bent her head slightly to one side. "A band?"

"Yeah, it’s a group of people who make music together. What do you think?"

She nodded excitedly. "I’m in!"

Natsuo grinned satisfied: it was easier than expected. Suddenly, he heard a notification sound and a banner appeared in front of his eyes.

Natsuo clicked on the YES button and the window changed.

He chose again the YES option.

Please, give a name to your band.

He thought about it, then typed something on the keyboard that appeared in the air.

The name you chose has been registered.

"What are you doing?" asked Olive.

"I registered our band in my system, now we’re officially one. This is the beginning of Rockstar Isekai’s rise to fame." Natsuo replied with determination.

"What does Rockstar mean?"

Natsuo smirked. "A rockstar is a famous and successful performer of rock music, someone very cool that inspires people and is adored by everyone." He ran a hand through his hair. "And, soon, I’ll show to the world what being a real rockstar means."

Olive’s heart started beating faster. Natsuo was very cool! She wanted to become like him, one day.

"Right, let’s show them!" She smiled.

After the time spent in Wisteria Town, Natsuo was getting used to the new world. He taught Olive how to sing and they practiced a lot together. He became famous in the area because he could heal people from Silence and everyone went to see him perform on the streets.

Apart from that, Natsuo also learnt a few things about magic. He discovered that, at the age of fifteen, every person in Roselond developed their own magic system based on their life experience. Magic was bound to imagination: the more you could imagine, the more you could do with your system; the important thing was to constantly practice with magic, otherwise you would never be able to do complex stuff and your imagination would be wasted.

For example, Natsuo developed the Rockstar System because he started playing the guitar at a young age and never stopped. On the other hand, Olive developed the Alchemy System because she liked to experiment with natural substances and it was fitted to her role as an innkeeper.

"This time we made a nice nest egg" commented Natsuo, shaking a bag full of money.

"Right, more and more people come to see us perform everytime!" replied Olive.

They were coming back home after one of their street performances when, suddenly, they heard someone screaming.

"Help! Help! Silent monsters are here!"
