Chapter 3:
Parakozumu: Transported To Another World In Onesies!
Sora took her time explaining her hypothesis, rushing would only lead to confusion, and her audience is less than focused. Turning sharply, she continued. Her pointer facing her largest sibling.
‘’ Hanzo.’’ Sora continued. ‘’When Ren and Enji were bickering, you were not only able to hold them back, despite the increase in physical ability they both doubtlessly possessed, but when you screamed, the resulting shockwave was able to push them away.’’
Hanzo looked down, slightly ashamed at his earlier outburst.
‘’I am also assuming the scream that lured us all here was yours. Likely as a response to your awakening in this new world of ours.’’
‘’Hold up.’’ Hanzo interrupted. ‘’New world? What makes you think that we are in another world?’’
Sora pushed her glasses back. Clearly annoyed at the interruption.
‘’If you have ever read an Isekai series, you would know that this is almost certainly the order that things go. Awakening in a new world with a strange appearance and new abilities is standard. Best not to question it too much.’’
Hanzo looked like he wanted to object further, but a quick look from Ren silenced him. They would discuss this later. Right now, they needed to hear what Sora had to say about their potential new abilities.
‘’Since you seem to be wearing a onesie resembling a Siberian tiger, it would explain how you were able to hold Ren and Enji back, since they are the largest species of tigers and are considered by many to be the strongest kind of cat in the animal kingdom. They also possess a roar that contains infrasound. capable of paralyzing human beings. Though yours seems to be more repulsion based than paralysis.’’
Hanzo looked at the floor, seemingly worried. Enji, seeing his brothers face, put one of his hands on Hanzo’s shoulder. Forcing him to look his way, Enji smiled.
‘’Come one!’’ Enji beamed. ‘’ We're all okay, and you have an awesome power. I am actually jealous that you got to try your new powers before I did. We're gonna learn our new powers too and we’ll practice so that the next guys getting knocked back will be guys who deserve it.’’
Hanzo smiled. Thankful for the words of encouragement. They both looked back at Sora, who was talking to Ren.
‘’…the Myths point to Unicorns possessing powers over purifying, light, and healing, but until one of us is injured, cursed, or poisoned, we cannot be certain.’’
‘’I can always deck Enji again.’’ Ren offered.
‘’Try it rainbow!’’ Enji retorted.
Sora sighed. ‘’As for myself, it would seem that I am wearing something that resembles a softshell turtle, regarded as the fastest turtle on land at a stable fifteen miles per hour. Which explains why my speed is not impaired. As for what potential abilities this grants, I hypothesize it would center on the shell. Which means….’’
The three brothers looked at Sora, waiting for her to finish her thought. But before they could ask, Sora set her pointer aside and stood completely straight.
‘’Here goes nothing.’’ She said, though it was unclear whether it was directed at them or herself.
Pop
In an instant, her head was gone. Completely tucked inside what would be her neckline for the onesie. All three of them jumped back instantly, screaming in terror over what they had just witnessed. They all stood back up, trying to close the distance. But, before they could step forward, they heard something.
‘’Interesting.’’
The voice stopped them in place. It was muffled, but unmistakable.
''My hypothesis seems to be accurate. I can withraw into what my suit would consider the shell portion.''
Then without warning, Soras arms were raised, and they too vanished into what would be her sleeves. Her legs soon followed, all of them slid into the mid-section of the onesie. A large, thin, plush shell had fallen onto the floor. The three brothers slowly inched closer to it, hesitant, almost like it would explode if approached. The shell twitched, sending them jumping back once again. Sora’s head popped out again, and her eyes shone in excitement.
‘’Truly incredible.’’ Sora exclaimed. ‘’ It appears that I can retract into my own personal fortress of protection. But there is only one way to truly test the strength of my defenses.''
Her eyes lifted up, expression completely serious.
''Strike my shell!’’
‘’No way!’’ Hanzo protested.
Sora looked disappointed but didn’t push the matter. Enji stepped forward to get a closer look and tried to pick up the shell, but he was dragged down to the floor.
‘’What the..’’ Enji protested.
Steadying himself, he tried again, lifting with both hands, he pulled upward, but the shell remained planted to the ground. Enji groaned trying to pry it from the floor, but the shell would not move. Enji exhaled in defeat, standing up and gazing at Sora.
‘’What gives? How are you so heavy?’’
Sora glared at him.
‘’I mean, how is that shell so heavy.’’ Enji weakly chuckled.
Shaking her head, Sora turned her head as best she could, trying to look at her shell. Her mind was littered with questions.
‘’Despite his crass way of putting it, Enji is correct. I shouldn’t be this rooted to the ground, even factoring the assumed weight of a turtles shell for one the size of a human, something with enhanced strength should have no issue moving it. Even without the physical enhancements, Enji should have been able to lift me off the ground, if just a little.’’
''Maybe he's just weak.'' Ren offered
''I'll show you whose the weak one around here pony!''
Sora ignored them. Her eyes squinting, trying to formulate a hypothesis. Racking her brain in both science and fictional literature. Though both sources offered nothing, she decided to think of the moment prior. She did not wish to be lifted and marveled like a novelty plush doll, so she wanted to remain grounded.
''Could it be that my will to remain grounded somehow triggered an innate ability within my suit? If a dragon and unicorn could exist in this new reality, then it is possible…’’ Sora thought.
She closed her eyes and concentrated. Enji and Hanzo looked at each other, wondering what exactly was happening, they decided to get a closer look, and were met with Soras gazing evenly with their siblings height. The brothers screamed in shock, falling back and looking up as the soft turtle shell began flying through the air like a toy plane. Their sisters face beaming as she flew.
‘’How are you doing this? Ren asked, slightly surprised. ‘’Last time I checked, turtles can’t fly.’’
Sora flew around a few more times, carefully dodging trees and weaving her way around limbs, almost like she was practicing. Until she finally stopped, slowly descending like a helicopter, and popping her limbs back out, though she was slightly higher than expected, stumbling a bit when she landed.
‘’It would seem that my initial hypothesis was only the beginning.’’ Sora began, pushing her glasses back in excitement. ‘’In addition to the abilities granted by what we could expect from our animal themes, we have the potential to do much more than we could expect.’’
‘’So, what are you saying?’’ Ren asked.
‘’I am saying that our potential abilities in this new world we were transported into have limits that seemed linked to what we can imagine in the moment of interest. In other words…’’
‘’There’s no telling what we could do now.’’ Hanzo finished, looking at his hands.
Silence settled in the forest; the siblings stood in wonder over what this could mean for each other and what exactly existed in this world that they had this power.
‘’Hey!’’ Enji broke the silence, causing them all to jump. ‘’How come you were the first one to fly instead of me! I’m the one with the wings! Teach me how you did that!’’
Enji continued complaining, but the others just chuckled, grateful for their brothers consistency. Even with the potential of their newfound powers, they could rely on each other to make sure they were ready for whatever this world had to throw at them.
