Chapter 2:
The Random NPC shouldn't get involved, right?
I simply followed where everyone was going and I made it to the academy.
Legend Slayer Academy.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would see this through not a screen, but through my eyes in reality. I couldn't believe how massive the building in front of me was. Everything was beginning to feel more real the more I saw. I could barely contain the excitement inside of me as I walked through the front gates of LSA.
Since today was the first day of school, I headed to the auditorium where they were holding the entrance ceremony.
Just like in the game, the auditorium was massive. It could probably fit at least a thousand people in here.
Although there were many seats open, we were led to the general area for the new students to sit in. I chose a random spot a few seats away from some students and sat down, waiting for the ceremony to start.
I took a look around to see if I could spot any of the named characters, but unfortunately I couldn't find them in this crowd, especially while seated.
After a few minutes, my attention then turned center stage. It seems the ceremony was starting.
As the lights dimmed, the stage was set for the dean to come out from backstage. This was one of the things I was looking forward to. The first named character I'll see. Freya Dualmer.
"Welcome, students," her voice was projected throughout the auditorium using a magic tool. "Legend Slayer Academy, as the name suggests, is a school where heroes are fostered to slay legends. I'm sure most of you may already know, but this school was founded by the Great Hero Mina. She not only has slain the dragons from legends but also sealed the Evil Dragon God. I don't know if you'll ever reach that high of a status, but I hope all of you will strive to become the best hero you can be. Now, enough from me. I'll let the representative from your year give their speech. Thank you, everyone!"
As soon as the dean left, a girl with hair as white as snow came on stage. If it's a represenative, it should be a named character, right? I don't remember any named characters being the first year representative, though.
I took a look at the person finally standing in front of the magic tool. I don't recognize her. She's the strongest student of our year, and I don't recognize her.
"Hello, my fellow classmates. I only have one thing to say. I don't intend to give away my number one spot, so if you wish to take it, you may challenge me anytime. That's all. Have a good day," with that said, she started walking off stage into the back.
That was quite the bold remark from her. Everyone in the room was silenced from the sheer confidence of her short speech, only after she fully disappeared from the stage did people start mumbling about what they just heard.
Wait, I remember now! I always skipped the dialogue here after my first playthrough so I don't really remember anything about her. But if I recall correctly, her name is Erica and she comes from the Lunahaven family, the same as the Great Hero Mina. Most importantly of all, she also holds the same trait as the Great Hero Mina, [Archmage].
Having come from the same family and holding the exact same trait, I can see why she was so confident just now. She's even considered to be the reincarnation of the Great Hero, after all.
Unfortunately for her, though, she'll never live up to her full potential.
After Erica's speech, the student council president came and gave their speech. Wendy Aosten. A fan favorite in the game.
It truly feels so surreal seeing all these characters in real life. I really should get used to it.
With the student council president's speech coming to a close, the entrance ceremony was over. It was finally time for class.
I was assigned to the top class available as a first year. Class One. Of course, this is solely because of my trait and not because of what I was truly capable of. If that were the case, I'd be in Class Four, the lowest class right now.
The school system is merit based, but it starts off with ones potential value, which is why I'm ranked so high compared to others. Once the semester starts, those who are weak will be weeded out.
I arrived at the doors of Class One.
Everyone stared at me as I walked into class. They were assessing if I was a threat to them or not. Class One was filled with monsters, most of them deserving to be here. I, for one, am not supposed to be here.
Hale most likely dropped down in classes after the semester started. Even with a good trait, his stats are terrible and he probably couldn't keep up. Unfortunately, in this world, even if you have a powerful trait, if you don't have the stats or resources to back it up, it'll mean nothing.
Most people were sitting apart, with only a few people sitting together. They must know each other, is my guess.
I decided to sit by myself. As much as I wanted to sit next to the named characters, it would've been awkward.
After a few more people showed up, the teacher finally arrived.
"Hello, class. Welcome to Legend Slayer Academy. As the teacher for Class One, I applaud you guys for making it here. That means you at the very least have potential to be great. Whether you guys will actually bring out that potential is a different story, though. Also, you can just address me as teacher Conrad."
I look around the class and I see everyone looking at the teacher. It was obvious what they were doing. They were analyzing the teacher, seeing if he was worthy of teaching them.
"Now, class. I'd appreciate it if you guys didn't look at me like that."
Suddenly, I felt like my entire body was being pressed down. I couldn't help but lean forward on the table. I look around to see if the same thing was happening with the others. Every one looked quite uncomfortable as they seemed to be resisting this invisible force, one that I couldn't.
"As expected of the one said to be the reincarnation of the Great Hero. You're barely breaking a sweat."
Barely breaking a sweat? I'm over here dying just trying my best not to pass out.
Finally, the pressure stopped. The amount of relief my body felt when that happened was immeasurable.
"Well done, you guys. A lot of you can already somewhat resist my mana output. Although, some of you seem to have fared quite well. Some not so much, and some not at all. Either way, I look forward to teaching you guys. Let's get along."
That's quite the intro there, teacher.
"Now, let's not waste any time. For today's class, you will be taking a little test for me. Any questions?"
None.
"Alright, let's get to it then."
Instantly, the entire class was in a field. All the seats and tables including the stairs from the lecture hall was now in the field as well.
What happened?
"So this is [Shift]," said a student in front of me.
It seems like it was the teachers ability. I've never heard or seen that ability before in the game.
If the entire lecture hall is here, what happens back at the academy? Is everything just missing?
"Alright, class. Welcome to the monster field. This is where we'll be having our test. I'll have you guys get into groups of two. The pairing is based on the class list rankings to make it more fair. Erica, you'll be getting paired up with Hale."
Me?
I'm getting paired up with the top student of Class One?
