Chapter 34 : So I witnessed A Miracle

Vaelya says, "Are you listening to me?" I say, "Yes. I am just processing." 

- "This world is about to end. What is there to process?"

- "Like, how is it going to end?"

- "I don't know."

- "What do you mean by 'you don't know'? Then why are you so sure that the world is about to end?"

- "By looking at the sky."

- "The Sky!"

I sigh and say, "So when you looked up, you saw a written message in the sky? Like, the world is about to end." Vaelya grabs my face and turns my head to the window.

Ah! The sky is dark yellow.

I say, "What the hell happened in one night?" Vaelya says, "We haven't received any information about that. The sky has been yellow-colored since the early morning." I can't think of anything. Vaelya says, "Hell! Yes! I read about this in Velzaroth. When the Angel of Death comes to the earth, the sky will be dark yellow. His name is...I forgot his name." 

Suddenly Eriei enters my room running, saying, "My lord, my lord!" I startle and ask, "What happened, Eriei?" Eriei says, "Your spy from the Therian Kingdom just sent a message, my lord."

- "Is it about the yellow sky?"

- "Yes, my lord. The news itself is terrifying, my lord. The world is about to end." 

- "Please tell me the message in detail."

Eriei tells us what happened last night. And that isn't easy to accept. 

Last night, after we left the Sanctus Dominion fortress, the priest of the Sanctus Dominion performed a ritual. I didn't kill any priest; that's another mistake of mine. The Sanctus Dominion's high priests always want to dominate the world. They thought the best way to rule the world was by fear. So they wanted to summon the angel of death, the most terrifying supernatural being. They wanted to keep the angel of death under their control so that people from all over the world would fear the Sanctus Dominion. But to do that, they need blood from nine types of races. Which are human, elf, demon, dragon, dwarf, mermaid, foxkin, wolfkin, and orc. The condition is that the blood must be from alive persons. Blood from dead bodies won't work. They already collected eight types of blood. And when they found out Eriei is a demon, they took some blood from her. And after we left, they performed the ritual. And successfully summoned the angel of death. The irony is the Angel of Death is a gigantic being. When he came out of the summoning circle, he destroyed the Sanctus Dominion. This caused the deaths of all priests and the Holy Knights. The Angel of Death then started walking forward. Everything on his path gets destroyed without any trace. 

After hearing all that, I let out a sigh. Can I get some time to rest? Vaelya says, "I remember now. His name is Seraphmortis. If the Sanctus Dominion thought that they could control him, they were just daydreaming. Seraphmortis can't be controlled. It is invincible. He will only return after he destroys the whole world."

I stand up and say, "Let's go, Vaelya. We have to stop him." Vaelya and Eriei say in unison, "How?" I reply, "Let me think about that after I meet him. Eriei, do you know where he is now?" Eriei says, "I think he is already in the Elora Kingdom." I say, "Vaelya, open the portal." We have to go now." Vaelya says, "But...." I say, "People are dying, Vaelya. Let me protect as long as I can." Vaelya opens the portal. Eriei says, "Let me come with you, my lord. I need to inform his highness." I say, "Yes. Let's go." We enter the portal. 

Eriei stays in the demon realm. Vaelya and I use the Demon Realm's portal to arrive at the Elora Kingdom. 

When we arrive at the Elora Kingdom, we hear people screaming. I turn to my left. I can't believe what I am seeing. A Titanic-sized skeleton with two wings made of only bones, two golden eyes, and a black halo above its head. So this is Seraphmortis. He moves slowly but destroys everything on his path. 

Vaelya says with a terrified voice, "What can we do, Agni? No one can stop the destruction of the world." I say, "We can't stand here and watch that happening. We have to do something. We will do something." 

I push the ground with my toes and get close to his right leg. I use all of my strength to strike a punch on his right leg. 

My right hand's wrist breaks instantly. I scream at the pain. There is not even a scratch where I hit. Vaelya comes to me. She looks at my hand and says, "Agni, let's return to the demon realm. We will be safe there. You've done enough for these people. Now take care of yourself. You don't need to go through this." I wipe my tears. I say with a smile, "Being a hero isn't a job. It is a responsibility. It'll never be enough. You can quit a job. But you can't quit being a hero. A hero lives as a hero and dies as a hero. There's no other way."

Wait! Seraphmortis hasn't moved since I punched one of his legs. I look up. He is looking down. Or I can say that he is looking at me. But can he really see me from that high?

Suddenly, the wings of Seraphmortis become wide. And from the joints of the wings, five mini-sized skeletons come out. They fall down on the ground and start marching forward like a disciplined army. Those skeletons are almost 7 feet tall. 

They start coming towards us. Vaelya pulls her sword out from the scabbard and says, "Let me fight them." I say, "You can't fight that many at once. Let me..." Vaelya says, "No, I got this." 

Suddenly the first skeleton gets hit by a flying sword. It gets scattered. Vaelya and I look at our right side. Nirva comes running and picks up the sword and kills every mini skeleton.

Nirva comes to us. I say, "Are you alive, Nirva?" Nirva says, "Yes. Last night, I found out that my body can heal on its own. And when the angel of death came out of the spell. I escaped from the fortress. I was on the other side, observing the angel of death for any weakness. Then I saw it stopped and looked down at its right leg. I got curious and came running. Then I meet you two. By the way, why are you here?" 

I say, "Because, if we don't stop it, there won't be anyone left." Nirva says, "And how do you stop it? And sorry, I researched about the Sanctus Dominion. They were the actual evil." I say, "Don't apologize to me. After we finish this, you will apologize to the people who admired you." Nirva nods her head and says, "Yes."

We look up, hearing a sound. Hundreds of the mini skeletons come out of the wings of Seraphmortis and get down here. Nirva says, "That's a lot. Any plans?" I say, "No plan so far. Let's keep fighting for now."

To our surprise, the skeletons don't come to us. They run in random directions. Nirva says, "What are they doing now?" Vaelya says, "I think they are searching for people to kill." I say, "We have to protect them. Hurry." Nirva says, "But the skeletons are fast; how can we..."

We hear strange sounds. We look at our left side. A demon army led by Varthion is coming from a portal. Vaelya says with a surprised voice, "Brother!" Nirva says, "What! Who are they?" I say with a smile, "They are demons, Nirva." Nirva says, "So they decided to take revenge on humans for years of their sufferings?" I say with a smile, "No, Nirva. Wait and see." 

The demon army starts attacking the mini skeletons. Nirva says with a surprised voice, "But why? After everything they've been through!" Vaelya says, "Yes. They could have stayed in the demon realm, where Seraphmortis can't reach. But instead, they are here to fight the Seraphmortis and protect humans. Because their hero once said that demons, human elves, and all people of every race are all children of God. We are siblings of humans, elves, and every other race. So we have to protect each other." 

Nirva remains silent for a while. Then says, "Who is this Hero?" Vaelya says with a smile, "This man, Agni, is the hero of the Demon Realm." Nirva looks at me. I say, "Enough talking. Let's join the fight." We start fighting the mini skeletons.

But the problem is the skeletons keep spawning from the wings of Seraphmortis. We are being outnumbered. To my surprise, Elyar joins the fight with the army of Alnovir. Then Orinar joins the fight with the army of Elves. After that Lesious joins the fight with the army of Hamarland. One by one every army of every race comes together to fight the minions of Seraphmortis. 

This is certainly a miracle. People from all races are here to defend their world and protect those who can't fight. My heart is pleased to witness this miracle.

The strength and speed of the minions are increasing. We are now at breaking point. I have to do something about Seraphmortis soon. We won't be able to keep this any longer. 

Suddenly I notice a skeleton is coming to attack Vaelya from behind her. I call out Vaelya as loud as I can. But she is busy with fighting another skeleton. I kill the skeleton in front of me. Then I push the ground with my toes with all the strength I have and get close to the skeleton. 

Before I can strike a punch on its head, the skeleton quickly turns at me and penetrates my belly with its left hand. 

The pain! The pain! 

I punch the head of the skeleton. But my punch is too weak to do anything. Vaelya cut its head off. She pulls away the skeleton's hand from my belly as I scream. 

I can feel that I am crying and shivering with pain. 

It hurts! It hurts a lot! 

My body is getting numb. Yes, Vaelya is saying something while holding me. Sorry, Vaelya, I can't hear you. I can't feel you. My vision is getting blurred. 

Oh! I remember the first time I met Vaelya, the most beautiful woman. Our first duel, the night in the hallway when Vaelya and I were hiding, the night on the balcony of Alnovir, the night at the riverbank...

Her beautiful smell! Her beautiful smile!

Vaelya Can you please show me your beautiful smile one last time? Though I can see only darkness now, I really want to see your smile, Vaelya. For once.
