Chapter 5:
Swim!
"Finn!" Everyone heard the loud female voice again.
"Aghh, what if she sees the boat?! I made sure to hide it before returning here, but still... And oh no, forget the boat. Quick, Camellia, do you have more of that magic tea?" Finn was panicking.
"Ahh, why does everyone keep saying it wrong? The tea itself is not magical, although it has a nice aroma, but no, it's my spell."
Camellia corrected him.
"Yes, sorry, but please, you have to do that spell again on Marina."
"Huh, why?" Marina was confused.
"I already speak that A-Alisian now; isn't that enough?"
And what's the deal with his mom?
"Yes, but my mom sometimes mixes Alisian and Pragmenian when she talks, especially if other humans are around, and she will mistake you for a Pragmenian. She will become suspicious if you can't understand her, and then we're done. Once my mom gets suspicious about something, she won't leave us alone, and she'll start asking questions like it's a crime investigation!" Finn was stressed.
"And then we can forget about finding the mermaids or ever leaving the house."
"Although the last part sounded slightly exaggerated, Finn is right." Camellia said.
"Camellia, don't be cold; help."
"Ahh! And who is always helping you out, hmmm? I never said I wasn't going to." Fairy said as she was pouring the tea.
"But it will be more complicated than the last time, so I might need a minute and your help too." She added.
"We don't have much time; she will be here any second!" Finn was nervously checking through the window.
"Alright, but don't blame me for side effects."
"What side effects?" Now Marina was worried.
"I'm sure we're going to be fine; that's Camellia. She is very skilled with spells. If my mom finds out you are from a different world and hears about your plan, she definitely won't let go!" As soon as the Finn said that, someone knocked.
"Finn, Camellia, are you there?" A voice was heard on the other side of the door.
"Or we can just pretend we're not home." Finn mumbled.
"Coming!" Camellia responded.
"Camellia," the boy hissed.
"Here you go." Fairy gave Marina the teacup.
Here goes nothing, I guess.
Marina thought before she sipped.
"You too, Finn." Camellia added.
"Oh, okay." He said.
Ahh, time to do a variation of the spell I never did before in less than a minute. I could have just shared my own knowledge of human language with Marina, like I did before. That would be easier too, but Finn is a native speaker; therefore, it would be better to transfer his Pragmenian knowledge to Marina.
In order for the spell to work, I have to focus on Pragmenian and search for it in Finn's mind, and only then, after locating the language knowledge, can I share it from Finn to Marina. This takes a lot of focus and precision, so I'd appreciate more time, but ohh, the wishful thinking.
In the next moment, the fairy's eyes glowed as she cast the spell.
"Ouch!" Both Finn and Marina reacted at the same time.
"Ugh, it feels like I had a brain freeze." Marina was touching her forehead.
"Same." Finn added.
Knocking on the door was heard again.
"Coming," Camellia said as she got up from her chair.
She quickly flew through the hallway and opened the door.
"Finally! I started to get worried, thinking you kids weren't home, until I heard you. Why did it take so long?" In front of Camellia was a tall woman in her late thirties with middle-length wavy blonde hair and light faded blue eyes just like Finn. She was wearing rather casual clothes but was still in style with sunglasses on top of her head. From Mother's appearance, one could guess that she was a business woman on her day off. Although her eyes resembled the cheerful boy's, the look in her eyes, not so much.
"I'm sorry, Miss Cherry. I have a guest today, so I was lost in the conversation. So sorry you had to wait."
"Oh, a guest, how nice. A friend of yours?"
"Yes."
"That's all great, but where is Finn? I called him so many times for a reason. My hands still hurt from carrying all these bags. Aghh, where is that boy? Finn!" The mother yelled.
"I'll help you carry a few." Camellia said.
"No need, dear, Finn will." The woman replied.
As soon as the boy heard his mother calling him, Finn rushed through the house.
"Ohh-hoo, look who's finally here." Mother spoke with a strict tone in her voice.
"Sorry, Mom."
"Don't say sorry; be the man and carry these market bags!" The mother said in a demanding voice. Finn took all of the bags right away. The three of them went into the living room. Marina looked outside of the bedroom to see what's going on.
"Oh Marina, come." Camellia returned for her. As they were walking towards the living room, the girls heard Finn and his mother talking.
"Mom, you really didn't need to buy so much." Finn commented after he put the bags down.
"Nonsense, you kids must be hungry; you need to eat real quality meals. Besides, half of these are for Camellia anyways, so what are you complaining about?"
"Oh, for me? You really didn't have to." Camellia replied in a polite tone.
"Finn always stays in your house. I have to do something for you, and I know you'll love these souvenirs I got from my travels. There are even some for you, Finn." Mother added.
"Hello." Marina finally entered the living room.
"Hi, don't be shy just because I'm here. I'm Cherry, Finn's mom. Nice to meet you." The woman reached her hand towards Marina.
"Marina, nice to meet you too." They shook hands.
Ahh, I guess even in another world, moms will be moms.
Marina thought in her head.
And Finn was right; she really spoke to me in Pragmenian.
"So dear, where are you from?" The mother asked Marina.
Oh no, what do I say now?!
Marina was panicking.
