Chapter 3:
Keep Yourself Alive!
"So, why do you like snake?" As the interviewer asked Nakagawa with a one of her paper with all the questions written, glancing at one of the symbols Nakagawa's wearing.
"Well, I've always had a curiosity about the snake's philosophy in the Bible. The character... seems interesting."
Surprised by the statement, she quickly asked Nakagawa a counter question.
"But why? Isn't snake the most evil creature in the bible verse? The snake did bring the doom of humanity and led to humans to commit sins. It doesn't seem right to me..."
Nakagawa could see the interviewer was distressed. He inhaled deeply from his (Almost 30+) cigarette, then exhaled the smoke with a smile. Tapping the cigarette in the ashtray, he leaned forward toward the mic in front of him.
"How should I put this? Should the snake really be blamed for the tragedy? Isn't the snake a God's creature? I don't recall anything in the Bible verse that says he is evil. Isn't he just one of the pawns of the devil, forced and framed by his master to tempting humans to the apple? Didn't humanity choose to eat the apple itself, despite God's warning? The snake didn't actually know any better. Heck, even the World Health Organization uses the Rod of Asclepius — a snake circling a rod, as the symbol of the Greek healer god. Humanity never really thought about it, but without the snake's appearance, we wouldn't have knowledge. If the snake didn't give the apple to Eve, humans wouldn't have learned to think for themselves for the better. So, in actuality, I see the snake as the misrepresented one in the public eye. That's all."
But the interviewer didn't bug her opinion.
"Yes, and Genesis 3:14. Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals. You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. doesn't that ring any bell, sir?"
Nakagawa went quiet all of a sudden. His humorous, confident face at the start stopped, and he began to grow infuriated at the rhetorical question. But seeing the camera, and thinking about her statement, he composed himself, sighed in defeat, and gave one more answer.
"I do, and I regret not doing it sooner."
And we comeback to the past.....
As I walk to the road with the new companion, on our way, almost nearing to the destination
"Well, we're getting closed. Before going any further. Are you familiar with the heroes on those town, Nakagawa?"
Hmm, "No, I'm afraid. What, are they big deal?" Smuggling as I trying to make the question not to big of a deal.
"Well yes Nakagawa. Those heroes comes from many places in this world. Some, comes from a humble begging to make a name for themselves, and others are trying to run away from their previous life and start a new."
Me, still undermine the whole explanation.
"Yeah, so? Why are you explaining this to me? Isn't that common knowledge? I don't care where they're from. As long as they're nice, I'm cool."
Alex, seemingly annoyed but doesn't want to get in any further.
"I know. But just wanted to tell you, that's all. You'll probably meet some of them wit that kind of attitudes."
Oh great. I sound like a dick. Oh well, the moment has passed.
As the road going to the left, the thick trees is still blocking the way for me to see the town destination. I decided to walk quite fast a little further to see the view of the town...
I finally saw it.
I just realized that we are actually on a top of a hill. I can see all of the landscape. The town is near a river, the water goes along the side of it and straight narrow as well. In the middle there is a round place, like a plaza, oh and a fountain is there. The road starts from that plaza and goes out to the rest of the town. The houses and some shops are just around it, not too far. Some bigger buildings are also there but I don't really know what they are, maybe important ones. Man... look at those building, reminds me a lot of those medieval building that you see on Assassin's unitary. (He he)
Outside the town there are field of farms, and behind that there are trees and the rest of the hills. It looks like an ordinary town quite compact but neat, not messy, and nature is all around it.
"Man, the town looks great...."
Alex's behind me and put his hand on my shoulder.
"Yup, and here is the place where we can get to the bottom about dire situation, but I'd suggest that you find a place to rest first. God knows what you've gone through."
Then he goes to his pocket then gives me the bag of coins to me.
"Oh right, here. Sorry for confiscate your last remaining stuff earlier. It's been a long day this weekend."
Me, being the curious George myself.
"What's up? Is there been anything bad happening lately?"
With a saddened face, Alex frowned.
"Yes, the demon nation has been actively terrorist operations for the couple of months, and they have been active in this region of the kingdom, unfortunately. That's why there's been many tasks for us heroes to do."
Wait really? That sounds troubling news..
.....
......
........
"Oh well, say let's go to the town, shall we? I am starving!"
And so, with the displeasing of the Alex's party and himself, we go to the town together (While going down on the hill, ofc)
"Say, Nakagawa. Have you ever heard the concept of hero?"
With a weird question coming from Alex, I could only look behind my back to see his considered expression.
"Uhm, yeah, why?"
He gave me the one statement that would make me hate the word forever.
"Then don't take pity on us."
