Chapter 30:
Surviving in Another World, Aided with Glimpses of the Future...
It had been to calm and quiet two days since they'd returned, and everything seemed totally fine about the village and surrounds.
Mai stepped from her house, out into the lovely morning that had come to the quiet village, stretched her arms and looked about, to see no movement around her.
However, something sparkled from below, just beside the path to their door, so Mai went over and knelt down to investigate what was reflecting the sunlight so brightly.
Huh what is this...?
Suddenly there was an unexpected dash of shadow, so Mai quickly looked back up.
Something whacked the top of her head, sending her flat to the ground and rattling her brain about in her skull.
-Uh! What... was... that!?
Mai struggled on her knees and elbows, clutching her head, with ringing ears and watery eyes closed for a while, unable to do anything else.
Eventually she wobbled on one hand, up enough to blurredly look about, finding a silvery figure before her, also lying on the grass
Lygawa...?
She blinked to get more clarity, before Mai realised she looked at a long tail on the grass.
"Uh... hide your tail... quick...?"
The figure wasn't moving, and judging by the fairer colour, Mai then guessed it wasn't her housemate at all.
Still too rattled to stand, she struggling to crawl over, but got a good look at the slightly different face and features of this other silvery girl.
Little twisted horns, lighter skin and clothes, but all silver, it could only be one other.
"Ryoniya... are you alright?"
The other remained still, sprawled out with eyes closed on the grass.
Is she... knocked out...?
"Mai are you alright over there?"
Mai heard one of the neighbours call out to her.
"Its fine... uh Gabriel."
"There was a loud noise, are you sure...?"
Mai stumbled quickly to her feet to wave off the nearby woman.
"No everything is fine... see."
She grinned, still in pain, hopeful the other figure was still out of sight behind the little hedge.
"Alright..."
Gabriel stopped and turned back to her own house.
Mai tentatively touched the growing lump on top of her head and cautiously stumbled back to her own door, watching the world sway.
"Lygawa! Get down here now!"
She shouted, but not too loudly, both to avoid more attention from elsewhere, but more for her heads sake.
The silver haired girl appeared, and immediately went to tend to Mai.
"What happened? Come sit down..."
"Your sister... is out there..."
"I'll beat her senseless!"
The dragon hissed.
"No - I think she's unconscious already..."
Lygawa got Mai to the couch, then whisked to the door to see.
"Good job Mai, yes, she is out cold!"
"Just... bring her in here... before someone else sees."
The younger sister ducked out for a second, before dragging in the older one in by her long tail and dumped her on the dining room floor.
"What else can I do for you?"
"Grab me a bag of those beans, from the icy box..."
Lygawa retrieved the item Mai wanted, giving her sister a swift kick to the mid-rift on the way past, but received a sour look as she arrived.
"What? She hurt you, yes."
Mai put the bag she handed over carefully onto her sore head for a little relief.
"Thank-you."
Lygawa sat beside and watched and waited to be any kind of further assistance to her.
Meanwhile the other dragon-girl's silver tail flicked on the floor, as she slowly groaned and shuffled.
Suddenly she bolted her body up with alarm.
"Huh, how?!"
Ryoniya kicked herself along the floor till she bumped her back into the wall.
"Where am I?!"
She glanced about, before finally fixing her sight on the two on the couch.
"You're inside Mai's house... sister."
"But I..."
She looked about still confused, till Lygawa proudly proclaimed.
"It looks like Mai defeated you!"
"Wait - what?"
Mai and Ryoniya said in unison.
"You were knocked out my Mai, yes?"
Ryoniya looked to the floor, and then reluctantly admitted.
"Curses! It seems so..."
Lygawa stood up and put her hands on her hips, towering over the older sister.
"So why'd you attack Mai like that?"
"Did I attack her...?"
She looked to her hands.
"Don't play dumb here - Mai is clearly hurt too."
Lygawa pointed to Mai's head, still under iced beans.
"I know I wanted to lure her out in the morning, as you sleep in far too much here..."
Mai realised she had picked something up and now held it from her pocket.
"How long have you been watching?"
The younger sister continued her questions of her sprung sibling; as she averted her eyes away from them, but answered.
"Three days. I waited one here before you returned - since I sniffed out this area's particular scent..."
"So what is this?"
Mai asked, holding the glistening object in her hand up.
"It is a shiny gem, from the mountain I used to reside in... I knew a greedy Human would seek a precious item."
She glared at Mai, who inspected the half hand sized blue crystal.
"I only wondered what was reflecting the light from the grass... but what did you intend to do once I looked at it?"
Ryoniya kept her mouth shut then, slightly perplexed.
"You can have this back anyway..."
Mai gently threw the big gemstone back to the still processing dragon-girl.
"...I don't need it."
The smaller one frowned as she looked the pretty crystal over in her hand.
"Ha, so you are both wrong about Mai and have lost to her, yes sister?"
I wouldn't call our accidental head clash a victory from me... unless that counts as a Dragon challenge...?
Ryoniya looked back and forth, still scowling.
"It means my defeat is total... I cannot object."
She certainly didn't sound like it was final, as she grumbled out her words.
"So that is settled then, yes."
Lygawa returned to Mai's side on the couch.
"As you are the victor, it is your decision on what Ryoniya is to do..."
The smaller one stayed on the floor, probably sulking behind her sharp bright blue eyes, that she kept angrily focused on Mai as she waited.
What to do with her...? I don't know...
Mai removed the frozen beans, that started to sting the rest of her scalp,
"What do you think Lygawa?"
The green eyed girl looked to her sister.
"I would prefer her proximity, if possible..."
She looked back to Mai with pleading eyes, on behalf of the other that hadn't changed.
"Alright... but she will be your responsibility, dose that work for the both of you?"
"It dose, yes. Sister?"
"I will abide..."
Her tail flicked against the floor.
"Do you have a place to stay?"
Lygawa gained the other silver dragon's attention.
"No unfortunately... I haven't found another unoccupied cave..."
"Then you shall stay here, yes? I will be responsible for you sister!""
Uh... I did just say that... Oh well - I hope we can manage...
Mai finally felt less dizzy, so stood unaided, while Lygawa still stayed close, just in case, and made her way to the kitchen.
"You can get off the floor... please."
Mai smiled kindly at the newest resident, who she had no idea where she would be sleeping.
Ryoniya slowly got out of their way, cautiously getting to her feet, then sitting at the table and wrapping her tail around a couple of the chairs legs beneath her, all the while not losing eye contact with the home owner.
"Are you sure this will be fine..."
Mai was still aware of those light-blue eyes, even with her back to them.
"My sister will know not to act wrongly, everything will be good!"
Gently touching her bump before she thought about their morning meal, Mai worried a little that there wasn't worse damage, as her skull still ached.
"Um... I believe it is fine... You have a very tough head Mai, yes!"
Lygawa surveyed for her after seeing her concern.
"We could always see the local healer if it still irritates you...?"
"Yeah, maybe..."
