Chapter 31:
Surviving in Another World, Aided with Glimpses of the Future...
Having a need to go into the village anyhow, Mai checked in with the healer, a old jovial fellow, named Will, even though her injury reduced to a mere itch and a mild headache by itself. Lygawa had been pestering her about it, so it was more for her sake rather than Mai's own, but with a little magic application, it wasn't noticeable at all.
Mai had never dabbled in the healing magic's, having not gotten near those chapters in the borrowed book she'd been reading, that she had been slowly doing from time to time, but less of it recently.
Returning home with a bigger amount of meat than usual, she found Lygawa instructing her sister on the ways of the home, who dutifully listened closely to her, but still remained unsociable toward Mai.
Lygawa eventually shared her bed for the night, although by the morning they had nearly kicked each other out and off of it.
They both look angelic, when they're asleep...
But as Mai moved off from her short appreciation, she felt something grab her ankle.
Ryoniya wrapped the end of her thin tail around her limb, and held her in place, while giving the most furious glare she could muster.
"Never approach me while I sleep again - for I will defend myself!"
"I would never; you don't need to worry about me..."
He whispered to let Lygawa snooze on, while feeling slightly intimidated by the more hostile sister.
I need to worry about you though...
She stayed in place, but released Mai's leg.
Mai gave her a little space from then on, but that had only been the start of it.
"Hey?"
Mai had definitely felt a slap to the back of her thigh, and there was only one dragon in range at the table.
"What?"
The little grouch looked more annoyed with her, but when it happened again - Lygawa smacked the back of her head on her way past, to then linger in the kitchen and keep a closer eye on her.
"Sister why did you -"
"It is too cramped in here! She is in my space..."
She slithered her longer tail near to show, but Lygawa was not impressed.
"All this place belongs to Mai - so you are in her space!"
She recoiled her tail with irritation, as Lygawa asked Mai.
"Is this a problem, or should we find somewhere else for her to stay?"
"Do you think she'll be fine on her own?"
Mai wasn't convinced that she'd cope with being alone, surrounded by Humans.
"I think she has made a heap of progress, yes, she did voluntarily enter a Human settlement, and all alone too."
Lygawa asserted.
"Surely she had to have seen the other villagers go about their day... maybe she can interact with them too...?"
"Interact... with more of these... people?!"
She barked from behind them.
"Yes, you need to make your debut..."
Lygawa turned about and announced.
"I will not do that!"
The littler dragon knocked her chair over as she stormed off, to the slightly further couch and folded not only her arms, but her legs too.
"I don't know..."
Mai knew she didn't trust her, let alone total strangers.
"We have the perfect opportunity, and it will happen."
Later in the day; Lygawa had to nearly drag her out from the house, after giving her a good lecture about keeping her spiralled horns and tail hidden, but by the afternoon they had gotten to the square, were a limited amount of one sided introductions were made.
When the three approached Brian for the first time, Ryoniya tucked herself right behind Mai's back, having used her as a living shield all day.
"Hello, Ryoniya?"
He smiled, after learning her name from the others, but received the same treatment as Mai came to expect.
"She'll be staying with us, but..."
Brian knew exactly what they needed.
"As a matter of fact; we have a bigger house, on the heights of the slope; perhaps you'd be interested in moving in?"
"Are you sure?"
Mai felt conflicted, having gotten used to her small home, but it would solve their problem.
"There's no one else that needs it..."
He again tried to interact with the littlest.
"I'm sure your little sister would like that -?"
The smallest of the them intensified her angry stare, but stayed behind Mai and said nothing to correct his assumption.
After a small walk, Mai and the dragons were lead to the biggest building in the small village, probably four times the size of her current place, as it backed onto the forest, while overlooking the whole nestle of smaller buildings that made up the village below and before it.
"This seems like a lot..."
Mai looked around the fount ledge, at all the faded redwood exterior as Brian opened up the darker door and invited them in to inspect it.
"We have five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a much bigger lounge and kitchen, with a couple of smaller studies too."
Mai wandered in and slowly looked about.
"It is... much more spacious..."
The double height main lounge had a staircase on one side, that went up to the second floor; witch held the bigger bedrooms.
As they meandered about, Lygawa seemed very happy, while Ryoniya found the biggest bedroom and 'claimed it' as her own - by parking herself on its large bed and refusing to budge from it.
"I think it's pretty clear how the others feel..."
Brian continued the tour, showing Mai the apparently more manageable kitchen and side rooms.
"You're quite free to move in straight away... so?"
Mai was on the cusp of taking the offer, but it felt so grand for just three.
Maybe I could convince Nullawhy to join us, and then we'll have four rooms full...
"I can have everyone help move your belongings and you can be in by tonight if you wish..."
"Alright..."
Mai said tentatively.
"You won't regret it."
With that, Brian was off to tell the other residents and start the moving process.
"This is a much better place, yes, very suitable for you Mai!"
Lygawa called out from above the stairs, before lightly leaping down to be nearer.
"Yes, I like this house very much!"
Over the next couple of hours; items and furniture were promptly moved up into the grander house, and when everyone was done, a small party occurred - 'breaking in' the new home.
While the smaller silvery one kept herself secluded in 'her' room, Lygawa too had disappeared for a short while, before returning to the small party, then just as it slowly began to wrap up and some guests started to leave, a late arrival appeared at the door.
"Ah Nullawhy, I'm glad you came. I was wondering if you would like to join us - and live with us, up here in this big house?"
"Oh! I would be honored to stay with you in this place..."
But Mai could tell something was troubling her, so ushered her to a more secluded space, since there were still a few stragglers about.
"We have a disturbing development... as on my hunt; I came across some scouting Humans - who appeared to be from the army..."
The red dragon spoke in a hushed tone.
What could they be up to now...?
"So I did a little scouting of my own... and found that same collection of soldiers we came across before, now near the forests edge... and they look to be heading this way..."
