Matthews destiny

“Matthew you are the prophesied knight who was to be sent by God to help defeat the five dark knights and their evil king” Julia said in a shocked voice. “You are a knight of God, and he has sent you to help us as one of his followers and as a helper of the lord!” Julia's father said to me.

“Let’s all calm down, and talk about this!” I told them.

After a bit of panicking, Julia’s father said to me “I'm sorry, my name is Egil and this is my daughter Julia, we are the only remaining people on this island and the protectors of the Armor of God and the Sword of the Spirit. So your name is Matthew, sorry about that earlier! We protect that which has been entrusted to our family for generations so we have to be very cautious about outsiders.

“Let us sit down and talk about everything you need to know about this world and the prophecy” Egil said in a serious voice. And so Egil told me about everything.

Apparently I am on an island no one dares to set foot on called the island of Ember. The reason is due to Sol. He burns all ships that try to enter from anywhere except the south west of the island which has such a difficult sea no one dares to pass.

There are also three continents, called Vitale, Astrid and the lost continent of Rhoda. The island of Ember is situated on the continent of Vitale. On the continent of Vitale there used to be five nations; now only two remain, Izadi and Irati. There also used to be the nation of Iñaki, the unified nation of Itsasne and Ibai and the nation of Itxaro. They sadly fell due to attacks from the five dark knights.

He then also said that the prophecy had told them that a knight, who God would send, would help defeat the five dark knights and their evil king. The dark knights are a plague to the world, that destroys everything that is good in the world and they must be destroyed as soon as possible.

The only things which are known of them are their names, that they have minions and the aftermath of where they appear. No one has ever seen one of them and survived! Their names are as follows Meri the Undine, Einar the Frost Giant, Esmerelda the Fairy Queen, Argyros the Ghost Swordsman and Sol the Phoenix. And lastly the evil which rules over them all, Satan who some say is like a snake, while others say a dragon.

My duty is to help this world from these evils. I don’t believe it! Yesterday I was on a vacation in Rome and now I have to fight Satan. Nope, I thought in my head but I didn’t dare say it out loud.

After a bit of talking, Egil said to me “I will show you the Armor of God and the Sword of the Spirit. But before that let’s spar and then eat”. And so we went to spar. I knew instantly that I could not win against Egil in a sword duel. He showed a clear stance and knowledge of how to swing a sword. I had just seen in movies how to swing a sword. I didn't know how to swing one properly! After a few second stand off, Egil dashed towards me and swung from up. I tried to defend it by putting my hand below the sword's blade and holding it upwards like a shield as they do in TV shows, but suddenly Egil's sword moved downwards and he had it at my throat. I had lost in mere moments. I could tell Egil was quite disappointed by my lack of sword skills, after all he didn’t say a word after I lost other than “let’s go eat”. I don’t blame him, he probably expected a skilled knight who could cut down mountains and then he got me. But God gave me an instant reality check and said “Matthew, you belittle yourself, why would you do that, I chose you for this! You are the one that I chose knowing exactly who you are. My promises always come true. Trust in me Matthew, Trust in me”.

I immediately got up and stopped with the self belittling and apologized to God.

After the spar it was time for the meal and oh boy was it delicious. It was Julia who cooked it and it consisted of a nice green salad-like thing. I didn't know what to call it and after that we ate meat of some strange boar-like creature. It was an amazing meal. After that Egil said to me “Matthew it’s time for you to see your Armor and Sword”.

We walked through a staircase into their basement and there it was, an Armor more beautiful than words can express and a Sword more powerful than any other. “Matthew, you shall equip this armor and draw this sword and then I will train you” Egil told me. I wanted to reject that offer, but then I heard a voice I had heard before, God.

God said to me “Matthew, you shall draw this Blade and put on this Armor, and run from this area for it shall not be safe any longer, the cracks have formed.

I wondered how it could be unsafe, but I drew the Sword and put on the Armor and then it happened. The ground started to shake and BAM. The bubble shielding the mansion was gone.

We rushed outside and were in shock that the barrier was gone. Egil said that the barrier was to protect the Armor of God and the Sword of the Spirit and that that is why Sol has settled here, waiting for it to disappear. “I had no clue that the barrier's power was fading, this is bad, horribly bad” Egil said.

And then we saw it, a flaming light appeared on the top of the mountain where Sol is said to live. And in just a few moments a phoenix the size of the whole mansion was standing before us.

Nothing could explain the fear which we had. Then to everyone's shock Sol started speaking and said “You there human in the Armor of God, give it to me and i will spare you”. But I felt like I shouldn’t and boldly said in fear “N-No”. “Then you shall die” said Sol and he started to glow more and the heat he started to emit became unbearably hot. All of the garden was burnt in mere moments and then Egil shouted to Julia “TAKE MATTHEW THERE AND RUN! DO NOT STAY AT ALL COSTS!”. Julia and I were panicking and screaming at Egil to run as well, but when Egil shouted “GO” we had no choice but to start running.

Egil drew forth a sword he had hidden in the garden for emergencies and dashed courageously towards Sol and struck at his feet, but it did nothing.

At that moment Sol started to breathe fire towards us, but Egil was prepared and stopped it with a technique taught by his family which was meant to fight demons. He swung like a wheel in the air and split the fire in half and it disappeared.

Then Julia said something which shocked me “He was a Knight of the nation of Irati before Sol appeared, he is very skilled”. But we both knew it wouldn’t be enough and ran and ran till we couldn’t see Egil or Sol.

And then we heard it, the large bang, and we both knew Egil had lost against Sol.
