Chapter 21:
[English] Clã de Ataque
"Hey, Tarik. You know where I could start selling our stuff?"
"Oh, I see. You want to be part of society even though you're an outcast. Yeah, I can help you with that. As I said, people are pretty innocent around here, you might not even need to deal with anyone shady."
This is my second day working for him. I spent my morning walking around his guild headquarters to make sure no one was trying to sneak in or uncover some kind of trade secret.
I didn't find anyone, but that is weirder than it might seem. It is the most important building in the whole town (according to themselves anyway) and I didn't find a single bodyguard. He definitely is onto something — People here are too gullible.
It is hard to imagine, to be honest. I've been suffering every single day since I got here, meanwhile these people apparently cannot even fathom the possibility of something bad happening?
I meet Lily right after the rain past noon and my curiosity doesn't get cleared, it gets much worse to be honest. She is still the exact same person, always with that tender smile and speaking softly.
"You know Manu?"
"No, who is that?"
"He is our guild master. He is such a nice guy! Fracaleza was only a settlement before he decided to support Don and bring the Clã de Agricultura's base here."
"Don?"
"You don't know Don? He is the main character! The founder of the "Clã de Ataque". Although that name doesn't make much sense, they don't strike anything — It is much more a scouting clan. It got that name because Don thought that there must be some other country other than Continuá."
Oh! So "Clã de Ataque" was not the name of the Isekai, but merely a choice of guild? God, I feel so stupid right now.
She continues "Well, what I was going to say is that I am pretty sure Manu is into Lucy, the one from the other class. Unfortunately, she is on the other big guild around here, but […]"
It is so refreshingly sublime to chat about nothing that matters and let the mind numb. Not a worry in mind, nothing going wrong.
"I missed you, Lily."
I somehow learned to be more honest with my feelings these days too.
"I missed you too." She answers, with a smile and a hug, and gets back to mundane subjects.
Did I expect the touchy-feely talk to last a bit longer? Well, doesn't matter. Our conversation didn't last much longer that day anyway, I had to meet Omar, a friend of Tarik, that is apparently reliable and someone he trusts to move our products. They look very much alike, that straight black hair, fair skin and round faces, I'd believe if he told me it is his brother.
Even though this was the easiest and most successful day since I got here, I felt even better when I got back to the camp at the end of the day. I almost feel at home with these two. We go into the night, I tell them everything about my day and go to sleep.
It was a week in which days followed as well as that first one:
I wake up early, greet my new family and get whatever they made the previous day;
I deliver the products to Omar and make some requests as to what I'd like to receive back. There isn't much artistic content, so Joy's beautiful works are almost haute couture here, so we manage to get great meat and spices for them, even got some iron tips for arrows and a knife.
I then head to the Agricultores and meet with Tarik. The closest thing to a spy is actually himself, he is always very attentive to everything around us, taught me the city's most obscure paths but, most of all, I didn't see any other suspicious activity. It seems the two of us are the only ones bothering with it.
At the end of the week he paid me with seed and some sticks, I don't know what they are for, but I don't even know if I deserved any payment at all.
Finally, I spend the rest of my day in the city talking with Lily:
"Those are Cassava's stems. It is pretty valuable."
"I don't know anything about agriculture though, should I just stick into the ground?"
"Hihihi. Yes. But they need light and space. At least a meter between them and below somewhere the forest foliage doesn't get in the way. Stick it halfway in."
"Did you learn all of that here?"
She answers with a smile.
"Yes. We are the agriculture guild, after all. We need more people, though. There are so few skill points to go around, and the soil in this forest is so weird. I mean there are so many huge trees but when we try making fields it simply stops being productive."
Few skill points? So it isn't passive after all? This many people should already have skill points for everything they need.
I add, without thinking
"Interesting."
"Yes. It is very interesting. But has been a huge problem for us. The Madeireiros are fuming. Hihihi"
"Madeireiros?"
"Yes. Their leader, Sales, was the second clan to bring their HQ here and establish this town and attract more people. That was huge for Don's guild, they can go further into the forest, knowing there is a town here. I wish I had the books here so I could lend it to you! Manu was my favorite character, his love for plants and his silly antics. Hihihi"
Yeah, now I know why every boy out there tries so hard to enjoy the same things as their crush. That was a huge blunder from me.
Well, everything ended up just fine. Here we are talking about it anyway, and I get to look at that beautiful smile and deep blue eyes.
I extend my hand and take a lock of hair that covered her left eyes, but it lingers in her forehead for an instant. My eyes wander around her face, from her eye thought the perfect bridge that is her nose and into her lips. I can't help but gulp and bite my lower lip slightly.
My heart skipped a beat, and I feel like I lost conscience for a bit there. Unfortunately, I was back online and can feel my face heating from increased blood pressure.
This really feels like she used to describe the novel. Such a chill atmosphere, we have lives that go forward and we make a difference. I'm so glad I'm finally able to enjoy it.
Omar comes to deliver what I asked earlier, and then I go back home and get to share my day with my new family, life truly is beautiful now.
