Chapter Eight: Amira Almustapha
THE INFINITY WORLD
My seatmate from year 1 through 6, the first friend I made and the only person I ever considered a rival.
Children are sent to academia when they are five years old. And in the midst of over populated students, one becomes secluded and over shadowed if they don’t try to rise above others.
“Why am I here?” I wondered after my parents signed me up for the ‘World education.’
I met Amira during my first day of school, there were over 2000 students in the hall yet my seat was next to her’s. Not a word came between us during our first year and the only time we communicated was: when she tries to wake me up from sleeping during lectures.
We became very close during our second year but because I skipped school when I felt like it and missed out on half of my tests and exams: we didn’t hang out that much.
When it came to academics, she was exceptional. She came first in class from year 1 through 6 and I had no choice but to consider her an enemy because some students have died trying and others got sent back home.
She’s the whole reason I decided “I will never lose to anyone ever again.” which made me unleash my true powers.
After we finished year 6, I never saw her again for some reason. I wanted to show her how I’ve changed from the lower years (grade) but she was nowhere to be found.

Unlike the others, she’s wearing full clothing.

The now dressed up girls came running towards us.

Seeing as I was ‘you know who’, they hurried and stood besides her.
“Amira……… Do you know Infinity!?” a girl who’s a little shorter than Amira, with a dress which exposes her belly excitedly asked.

“Eh!!?” “J-Just what I would expect from continental’s second best elite.”
“Se-Second best!?” I yelled in disappointment, and she looked away when we made eye contact.
“What is going on here?” All my nervousness faded away.
“I-I transferred over to……. Continental academy.”
{Her face is red, she’s so embarrassed. Don’t ask too many questions, okay?}
“Leave me alone.”
“.………..?” They all looked at me with puzzled expressions.
“No, I didn’t… mean you.”
“Amira, you are acting strange, this isn’t like you at all.” “Yes, your face is so red. I know he is Infinity but you are still 2nd in continental.” “Wait, don’t tell me he’s the one you’ve been saving your heart for!?”

The girls, unable to contain their excitement: bombed her with questions.
“Heart…………? No, I don’t think she’s……. saving her heart for me……………. I don’t have heart problem.”

Hearing my dumb response, All but Amira fell on the ground laughing.
{You look embarrassed, what’s wrong?}
It’s………… been a while since anyone laughed at me.
{What do you expect? I haven’t heard anything that funny in a while.}

“Hahaha!……. He’s so funny. Amira, why didn’t you tell us you knew Infinity?” “I know right? I thought she only kept tabs on him because she considered him a rival, who would have thought…….” “You two are perfect for each other.”
What are they saying? I don’t get any of it.
“Stop it guys, you are embarrassing me~.”
Covering her face with her hands, she left them and ran towards the rock I pointed earlier.
{Now is your chance, go and talk to her.}

{Because you want to do it obviously~.}
“Okay then, we’ll leave you guys alone to catch up.” “Yeah, we don’t want to ruin Amira’s moment.”
Like some obedient children, the girls went back to the waterfall.

My heart is pounding again.
With the reason behind my heart’s pounding still a mystery, I walked to where she was seated on the rock, and stood next to her.
{Don’t just stand there, sit down next to her.}
I then sat down quietly without rebelling.

SILENCE
{It’s been 10 minutes and even the other girls are getting tired of peeking. Say something! She’s too nervous, I can hear her heartbeat from here.}
What should I say?
{Hmm? You’ve never asked for my advice before………… I’ll tell you only if you beg me.}

“Uhum Uhum” She cleared her throat.
“A-After our 6th year, I transferred to the continental academy……..”
She’s not looking at me…………. And she’s talking in a low voice.
“Why………….? You graduated……. in the top 5 Right?”
“Yes but, you see……… I have two siblings: an older sister and a younger brother. They were both withdrawn from the world academy and sent to the continental. Both of them weren’t doing good and were about to be expelled from academia all together. So I thought if I transferred to where they were, I would be able to help them study…………… That’s why…….”

It’s rare for world students to transfer to continental, but the opposite is what most continental students seek.
“I’m sorry……… I really wanted us to be tog………”

{I heard it loud and clear but you wont understand even if I tell you.}

“D-Did I make you mad……….? I’m so sorry~.” With eyes almost to tears, Amira stood up to leave.
“Wait! I wasn’t…….. talking to you.”
{Idiot! You are going to make her cry!}
Hearing that, she sat back down.
I don’t know what to say to her.
“Wh-Where are we……. right now?” I asked trying to figure out my location.
“We are behind continental. We came to this waterfall to cool off a little.”
See? I didn’t need your help after all………….. Goddess~.
“That means we are in……….. the capital.”
“Yes, where are you coming from? There’s dirt on your clothes.”
“From city 1………… I was there some minutes ago.”
“ minutes!?…… I see…….. You are Infinity after all, right? Naum~.”
I feel embarrassed whenever she calls me that.
“Naum” is a word in her native language meaning “Sleep” she calls me that because I used to sleep through every lecture.
“So who is the number 1……….. elite?”
“.…….. She’s a girl from my class and she’s always ahead of me by 2 points…….. she is called “Mind”.”

“Hey, Amira!” The girls hiding behind the trees waved at her.

A bit hesitant, she stood up to meet them.
They are whispering something……..

“Amira, why don’t you bring your boyfriend to school?” “We want to show off to the whole school~.” “My popularity will go up when everyone hears I know Infinity.” “And I’ll be respected too.”
That’s what they are saying. And by the way….. I didn’t ask for your help.

After some minutes, Amira then returned to me and sat down where she was seated before.
“Naum~ You see…….. I was beginning to lose confidence in myself but after meeting you today: I feel very strong. That’s just the overwhelming influence your presence has on humans like us……… I’ve never met anyone as strong and reliable as you. Our school is filled with petty humans who sing praises to you everyday and even the gods envy you for that. We are just trash compared to you………….. So……. would you grace us with your presence and make all the petty continentals know their place~?”

I stood up.
“Let’s go! I’ll show them……. what a true elite………. looks like.”
