Chapter 28:
God Games
The black room stays dark, the table with the chessboard looked different this time, and the game earlier clearly finished. There were three seats on this table, one at each end for the players and one overlooking from the side, which housed three figures.
The first player was Falisty; her black peasant dress and her pure black eyes were deep in thought about the next move.
The second was Justice, her small figure with her white and gold linen robes falling past her body onto the invisible black floor.
The overviewer was a man with a white beard in fine suit attire with mechanical gears that sprouted within certain areas, like near his forearms and his top hat. He was called Silas.
Each represented their division, with Falsity representing the sin division and Justice representing the purity division, while Silas was part of the human creation division.
“Eclipseion, I'm assuming you all survived such an early event,” Falsitty asked.
Justices lets out a soft smile. “I'm the concurrent winner of god games in the last three seasons; I wouldn’t consider this a challenge.”
“My division lost around six members; ” Silas added.
The difference in their replies showcases their personalities: how one is straight, telling the truth due to a contract , while the other is hiding their answers, determined not to let anyone figure out anything.
“That's disappointing, Silas. Thought you would be somewhat in a stronger division, judging by the fact that you could have the bravery to approach me.”
Silas sighs, roughly leaning his arms under his chin, watching the marble table take in their game. “It's not an issue; we still have another six left.”
“Falsity, that orange-eyed girl with white hair getting that power. Is that all part of your game?”
How could I have predicted that an opponent was going to give away their power to someone just because they wanted to carry out their wishes and hope? Mortals are truly indescribable.
She replies shortly after, “No, it doesn't matter to me. Her being alive for the future is important; this will be beneficial. However, there is one that keeps figuring out too much.”
Her implication hangs heavy in the air. Justice, knowing what this could potentially lead to, gave her eyebrows a little lift.
“That tall one you mean? You were watching him closely this day,” Silas added.
She didn’t want to continue the conversation about her plans any further. What right did they have to know any more than what she gave them anyway? She prepares the beginning of their contract abruptly.
Falsity spoke, “Begin our contract, Silas. Tell me everything about the new deities.”
“Quite frankly, should Lady Justice be here? She isn’t part of this deal,” he enquired.
Justice lets out a small chuckle. “I don’t take sides; even my own division isn’t a side I take.”
“Basically, she's neutral in everything and even rejected my banishment due to it being unjust in her eyes.” Falsity let out a smile of appreciation.
Silas clears his throat. “The new gods are weaker than your generation, which is why they emphasised joining within their divisions to combine strength.”
“That's disappointing. So in a group vs. group scenario, I would win against any of them?” A forced yes or no answer
Silas sighs, his point not being conveyed. “Yes, you would. The idea, however, is that's not possible anymore.”
“He is speaking the truth; we never really go individually anymore,” Justice added quietly.
I don’t have allies; I guess that's why Silas came up to me in the first place, to find a suitable ally. My power is unmatched after all.
She let out a small internal laugh.
“Silas, who do you ally with? The human creation division is just mortal ideas turned into deities. Surely you know it's impossible to win at all.” Her tone was condescending, but it was clear that she didn’t care about good behaviour at this stage, when business gets down.
He nodded, his top hat shifting downwards slightly, as his molecule zoomed to the game in front of him; they continued playing despite the nature of the conversation.
“Lady Falsity, I want you to join the human creation division with your representatives for this god game season.”
Like I predicted, he does need some manpower, I suppose. I don't have a reason to reject. It's an opportunity for my devotees to consume tons of power and tonnes of magic energy either way. But it is oddly suspicous that he wants me knowingly despite that I could wipe his team after either way.
There was something about Shina that she particularly liked; it was the idea that she would get anything that Falisty wished done perfectly to her liking.
“Well, Silas, I could do that, but then I want to make a public thing where we all sit around our own table to discuss what to do and not in secret like this.”
She tapped the marble table, and it echoed slightly around the dark room. Silas's gears spun faster, like his very own way of showing that the consideration of her words hung around him.
“Sure,” he said, no more.
He shifted in his seat, taking a clear gaze towards Falsity.
“Tell me about your knowledge of the old generation.”
Falsity spoke in a factual tone.
“They are all stronger than you, tenfold even. Justice is considered the most powerful of them all. The purity division is the strongest bunch of deities as well, and their combined strength could rival everyone else.”
Silas widened his eyes; his gears stopped rotating.
“Everyone? All hundred deities that are allowed to exist?”
Falsity nodded before taking a look towards Justice, her expression indifferent but clearly enjoying the show.
"It's what happens when you're based on thousands of years-old traits and characteristics. Everyone has a sense of justice, be they us gods or mortals. I stand as that idea.”
A clever way of saying that no matter what anyone is, you get some sort of power from them
Falsity spoke in "That's also a quick fact about the differences between us, which were purely based on concepts. Be it myths, sins or purity. While the new generation has taken a limited approach due to being limited by physical “
Silas was taking all the information into his databank. He was surprised that it was that easy to take in the differences between the new and old generations.
The time was nearing when they had to meet up at the lobby once again; the deities that remained would gather, while those who were gone wouldn't be there. It will also announce the new event and the remaining number of representatives.
Falsity puts down her piece. “Justice, let’s just end our game.”
