Chapter 5:
Parakozumu: Transported To Another World In Onesies!
Enji flew in the air, trying to stay out of reach of his enraged enemy, the lizard fought with renewed wrath and pushed Enji to attacking from the air. Though he hated this defensive approach, the lizard wasn’t giving him any openings. Ren wasn’t doing much better, though he had his training to rely on, unlike Enji, he didn’t have the same degree of enhanced physical strength. Every blow was minor, and he had to dodge it’s talons more than land attacks of his own.
These lizards were larger, more durable, and more dangerous than the others. Not only taking hits but pushing them back. One was red with horns on its head and a massive maw of teeth, the other was yellow with plates on its back and swung its tail like a spiked mace. Enji flew in, hoping that momentum and gravity would give his blows the extra boost they need to break through its thick hide. It met the challenge, raising its head in a ramming position, as soon as they connected, Enji was pushed back, the force of the impact sending him flying. Crashing onto the ground, the spike headed lizard rushed with his maw open, crashing into its gullet, a massive turtle shell flew like a rocket. The impact knocked the creature back slightly, but it flailed more than it should have, trying it’s best to crunch through the foreign item.
The distraction gave Enji the opening he needed, flying as fast as he could, he struck with both of his fists straight into the creatures back, the impact forcing it to throw the shell out of it’s mouth, flying forward, the spike headed lizard did not get far. Hanzo stood directly in it’s path, hands clasped and arms raised.
SLAM
The resulting impact shook the ground, the lizards entire upper half buried beneath the ground, unmoving. What was once a sturdy skull now invisible under the point of impact. Sora flew herself at Hanzo, grasping the shell, he groaned, knowing what she was trying to do. He looked around and saw Ren. Winding up, he threw the shell as hard as he could. Controlling her density, she lowered it to the point of being easily flung, now a projectile, she gradually raised her density, making her go as fast as a cannonball.
Ren was pushed back, the tail and armor proving too hard for him to overcome with his fists alone. Looking over, he could see Hanzo. Based on the stance… Ren dodged the latest tail swing, jumping to the lizards side, he stood still. The spiny tailed lizard looked amused, happily accepting what it thought to be a foolish challenge, he wound up for a crushing blow, and was sent flying by what could only be a great ranged attack. The impact knocked the life right out of it, fallen the second it crashed to the ground. Ren stood surprised, not expecting the projectile to have that much force.
Ren looked over at the fallen lizard, the projectile now having transformed and walking his way.
‘’Who knew you would be such a good cannonball.’’ Ren smiled.
‘’It was a simple conclusion to reach. ’’ Sora added. ‘’I believe I am getting closer to understanding how to activate our abilities in this world. Though I would like to run some more tests to be certain.’’
‘’Is that why you are the first flying turtle?’’
‘’If my hypothesis is correct, flying is only the beginning.’’
Ren laughed. ‘’We’ll figure it out later, Now we gotta focus on making sure everyone is alright.’’
Sora nodded, turning over to the other two in the distance. She would need to figure this out later. For right now, Hanzo was shaking Enji by his collar.
‘’What were you thinking running off on your own like that?!’’ Hanzo shouted
‘’ Those big lizards were picking on those people. What was I supposed to do? Fly back down and pretend like nothing happened?!’’ Enji protested
They continued arguing as Sora and Ren approached.
‘’Enough, both of you! What is important is that we’re all okay and that the people are okay too.’’ Ren said, annoyed that he was agreeing with Enji.
‘’Speaking of which…’’ Sora interrupted ‘’Where are they?’’ Sora looked around, noticing that the people the cart belonged too were nowhere to be seen.
‘’Hey yeah!’’ Enji included ‘’We beat those giant lizards right? Shouldn’t they be out thanking us or something?’’
Hanzo let Enji down, trying to listen. He turned around behind him to the large boulder and looked confused.
‘’I can hear them huddled around still hiding. They just keep muttering things like ‘’regretting this’’ and ‘’more coming.’’
Immediately, the edge of the forest burst to life, what was once still greenery now shifted as if in a storm, a giant lizard emerged from the border, rushing forward with an open maw. Shortly, another emerged, just like his friend. Then another, and another, soon dozens of them came running forward, eager to avenge their brethren.
‘’What the…!’’ Enji screamed ‘’Why are there so many of them?!’’
‘’The most likely explanation is that they’re hungry.’’ Sora shakily added. ‘’Some lizards are known to consume their own dead for nutrition. Along with the rest of the prey here…’’
‘’That’s not helping!’’ Hanzo yelled
Ren looked at Enji.
‘’ If you got any fire in you, now’s the time to use it.’’ Ren asked
‘’I’ve already tried.’’ Enji said. Taking a massive gulp of air and blowing it out with not one ember to be seen. Ren looked at Hanzo.
‘’It might hit you guys too.’’ Hanzo denied, already knowing what he was thinking.
They braced themselves for what would surely be a one sided fight. The lizards bared their teeth in excitement as they charged, sensing their incoming feast.
Suddenly, an ear piercing scream echoed through the entire area. The rushing lizards stopped cold, some tripping as they clutched their ears in pain. The siblings weren’t much better, doubling over with Hanzo’s advanced hearing making him fall the furthest. Once the scream stopped, everyone looked into a farther area in the forest where it came from.
A massive creature emerged; red piercing eyes glowed with murderous intent. Its thick white mane seemed to glow with an ethereal light; blue dots of fire floated around the creatures body. Towering over everyone as it approached, looking directly at the reptiles, already backing away. But what was most surprising was underneath the massive creature. A fox like creature walked on two legs, its arms were raised almost in reverence and its mane seemed to glow as bright as its larger counterpart.
Both of them looked at the lizards with a terrifying glee, furthering the lizards sense of dread, the smaller of the lounge creeping to the back, ready to run away. The smaller fox smiled wickedly, eyes flashing. The larger, baring it’s fangs, put one massive paw forward and barked once. The fire flared with the creatures warning. That was all it took, the lizards turned, trampling over one another as they fled back where they came from hissing threats and complaints of hunger.
The massive fox let out a howl of triumph, glowing slightly brighter now, then it faced the humans, the malice gone. The siblings could only look in awe of the creature who saved them, and then the creature slowly evaporated, like flower pedals on a strong breeze, it showed no pain, it didn’t show any emotion or feeling. All but calm as it vanished. Leaving behind the smaller of the two, who dropped it’s arms in a show of relief.
‘’It worked!’’ the creature yelled.
Now jumping in joy, celebrating its moment of triumph. The creature ran forward towards the siblings, laughing in sheer joy. As it approached, they could make out it’s features more clearly, the siblings stood in sheer shock as it approached. Stopping just short of the group, putting their hands behind it’s back and widely smiled at them. The siblings collectively gasped in shock, finally recognizing their savior.
‘’ Tsuki!’’
