Chapter 16:

Chapter Sixteen: A Date With Amira

THE INFINITY WORLD

“Amira!!??”
The moment her name echoed, all the nearby students rushed toward her, surrounding her like bees drawn to honey. They must be students who admire her, maybe even worship her.
But what’s this…………..?
I had to disguise myself just to move freely, and now this kind of scene happens?
Hoping she would finish quickly, I stayed about twenty meters away, silently watching as the crowd swelled around her. It had been like this ever since we left the mall—Amira was clearly popular, far more than I realized.
Five minutes passed. She was still talking, still smiling, still entertaining them. For some reason, I couldn’t just walk away. I felt like I had to wait for her.
Just as that thought settled, two girls forced their way through the crowd and pushed Amira gently out of it.
“Okay guys, she’s had enough.”“Super elites are busy, you know~.”
It was Mary and the girl with glasses—the same two I had seen at the waterfall. Today, they were wearing matching outfits: light blue tops and black jeans.
They pushed Amira forward, not realizing I was standing right there. Just as they were about to guide her past me, Amira suddenly shouted—
“Wait!”
“What’s wrong?”“Haven’t had enough of being a celebrity?”
Amira shook her head furiously. “No!”
Her cheeks burned red as she struggled to get the words out. “How do I say this… I’m together with someone.”
She squeezed the words out like they weighed a thousand tons. Then, raising her arm with shy determination, she pointed directly at me.
“EEEEHH??”
The two girls yelled in unison, loud enough to make bystanders turn.
“Who is this clown?”“Are you cheating on Infinity!?”
Amira flailed her arms. “No, that’s not it!”
“Girl, are you sane?”“Every girl in the world dreams of at least seeing Infinity, and you ditch him for some clown!?”
“I told you that’s not it!!”
Finally, her two friends stopped shouting and just stared, waiting for her explanation.
“He’s… he’s umm, a relative.”
“A relative?”
Mary squinted and walked closer, studying me carefully. “Hmm, now that I look at him clearly… isn’t he wearing a disguise?”
The other girl gasped. “Huh!? Don’t tell me…! Is he a criminal!?”
“No! Just leave us alone!!”
Fed up, Amira quickly grabbed my hand and dragged me away before they could hurl more questions.
We slipped into a quiet alley, where she leaned against the wall, panting for breath.
“I’m sorry for their behavior,” she said, catching her breath. “They didn’t know it was you.”
“Don’t worry about it… But what did they mean by… cheating on Infinity?”
At my question, her entire face flushed crimson. She turned her back to me, trying to hide it.
RUMBLE.
Her stomach growled loudly, breaking the tension.
“Embarrassing… I’m so embarrassed,” she whimpered, covering her face with both hands.
I made my own stomach growl to match hers.
“Huhu~ looks like I’m not the only one. Let’s find some place good.”
Hearing that, she finally turned around with a shy smile.
Humans really are simple. I already know how to tame them.
{Really now…?}
Almost forgot you were there, parasite.
{……}
Did she just ignore me?
“Good? It has to be some place big,” Amira said, breaking the silence.
“Hmm, I almost forgot who I’m dealing with. Then let’s reserve the whole restaurant.”
“Sounds good… to me.”
Not far from the alley, she spotted a high-class restaurant.
“You won’t be able to eat with your disguise on,” she said softly. “Let’s remove it.”
She tugged it off before we even entered. The cool wind hit my face—it felt strangely refreshing.
The restaurant stood tall and elegant, clearly meant for elites. The moment we stepped inside, every gaze turned toward me.
Amira walked with poise straight to the counter and declared, “Sorry it’s so sudden, but Infinity wants to use the restaurant.”
Within a minute, the place was empty. Everyone cleared out, leaving behind only whispers and camera flashes from outside.
The realization hit me: the two of us were the greatest in our academies. Together, we were untouchable.
An elderly chef, bowing deeply, stepped forward. “Lord Infinity~ I am the head chef of this humble restaurant. Please, use us to your heart’s content.”
He snapped his fingers, and attendants rushed to clear the tables, replacing them with a single, grand round table in the center of the hall. Dish after dish—exquisite meals from across the world—was laid out before us.
Amira clasped her hands with delight. “Naum~ After you~. I’m so eager to see how you’d eat all this.”
I smirked. “Just watch. I’ll show you the difference between a human… and a god.”
In no time at all, plates piled up higher and higher.
“MOORE!!”
I roared after devouring everything on the table.
The sound of people collapsing echoed—it wasn’t an earthquake. The chefs and even Amira had fallen to the ground, wide-eyed, stunned by how much I had consumed.
The chefs scrambled, rushing out with more dishes.
“S-Sorry for the wait!!”
They moved in perfect coordination, replacing every plate with fresh, steaming food.
Amira just sat there, frozen, her eyes wide, her mouth hanging open. Outside, the crowd doubled, pressing against the glass, phones raised to capture the scene.
“MOORE!!”
Again, my voice thundered through the hall.
The head chef stumbled forward, tripping on the floor. “We-We are cooking the meals as we speak! Please, in your great wisdom, wait a while~!”
“I see.” His desperation amused me. I spared his life and decided to wait.
Desserts followed, and I devoured them in an instant. My stomach growled again—an impossible, rumbling sound.
“What the… hell!?” Even I was shocked.
LV… what’s happening?
{……………………}
She refused to answer.
By the time the final dishes arrived, an hour later, I finished them too.
“Haah! I think that’s enough.” I stood, finally satisfied.
The head chef, trembling, asked, “How did you find our food~?”
I frowned. The taste? I couldn’t even remember it.
“Not bad… use this.” I handed him my card—the unique white one.
He rushed off, processed the payment, and returned it with both hands trembling. “Thank you very much for your visit. Please, come again any time~.”
“Maybe I will… I wonder what we’re having… for dinner tonight?”
“AGAIN!!!”
Countless voices outside erupted in disbelief.
By the time we left, night had fallen. Chefs had to push back the swarming crowd so I could step outside. A few meters away, Amira made me put my disguise back on.
“They may decide to follow us,” she whispered.
We walked through the brightly lit city streets, side by side.
“Naum~ I get scared whenever I’m outside at night. I’m afraid I’ll get lost or run into bad guys… do you mind if I hold your hand~?”
Her voice trembled. Her eyes shone like she was about to cry.
I sighed and stretched my hand toward her. She clung to it instantly.
Her apartment wasn’t far—just a fifteen-minute walk. Yet she refused to let go even when we reached the door.
“I had a really great time today… can we do this again sometime?” she asked shyly.
Again? Spending time like this wasn’t so bad… once in a while.
“...Sure.”
“Really~? I’m so happy~!”
She hopped like a child, still holding my hand. She didn’t want to let go, but eventually, I pulled away.
“I need… to get going.”
“Oh! I’m sorry.” She released my hand reluctantly, her expression tinged with sadness.
“Well… see you around.”
I waved as I turned to leave. She nodded slowly, disappearing into her apartment.
What a day. I had never spent so much time with one person before.
LV… what’s wrong? Are you tired?
Silence.
She never answered, not once on my way home. It was almost like she wasn’t there anymore.
When I arrived, my parents had already finished dinner. I ate, then went straight to bed.
It had been over a week since Ha’e’rrut attacked. When would the next one strike? Or had they fled, fearing me?
No… the barrier wouldn’t still be up if that were true.
“Ugh! I can’t sleep!” Something restless moved inside my chest.
Amira… what is she doing right now?
As I lay in bed, lost in thought, LV finally emerged from my body.
“So you were there… after all?”
I thought you’d gone home.
But she ignored me. Not even a glance.
Fine. At least she won’t try to crawl back inside me tonight.
SIGH.
All I could think about was Amira. Had I been infected with some kind of… disease?
Maybe reading the letters from this morning would distract me.
“Summoning.”
I extended my right hand, and letters rained down from it, scattering across the bed.
That should be enough—I couldn’t possibly read them all.
The first was a red-patterned envelope.
> “Infinity… a name only worthy of you. From the ends of the earth, I write for a future brighter than day and hearts warmer than the sun. Your name alone gives us hope, for humans have risen from dust… I have two children, Mashin and Washin. Though they may never be as great as you, I pray one day they’ll be with you.”

With me…? In academia?
Another letter read:
> “My dad tells me if I eat and study hard, I’ll be as strong as you someday. I know humans can’t do what you’ve done… but still, I want to go to academia and help my parents. So I’ll grow up, and then I’ll be your friend!”

A friend, huh?
The next one—
> “Infinity~ I’m so hot and bothered right now~ why don’t you come here so we can mix our genes~? You know where to find me~.”

And it even had a phone number.
Another—
> “All my life I’ve experimented on ways to increase brain capacity. I’ve had countless trials and failures… but with your genes, I can do it! Let’s create the ultimate life form together.”

Strange. The last two letters talked about my “genes,” but in very different ways.
Then, one more—
> “We are under attack, but I feel you have a major role in saving the world. You are our only hope. We’ll rally behind you until the very end.”

So many letters… so much expectation. Most of them spoke of the attack, of hope, of faith.
For once, I felt encouraged. My eyelids grew heavy, and I drifted into sleep.
The next morning, before dawn—
QUAKE.
The earth shook violently.
Finally… it’s about time
