Chapter 56:

[Anime Review] - DanDaDan Season 1

Am I losing Interest in Writing?

I have decided to include this review back when DanDaDan premiered its first season.

"

You know, when I first finished this, I was kind of disappointed with episode 12 being a cliffhanger, but thank goodness it will continue around summer next year. That means we got to see Vamola and, if possible, my boi Kinta in action.

I'm going to start off this review with the OST. I am so amazed by the production; I'm in love with the OST. OP and ED are equally divine, though OP takes the winner here; I like it more than the ED. And then there's the remix of some classic music. Like, who doesn't love that? Kudos to all remixers, music arrangers, and all staff who work in the OST and Sound department. You nailed it.

Second, Story/Plot. I already read this manga way before it got an anime adaptation. I hereby declare it is worth my money. After not only an announcement that it will be an anime but also with Muse Asia providing the anime for free for all of Asia to watch, I was so F*CKING hyped. The story was just straight, plain, and simple. You don't really need a lot of brain cells to figure out the plot, and not only that, it is so much fun to read/watch. You have to read or at least watch it.
But as fun and great as watching or reading this is, it is by all means not a masterpiece because I do have a little nitpick ,and that will be in the animation section of my review.

I hate to say it, but as amazing as the animation went, there was also a lot that I feel they could've done better. For example, the photo technique animation. In episodes 1, 2, and 12, for example, there were scenes where there was not a lot of movement but a flash of images just thrown at you. I'm not going to lie to you, it felt cheap, especially when they said this was 2 years in the making. Don't get me wrong, though, the animation was so good, especially the fight scene with Acro Silky and Nessie/Alien. The chase scene with Tarou and Crab Spirit was also insanely good. Look I get it alright, it's just a boring walking sequence, but you could just animate it normally you know and I feel like that would be better than flashes of image.

Anyway, now let's move on to VA. Obviously, the 4 MCs take the cakes for this one. Momo, Okarun, Aira, and Jiji's VA did a fantastic job. I do love Turbo Granny VA, but I'm just saying her roles were so small in this season, there were like a little to no scenes of her talking, except for her first appearance. "But Timmy, Jiji only appeared in 2 episodes in this season, too. How come you praise him more than Turbo Granny?" Yeah, but he was shining brighter than Turbo Granny. The dude is literally over the top. You can feel the VA's passion for bringing Jiji's character to life. I love his VA, it's so good.

Finally, we'll talk about characters. Honestly, I don't even need to talk about this. Not only were Okarun and Momo the best ships, but they also had the best "No more than 100 episodes of misunderstanding" character award. They literally made this duo so likable from the get-go. I praised highly Yukinobu Tatsu sensei for his amazing storytelling. Even Aira, the b*tch that she is, the guy writes her well to the point she is redeemable, like honestly.

Anyway, go watch or, even better, read this series. I can tell you 100% that this is worth your time and money, trust me. Oh, and if you want to read this, you can do so with Manga Plus, available on Android and iOS. Overall I give this season 8.4/10.

TL;DR This review was added after the second season review were added to give more context for the second season.
