Chapter 57:
God Games
Silas didn't reply; he was a pretty talkative person from what she knew, but that all changed since they started the fight. He was seriously going all out.
“That shot rivalled my power. Now I'm certain this isn’t normal. Guess you've forced my hand.”
She steps towards him, one small step at a time, before stopping close to him at a safe distance for both of them. The dust around them started to fade away in the breeze, showing the ruins of battle so far. 'Destruction consumed all' was a fitting description.
Falsity clapped her hands together, a black aura forming between them before a massive black void circle spawned on the floor below them. “Witness the power of a true deity.”
Massive black tendrils emerge from the ground; their size alone was over fifty metres in height as they came out from the void below. They moved erratically and uncontrollably towards him before lashing out at all sides at once.
Silas started to weave around each of them, hoping they would stop; however, they didn't. They kept coming from the void, closing every escape he had, every spot that he ever thought of. After a couple of seconds of dodging, they were nearly encapsulated within a whole cocoon of just tendrils from the void.
He started to slowly dodge more precisely. Each time one was about to hit him, he would graze its side as he continued doing this until finally getting a gear in his hand and spinning it violently.
These tendrils will wipe him out anytime soon; they are born from the void where we all end up. Death's embrace is what I could call them, which is why even I can't control them.
The gear in his hand spun fully before he threw it up away from him, before it exploded violently. After each tendril got grazed, he planted the same gear, and as a result, the gears simultaneously blew up from the first ones' effect.
“Won’t work,” Falsity laughed out before the tendrils recovered from such an explosion; they started to violently grab in all ways before pushing him down towards the void, just like her last victim.
Silas didn't reply. He didn't even protest; he just let it happen.
“Activating rewind,” Dahoqu turned to meet his group before turning towards Toki and the rest of them.
He pulled out a little hourglass before pulling it upside down. Time slowed completely, and everyone came to a halt before it slowly started to replay the events of the fight, the way he tried to fight off the tendrils, and the way the landscape got destroyed just after beginning, until time itself started playing again.
Toki’s face turned back to the orb like before.
He reversed time; my body is looking towards the orb again. It seems to even affect both deities; this isn't possible.
Taking a glance towards Shina and Ayuri, their faces were the same as before. They didn't even give off any weird signs that they were in shock or any sort of disarray.
Did my lack of magic save me?
He turned to his side, meeting the brown formal attire of Dahoqu, the hourglass hidden within the same spot like before.
He definitely knows something, but he has to act like nothing happened. Shina, Ayuri and even his group seem not to know anything, however.
Toki takes a look down towards the orb, seeing Falsity doing the same steps towards Silas before saying the same words.
“Witness the power of a true deity.”
The scene replayed as expected, the void circle, the tendrils, as it was like last time. The only difference was that Silas was doing different movements this time. He tried running out at the start of the summoning before realising it was futile, then took out his guns again to try and shoot the tendrils, but they didn't affect it whatsoever, leaving him to get consumed by the void again.
“Activating rewind” Dahoqu quickly pulled out the hourglass again before time started to flow backwards, resetting the fight and their movements to the same place as before.
Ayuri and Shina still don't notice it. It must be just me then. I have to stop this before they find a way to loop back into killing Falsity.
He keeps a firm watch on the orb, acting like everything is ok to not raise suspicion.
If I move randomly or do something different, then he will know I'm immune, and the possibility of that being a good thing is negative. There has to be a way for me to quickly stab him to death before he has a chance to flip that hourglass.
His eyes looked around. He had Ayuri and Shina at his disposal, yet talking to them would reveal everything. He could try to get Falsity's attention before she drags him into the void to stop that. That was the best option.
The fight went as expected; tendrils rose, and Silas tried yet different attacks, from gears to guns to melee weapons, all of which had no effect at all, yet he seemed to be getting stronger and closer to escape. He was going to leave death behind until he failed once more.
“Activating rewind” The moment Dahoqu said that, Toki took his spear before jabbing it out towards him without any mercy.
Dahoqu, seeing the attempt, moved to the side before Nao came in between them to shield him from any more attempts.
“You messed up your only chance; I won’t let myself slip by anymore.” He was smart; he was perceptive. This hasn't happened twice, so it was obvious to him that something was different this time around.
He flipped the hourglass again, everyone's movements being reset back to staring at the orb. Toki instantly turned his gaze towards Dahoqu, who looked at him indifferently.
“There isn’t a single chance of you stopping this now, so instead of using violence, let's use this as an opportunity to understand the situation better, and I will let you decide what to do then.”
