Chapter 14:
The Female Leads Have Eyes For Only Me
I pulled Frank up.
His arm was hurt, but it wasn’t anything life-threatening.
Leaning towards the fireplace, I picked up a burnt log and chucked it at the werewolf.
The werewolf simply smacked it away.
Me and Frank ran for the hall.
The stinkin’ wolf didn’t run after us. It kept on laughing and walked towards us.
“Mia! Maya!” Frank screamed.
Maya was already in the hall with a spear in hand.
“Are you two okay?! What happened in the living room?!”
She looked over at Frank.
“Franky, your arm!”
“It's fine! I only got cut!”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! Now please move!”
Not wanting to waste anymore time, Frank moved to Mia’s bedroom door and tackled through.
“Mia!” he yelled.
“What?!”
She was on her bed, clenching her dagger.
Frank stormed inside, dragging me and Maya with him. The space was cramped. It was hard for 2 people to stand in this room, much more, 4.
He ushered Mia to get off the bed.
“Tai, help me with this, will you?”
I went to the opposite side of the bed and helped him push it against the door as a barricade.
Everything was happening so fast. Frank and I were huffing, but his eyes started darting around the room.
“We need to get out of here. There’s a werewolf after us.”
Mia raised a quizzical brow.
“A werewolf? That can’t be right. They’ve been extinct before you were even born, Dad!”
With trembling hands, Maya struggled to keep her grip on her spear.
“No, your father’s right. I saw it. There’s one in the hall right now...”
Mia shook her head in disbelief.
“No way. That doesn’t make sense.”
“It doesn’t matter if it makes sense or not. Right now we've got to—”
Find a way out was what Frank was probably gonna say.
But at that moment, the werewolf punched through the door!
“Ahhh!!”
All of us except Frank screamed.
The werewolf was trying to force its way in!
“Hrngh!”
Pushing against the bed, blood from Frank’s arm, spilled onto the floor.
“Dad!” Mia yelled.
“Help…me!”
Mia and I ran to the bed and pushed. Even with the three of our strengths combined, the wolf gave us a struggle at the door.
I groaned.
This thing isn’t giving me any time to heal, Frank!
“Ahhh!”
Maya screamed.
“What is it?!” Frank yelled.
“Kekeke…”
“…”
My heart dropped.
I turned my head towards the laughter. That similar, sinister laughter.
Staring at us, with its malevolent grin and shaking shoulders was…
“Another werewolf!” Maya screamed.
She raised her spear.
“It’s at the window!”
My eyes quivered.
“We’re surrounded!” Maya went on.
I shut my eyes and bit my tongue until it bled.
You’re telling me that werewolves hunt in packs?!
The werewolf at the door slammed against the door, almost knocking Mia and I over.
“Ugh! What are we gonna do?!” Mia yelled.
Frank grunted. The werewolf’s push made his arm bleed even more. He must’ve been in too much pain and stress to think of an idea.
And I couldn’t think of anything myself.
I spat blood onto the ground. Angry. And frustrated.
Think! How do we get out of this?!
I thought for a second until the werewolf by the door slammed against it one more time.
“Ugh!”
My mind was blank.
I couldn’t think of anything.
From behind us, the werewolf by Mia’s bedroom window punched through the wall, shattering glass onto the floor and backs of us.
It was over.
There was nothing we could do…
Until Maya stepped towards the bed.
Her arms were still shaking, but one look at her eyes showed how, despite her overwhelming fear, a bit of courage still shone through.
She tightened her grip on her spear.
And jumped on the bed.
