Chapter 15:

New Room, Same Problems

The Female Leads Have Eyes For Only Me

The werewolf tackled the door.

It could’ve broken the whole thing down by now, but it didn’t.

The thing was just messing with us and laughed while doing so.

The force of its tackle pushed against me, Frank, and Mia—who were trying to push back as a barricade.

“Stop pushing!” Maya yelled.

Having jumped onto the bed, she sprang into action.

She grabbed onto the doorknob and pulled the door back.

There was a tight gap as the door hit the bed, but it was wide enough for Maya’s attack.

As the werewolf laughed, its body against the door, Maya used the opportunity to plunge her spear through the gap and into the werewolf’s laughing jaw.

“Graaaaagh!!!!”

The werewolf reeled back, screaming. Its hands grabbed onto the spear, trying carefully to pull it out from its throat.

My jaw dropped. It was a grotesque sight, but…

“This is our chance to escape!”

“Nice one, Mom!” Mia screamed.

We pulled the bed back so that the door could open fully.

Meanwhile, the werewolf breaking in from behind got angry, tearing the wall down enough for it to get in.

Mia jumped on the bed first and hopped off. With her dagger in hand, she ran towards the distracted werewolf.

The creature raised its sharp claws and swung towards Mia, but couldn’t connect it.

With Maya’s spear lodged in its throat, it covered a good part of the werewolf’s vision.

“Hraaagh!”

Mia lunged at the werewolf. Her dagger connected, right into its humanoid chest, where its heart should be.

The werewolf fell forward.

“Mia, you’re insane!” I yelled.

“You girls are amazing!” Frank added.

We ran out of Mia’s bedroom, where Maya and Mia proudly chuckled.

With a raised thumb, Mia said, “Yeah, we know, Dad.”

How touching. But there are other matters we need to tend to.

“Come on, we have to keep running! There’s another werewolf behind us!”

Frank nodded.

“You’re right.”

“Should we get your sword back from the living room?” I asked.

Planks of wood crashed onto the floor as the second werewolf got inside. It growled, taking firm steps forward until we were in its view.

Then it barked.

“Shit! Not anymore!” Frank said.

Taking one step forward in this dark hall, Frank opened the door to his and Maya’s bedroom.

“Quick! In here!”

The four of us ran in.

As Frank slammed the door shut, the three of us did what was done previously in Mia’s room and pushed the bed against the door.

“Why couldn’t we run outside the house?” Mia grunted.

“The werewolf is too fast. It’d catch up in no time,” Frank said. “It’s easier to fight it in cramped places.”

“I see,” Mia responded.

Makes sense to me.

Frank grabbed his fishing rod from the corner of his room and stepped towards the bed.

I went over to Frank. Blood spilled from his arm.

“Stay still for a second, Frank. Let me heal you.”

Frank kept still.

“Thanks,” he said, once his arm healed.

“So, our plan is to kill this werewolf?” Mia asked.

Frank nodded.

“We don’t have much of an option.”

“But I’m the only one with a weapon here!”

Maya couldn’t get her spear back from the werewolf. The creature fell forward, so we didn’t have the time to push the thing onto its back.

The sound of the growling werewolf drew closer.

Mia lowered her stance, gripping tight onto her dagger.

She cursed under her breath.

We had to fight.

“Don’t worry. I have a plan,” Frank said. He held on to his fishing rod.

The werewolf was by the door and unleashed a gut-wrenching, ferocious roar.

The thing was going to strike!

“Hold it back!” Maya yelled.

“Right!” I said.

I pressed my arm against the side of the bed, using my weight to defend against the werewolf’s incoming attack.

But it didn’t matter.

The werewolf took a few steps back before charging at the door.

Its impact was too strong.

“Uah!”

My body launched across the room, as well as chunks of wood from the door and wall. Crashing down, I rolled along the wooden floor.

“Ack!”

The pain was instantaneous. A shockwave of intense heat and electricity surged across all areas of my body.

“Mom! Tai!” Mia yelled, looking over at us, concerned.

She and Frank were lucky to have dodged the bed.

I rolled to my side, trying to get up.

Damn it…

Everything hurts!

“No, no, no!” Frank yelled. “You have got to be kidding!”

My eyes shifted towards the door.

“No…”

“It can’t be,” Mia said, her shoulders dropping in despair.

With a light thud, Maya’s spear fell onto the floor.

Drops of blood spilled onto the ground.

Standing by the door, one werewolf growled, accompanied by another.

Or rather, the same werewolf as before.

Mia stepped back.

“How…how is it still alive?! I killed it! I know I did!”

The werewolf didn’t laugh or make any type of response.

All the pair did was glare.

Then growled.

My breathing grew ragged.

Think, Tai, think! How do we get out of this?!

We couldn’t go against 2 werewolves.

And all that joking earlier about having plot armor was shot down after that tackle.

Geez. My head is still spinning.

My eyes darted around the room until something rolled out of the corner of my eye.

It was the metal doorknob!

I got it!

Crawling over to it, I got up.

But by the time I could say something, Frank, who was closest to the door, sprang to action…
