Chapter 17:
The Female Leads Have Eyes For Only Me
August ran over to Maya and Frank, helping them up.
“Are you all alright?” she asked.
We all nodded.
Mia ran towards Ophelia and pounced on her with a loving, yet suffocating hug.
“Oh, Ophelia, I love you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
Meanwhile, Ophelia squealed.
“I-I can’t breatheee!”
Mia laughed and pulled away from her.
“Sorry~”
“I-it’s alright,” Ophelia said.
Stone from Ophelia’s spell came crashing down.
I pointed towards it.
“Sorry to ruin the moment, guys, but what are we going to do about these two?!”
From the dust cloud made by the falling stones, the two werewolves took two steps forward.
August lowered into a fighting stance. She glared at the two giant creatures, holding a shield in her left hand and a sword in her right.
“These creatures are fast. We have to fight.”
Ophelia and Mia stood behind August, ready to do just that.
Maya and Frank lowered their stances as well.
My breath grew shaky.
It was 6 against 2 but me and Mia’s parents didn’t have any weapons.
Could we really take them on?
I cast Protection on all of us.
Then the werewolves pounced.
One of them swung at August with its long, ferocious claws, but she raised her shield.
The werewolf’s claws scratched against it, making this horrible screeching sound.
But luckily, August was able to block it. She didn’t take any damage at all.
Thank goodness.
“Grngh!” the werewolf growled.
Oh, no.
Despite August blocking the attack, the strike pushed her back and got her off balance.
It was the perfect opportunity for the second werewolf to strike.
“Look out! On the right!” I yelled.
From August’s side, the second werewolf jumped, baring its fangs for a devastating bite.
Ophelia raised her staff.
“Rock Volley!”
Chunks of stone broke from the ground and rose into the air.
“Woah!”
The rocks shot forward.
Its target.
The werewolf’s face.
“Gragh!”
The first two rocks connected.
The werewolf groaned, but managed to jump away from the rest of the volley.
It bared its fangs at Ophelia and growled.
“Eek!”
Ophelia stepped back, while Mia smiled.
Throughout the whole commotion, she ran behind the werewolf undetected.
Before the creature could even react, Mia lowered her body and ran straight towards the werewolf’s back leg.
Blood gushed onto the stone floor.
“Gragh!”
The werewolf slashed at Mia but couldn’t land the hit.
It tried to jump away soon after, but howled as its injured leg caused the thing to stagger.
Ophelia raised her staff again.
This was the end.
“Rock Volley!”
A flurry of stone cracked the werewolf’s skull. It howled and barked in fear and pain before its body fell to the ground, buried in a small mountain of rocks.
“Nice one, Ophelia! You’re amazing!” Mia yelled.
“Not at all. You were the one who did the most damage. I didn’t do much of anything…”
“Oh, please! Don’t be like that! We couldn’t have beaten it without you!”
Ophelia shyly nodded.
After that, we all turned to help August.
Frank and Maya ran to the downed werewolf’s body and grabbed a couple of large, sharp rocks.
Maya handed me a big one.
“Here, dear,” she said. “Protect yourself with this.”
I took it and nodded gratefully.
“Thanks.”
With Ophelia’s earth magic, and our numbers, the doubt that I had before was completely gone.
It was just as I had always imagined when reading fantasy stories.
Magic is freaking awesome!
