Chapter 31:
Manifest Merge: Fused With A Goddess
Harmony wanted to go charging in immediately. Their target was right there! The sooner they could start a fight with her, the sooner this whole thing could be over!
Eunice encouraged her to take a moment to heal herself at the very least. She got a potion from her inventory, and used it to restore herself back to full health. She was the only one to actually take any damage during the fight, so she was the only one who needed to take it easy.
She regained her composure a bit and wanted to go running into the cave, but Vault stopped her and recommended that they take a more slow and cautious approach. This wasn't their cave home, so they didn't know what was inside.
They had gone a little bit inside before once, but not too far in. This time there could be a lot more traps, or even more monsters lurking somewhere inside. They might have more allies, and be more powerful, but that doesn't mean that they can just throw caution into the wind. There was also the fact that Harmony was singled out during the battle. Something about that was off to him.
Vault led them inside using the blue flames radiating from his burning haunted Knights armor as a light source through the dark tunnel of the cave. they progressed on Words As Black fog radiated through the halls.
A notification appeared just like before letting them know that they were now entering the “Gray Dungeon.”
They found themselves in a large room, this time there was a singular path leading to the exit of the other side. To the left and right of the path were tall columns of rocks covered in minerals. On top of each column was a golem poised and ready for battle. There were stalagmites and stalactites at their feet and on the ceiling directly above them.
They almost looked like fangs from where they were standing. A notification went off letting them know another fight had just begun. They were all surprised, and confused by this because they had not made contact with their enemies just yet. Why was this the case? The only source of black smoke was just faintly wafting through the air of the dungeon. Did that have something to do with it?
Another system notification went off.
“Home Field Advantage Effect: The golems are in their home dwelling. All their stats have increased by 10%.”
Harmony and Vault let out a swear once they finished reading that system notification. They all got on guard as the turn timer began. Vault was once again the first to take his turn, since he was still the fastest. He took a moment to study the room, and see what the best course of action was.
The columns gave the golems a much more higher scaled advantage. If they threw anything down at them, it would deal even more damage due to gravity. The thing is, he didn't really have any ranged attacks that he could really use. Even if he threw something he wasn't sure he could reach them.
He turned his attention back to the columns they were standing on. A mischievous grin spread across his face and he charged in. There were four golems that they had to deal with right now, and he decided to focus on one of the ones closest to him.
He activated his crafting skill, and used it to damage part of the column. He placed his hand upon it, and released a large wave of blue fire across its surface. When the flames died out, there was a dent left behind in the column. It almost looked like someone took a bite out of it.
He jumped back and returned to his starting spot. The wolf and the bat also attacked the same spot on the column. At this point it seemed like they trusted his courses of action during battle. He didn't even stop to explain any plans to them or anything.
They would see what he was trying to do then try and follow up on it. It was nice to know that they trusted him enough to go along with his plans. It still made him wonder if they were just ordinary animal companions, or something more.
Harmony charged towards that same column everyone attacked. She used her Extract skill to remove a chunk of rock from it. The lack of support caused it to start tettering. They were almost completely done cutting through.
It was now the start of their enemy's turn. The golem at the top of that same column they were all attacking, ripped off some stalagmites. and chucked them down towards Harmony. She managed to time her dodge just right, and only got grazed by one of them. She lost a chunk of HP in the process.
She couldn't really complain too much about it, because it was better than getting just straight up impaled by that massive rock spike. All the other golems took their turns, and tried to do the same. All aiming for her once again as their sole purpose in life. She wasn't so good at timing her dodges this time around. She ended up taking quite a bit of damage in the process and lost half her HP.
Vault, the wolf, and the bat. all attacked the same column as they did before. The HP bar of the column completely depleted, and the part that they were attacking finally gave way. It toppled over and caused it to fall like a tree that got chopped down during Christmas.
It collapsed onto one of the other nearby columns. The golem that was on top of the one that fell over ended up joining the other golem that remained on the damaged column. The force of the impact of the columns dealt damage to both golems, along with some damage to the column that remained.
The two golems now had half their HP and their armor completely gone. The column they were standing on had a quarter of its HP taken out. Harmony's turn came up now. She really wanted to get revenge on these rock monsters for constantly singling her out for whatever weird reason, but she knew that that would be making a stupid decision considering her current state.
She took out a potion and chugged it to restore her HP. Just like before, every single golem in the room all pelted her with spiky rocks. One way of looking at it was the equivalent of somebody on stage giving a bad performance, and getting pelted by rotten tomatoes.
For whatever reason, these things just had a vendetta against her. She didn't know what she did, but they clearly hated her. It didn't seem to matter what her party members did, she would always be the main focus.
Just like before, her party members all attacked that one column that was already damaged. Using all three of their turns they managed to completely destroy it, and drop the golems to their doom. They all got system notifications letting them know that they defeated two golems.
