Chapter 0:

Preface

Godless

In the beginning God created the Heaven, the Earth, and the Inbetween.

The Earth was without form, and void; and Chaos was upon the face of the deep. The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water.

And God said, Let there be light: and there light was light which pushed away Chaos.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also.

And to maintain the balance between the day and the night, God made the Enforcers, for it was only Order that could keep Chaos at bay.

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind: and God saw that it was good.

And God made the beast of the Earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the Earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female he created them.

And God looked upon the Inbetween and created shadows of his image; temptations for man he created them.

And God saw every thing that he had made and, behold, it was very good.

God watched man grow as they learned to use tools to hunt, traded their spears for plows, domesticated animals, built cities, developed reading and writing and mathematics and philosophy, and populated the Earth.

And God saw man fight among brothers, fathers, and sons, and saw the Earth He created stained with blood.

And God saw the spirits of man become stuck in the Inbetween where they became monsters: the soul-eating Sluagh, the blood-drinking Abhartach, the mischievous Kitsune, the warlike Tengu, among others.

And God watched as the Enforcers struggled to keep the Chaos at bay and maintain their grip on mankind.

And God saw every thing He had made and, He was not sure if it was very good.

So He tested it.

He told the Enforcers to lay down their weapons and to let Chaos take them. And they obliged for they trusted the word of God.

Chaos took over the Heavens and the Enforcers of Order were no more. Man was free to follow the path of its own choosing.

And God watched.
