Chapter 25:
The wrong way to use magic in another world.
Once we reached the group of people outside the village, we stopped our land dragon. Everyone moved to the sides, revealing a small group of people: my classmates. There was one problem, though—Agustin wasn't there.
Maria, Gabriela, Xiomara, and Alejandro were waiting there. Waiting for someone.
Alejandro stepped forward.
Alejandro: "LEO! YOU BASTARD! Are you here to finish the job!? You are not leaving this place!"
Leonel: "What are you talking about!? What's going on!?"
Alejandro: "Don't play dumb! You know what you did! Why did you kill Agustin!!!???"
So that was what happened... Agustin had died, and I was being framed for his death.
Leonel: "I just came back to this town! I haven't seen Agustin since I started travelling to the east!"
Maria: "Leo, Agustin was murdered. The priests of the Church of Nature sensed a fire magic that was not connected to this world. This fire magic is what killed Agustin. They determined that it was not connected to Mother Nature, which meant it was connected to something or someone from outside of this world."
Maria sounded very disappointed.
Alejandro: "Yeah! And you are the only person from another world that can use fire magic! You can't hide it anymore. Just tell us why you did it and then accept your punishment!"
Leonel: "I'm not the only one! There is another person from our world! He is an old, bald man wearing sunglasses. He used a massive fire pillar magic to kill Marcus, and he's probably going to target Maria next!" I was getting tired of yelling...
Alejandro: "A bald guy wearing sunglasses!!!??? Are you fucking kidding me!!!??? Do we look like idiots to you!!!???"
It was clear they weren't going to believe me.
Leonel: "It's the truth! And he is probably targeting Maria!"
Alejandro: "Are you trying to get us to lower our guard so you can kill more people!? You already killed Agustin, and Mateo is probably hiding somewhere, afraid he might die next! And now you want to kill Maria!?"
Mateo was hiding? He was afraid he might die?
It seemed that Alejandro didn't know Mateo had attacked me.
Leonel: "WAIT! Mateo is not hiding! He went east! He tried to attack me; he probably believed I killed Agustin!"
Gabriela: "There is no way the peaceful Mateo would attack anyone! And he certainly wouldn't fight against a dangerous murderer! That's a lie!"
Leonel: "If I were a murderer, then why did I leave Mateo alive? He is still in a town full of towers beyond the town of Rida!"
Alejandro: "How convenient! Now you're telling us that the classmate who went hiding is far away from here, and that he fought against you and you left him alive. Do you really think we are just going to ignore you and go east to find him when he is clearly not there!? We are not stupid!"
Astra: "Leo, it seems this is just going to get worse the more you keep talking. We should probably run away for now."
Faylinn: "Astra is right. If we stay here, we will be forced to defend ourselves, and that's not going to end well."
Leonel: "Alejandro! If you go east, you will find Mateo! The fact that he is alive is proof I'm not the murderer!"
It was time to leave. We couldn't allow this to escalate into an actual fight.
Leonel: "Girls, let's go back to Rida, but this time, we will not go into the town."
Faylinn: "Ok, time to run!"
Faylinn pulled the reins on the land dragon, and we turned around to go east at full speed.
"GET BACK HERE YOU COWARD!!!" Alejandro yelled after me with all his might.
Leonel: "Faylinn, once you reach the town of Rida, turn right and find a path that takes us up the mountain. There is no need to reach the top, though. I just want to watch over the town's entrance from a safe location."
Faylinn: "Got it."
Astra: "What are you planning on doing, Leo?"
Leonel: "They will probably come after us. They will probably get on a land dragon and travel to Rida. It's also safe to assume that Mateo must be travelling west by now. Sooner or later, Alejandro and Mateo will be reunited either in the town of Rida or just outside, and that's how they will confirm that I didn't kill Mateo even when I had the chance."
Astra: "And what if this doesn't change anything? What if they still try to hunt you down?"
Leonel: "Then we will just wait until the bald bastard shows up. He is probably going to aim for Maria. We will just need to act quickly."
Faylinn: "And if he does show up, will you really be able to stop him? All those things we crafted, are they going to be enough?"
Leonel: "They'd better be enough to stop him. Otherwise, we will all die."
Astra: "Finding a hiding place between rocks in the mountains should be easy, but if the bald person shows up, we might not be able to come down the mountain fast enough to stop him."
Faylinn: "Actually... there will be a way to come down the mountain at a decent speed, but it will require a bit of effort from both of us."
Astra: "What do you have in mind?"
Faylinn: "We will just get our land dragon to ride a hard rock on a lava slide."
Leonel: "How are you going to do that? We will be going up a mountain; it's not a volcano."
Faylinn: "Don't worry, Leo. We know what to do. For now, we just need to find a nice place to watch over the town while we wait for your classmates to meet up with Mateo."
Leonel: "It is probably going to take a while before anything happens. But we have to remain alert."
We kept travelling toward a mountain near the town of Rida while I explained to the girls the strategy we were going to employ to deal with the bald bastard in case he showed up.
Once we reached a safe location, we decided to wait.
We could see two land dragons leaving the town where Miss Iria lived.
It was probably them.
As expected, they took their time to figure out what to do.
Leonel: "Astra, Faylinn, you girls have better eyesight than humans. Can you take a look at those land dragons running toward Rida? Can you see the people riding them?"
Faylinn: "Yes, it's them. I can see them."
Astra: "Two girls with black braids riding one dragon, and a guy with another girl riding the other dragon."
Leonel: "Astra, keep your eyes on the two girls with braids. The bald bastard is going to target one of them, but he probably can't do it while they are riding the dragon."
Astra: "Don't worry. I will keep my eyes on them."
Leonel: "Faylinn, you keep your eyes on the town of Rida. If you spot an old, bald guy walking around town, let me know right away."
Faylinn: "Got it!"
We were ready.
Now we just had to wait.
