Chapter 32:

A rocky menace.

The wrong way to use magic in another world.

The flying nara was getting closer and closer.
This time for sure we were going to defeat an enemy using nothing but daggers and swords.

Once the nara got close to Astra, he flew downwards at a crazy speed.
Astra managed to grab it, but she was clearly using all of her strength to hold it in place.
We had to do this quickly.

We ran toward the gargoyle, with the intention of attacking it from behind, and right before we could land a hit... another flying nara attacked Astra from behind.
It looked like a large bird. It hit Astra's back with its beak.
Astra's scream, along with the blood splatter, made it obvious this was going to get bad really fast.
Alejandro proceeded to attack the gargoyle by piercing its neck through its cracks with his sword and dagger while the gargoyle was still being held by Astra.

I turned around and tried to attack the bird behind Astra. I assumed it was the red bird with highly flammable feathers, so I just used a very tiny fireball at close range, but it didn't have any effect. This was not the same kind of bird. I needed a different tactic.
So, just like I did last time with the kobold nara, I aimed for one of its eyes. The bird then tried to hit me with its beak but its beak was caught in the "serrated metallic teeth" of my arm-guard that were made to work as a sword breaker, but in this case was capable of stopping a monstrous beak.

The gargoyle then managed to break out of Astra's grip. She was probably losing strength.
Once the gargoyle retreated into the sky, Alejandro came to attack the bird's remaining eye with his sword.
With both of its eyes damaged, the bird tried to walk away from us. It was not flying.
We then pushed forward, aiming for its neck, seeing it as the only part of its body that seemed easy to break through.
While we were trying to attack the bird, we heard a loud noise, as if something heavy had hit the ground. The gargoyle had fallen and we had no idea why.
This was good, but we still had to deal with the enemy in front of us.

Then, the bird, which seemed as if it had been trying to walk away from us, leaped forward with amazing strength, achieving a leap speed that would never be possible for a human. I used my fire strengthening magic on my legs to dodge it, but Astra was just standing there. She blocked the bird's ramming attack with her scaly arms.
The bird couldn't break through her scales, but it did push her back, probably exacerbating the damage she had received on her back.

That was our chance to attack again. This time, we managed to cause enough damage to its neck with our bladed weapons that the bird stopped moving.
The dark fog surrounding the nara had dissipated.
The battle was finally over.

That's what we thought.
I went to check on Astra's wound. It wasn't a big wound, but it seemed to be deep.

Leonel: "Astra, should we use one of the regeneration amulets!?"

Astra: "There is no need to waste them now. I can handle this with my regeneration spell for now. We just need to go back to the town. There is a good healer there, remember?"

Leonel: "Oh, right, that lady used an instant healing spell. Let's go now!"

Just as we were getting ready to go back to town, another Nara showed up.
This time it came from beneath the earth.

A large worm-like Nara came out of the ground and spit some green stuff on us.

Astra immediately covered us with her arms and tail. Her clothes started melting. It was some kind of acid. The scales on her arms and tail were not affected, but the acid landed on some parts of her skin. Of course, she had to interrupt her regeneration spell.

After spitting acid on Astra, the nara went underground again.
I was sure it would come out to attack us again.

Astra: "Leo, as soon as it comes out, shoot a tiny fireball into its mouth. The acid that will be dripping from its mouth is very flammable."

That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

I waited for a while and then I saw it coming out from behind Astra. It seemed the nara had been targeting her the whole time.

I quickly attacked with a very tiny fireball, so small it wouldn't burn my hand. It reached the nara's mouth before it could spit its acid at us.
The acid that was still dripping from its mouth caught on fire and the creature's mouth burned from the inside.
The nara started shaking around with its mouth pointing upwards.
This was our chance to attack.

Leonel: "Alejandro, now!"

We both attacked the creature with our bladed weapons. Three weapons stabbing the creature from different angles.
We kept pulling out our weapons and stabbing it again as the creature kept shaking uncontrollably.
Eventually, it fell to the ground.
As soon as we saw that the dark fog around its body had dissipated, we confirmed the nara was dead.

Now Astra was able to cast her regeneration spell on herself again.
We just had to go back to town.
After all, the battle was finally over.
And we were right.
The battle was over.
For us.
But in town, things were different.
We saw a bunch of guards from the eastern and western gates going into the town, as well as some smoke coming from it.
We knew it had to be Faylinn's doing.
I was 100% sure that more nara had appeared.

Leonel: "Astra, it seems there might be more nara in town. We should go there now, but do not attempt to fight, just focus on healing yourself. Faylinn will probably be fine."

Astra: "I hope you are right..."

We went into town, only to find more chaos than we expected.
