Chapter 44:
Doppolia: A New Magical World
The demon repeatedly shoved the elves off him, peeling them like an orange peel. While the elves distracted him, Captain Yuro felt a powerful attack approaching. He averted his eyes to the Tri-Carver’s three slashes.
The slashes travelled at an insane speed, like a bullet train. The demon barely had time to react to it. The piercing air attack made his hair stand on end. Although he was excited that the battle continued, for the first time in the entire fight, he felt a sense of fear.
His survival instincts kicking in. Yuro crossed his arms and braced for impact. The three slashes clashed with Yuro, cutting his first layer of skin throughout his body. The clash created a disastrous gust of wind like a category five hurricane, causing some of the elves to fly away.
Soon after the aftershock dwindled, Yuro lowered his bruised arms. The attack left him injured, but he was still able to fight. He briefly looked my way, glancing at the Tri-Carver.
“That was a good attack.” He noted to himself as he tried to wake up his numb arms. His cheerful voice turned slightly serious, and he became cautious of the possible threat my blade posed. “I should definitely avoid that.”
…
The look of shock spread across the team and me. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It finally worked! Thank you, Naima! This was all thanks to her and Hinabe!
“You finally did it!” The elf siblings exclaimed as they went to congratulate me.
Amada and Anojin avoided eye contact with me. The elf siblings and I looked shocked by the attack, but the other two were even more stunned.
Amada stated with a quiet voice. “I didn’t think you would actually figure it out.”
“Yeah, I had no faith in you at all,” Anojin added on, huddling up with Amada, like the fake friends they were.
“Wow, thanks for your kind words, team,” I said sarcastically, muttering under my breath.
After giving me my props, Naima casually glanced over at Captain Yuro. “The attack did something to him, but he’s still standing.”
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m going to try it again.” The siblings backed up from me as I charged up another three slashes.
I repeated the same technique, thinking of the blade as an extension of my body. I felt my mana naturally condensing near the blade and took another swing in the air. Another three deadly air slashes were released from the Tri-Carver, racing towards the demon.
Yuro clocked the incoming attack and swiftly moved out of the way. The slashes continued to move forward, without anyone stopping them.
They cut through the buildings behind the demon, splitting the buildings and ground in two like a sharp knife. Thankfully, no elves were hurt from the impact.
I proceeded to unleash several consecutive triple slashes at Captain Yuro. The demon mustered all his strength to dodge every attack coming his way. The battle took a turn.
Surprisingly, it felt like I was in control of the fight. I remained on the offensive, as Yuro scurried around the area, increasing the distance between us. The spectators watched the childish display as if the demon and I were playing a quick game of whack-a-mole.
Things weren’t going anywhere. The longer he dodged, the more annoyed I became. I pulled my eyebrows together as I angrily demanded, “Is this the fun you pictured, demon?! Huh?! Stay still so I can hit you!”
Before the power shift inflated my ego, I kept my composure. This was pointless! I was wasting my energy on those strikes. I just needed him to stay still. I encouraged the nearby elves to continue distracting the enemy.
“Everyone, get him!” I commanded, aiming the Tri-Carver at the demon.
The citizens continued their assault on Captain Yuro. They launched more attacks, and while the close-range fighters held him in place. As soon as he broke free, the elves would pin him down once more.
Yuro pleaded with the elves, grunting as he tried to shove them away. “Ah, get off of me! Stop interrupting us!”
…
Yuro still had plenty of energy. But the bruises from my attack weakened his arm strength. The elves learned from their mistakes and applied more of their weight to the demon. His sheer strength couldn’t outweigh the number of elves pressed on him.
With the enemy trapped, an idea appeared in my head. The Tri-Carver’s slashes worked, but weren’t as effective as I had planned. I hoped that would have been a one-hit knockout.
“That’s it, keep him there.” I shook my head in approval at their efforts. “Now, I need to hit him one more time.”
Amada quickly asked Naima, “How many more times can you use your stat boosting spell?”
“I can have around three uses left.”
“Perfect! Can you cast another attack boost spell on me? I want to help pin the captain down.”
I butted into their conversation, looked over to Naima. I still had no idea what exactly Naima’s spells did, but from what I saw, it would be very helpful to have. “Could you have one of those attack boosting spells?”
Anojin also requested the last spell. Naima agreed and handed out all three uses of her spells. As she cast her magic on me, I felt a warm layer of yellow mana coating me. My body felt surprisingly lighter as well.
With this temporary upgrade, I gained a rush of confidence with my slash. The only problem was somehow keeping Yuro still.
I glanced over at my teammates, with a plan in mind. “I don’t think the citizens can hold Yuro down any longer. Could you guys keep him still for me?”
Amada understood her role and nodded. Anojin did not want to follow my orders. However, he hated how long the battle dragged on. With no other options, he forced himself to oblige.
Since Hinabe had no offensive ability, I recommended, “Hinabe, could you heal the citizens from our attacks?”
“Oh, umm… alright. You got it!”
Everyone in the team had a role in the plan. The demon was occupied with the elves, so he wasn’t focused on us. It was time to go.
…
Amada led the counterattack. She immediately extended her arms out and channeled all her energy into her attack.
“Lightning Ray!” She released another massive lightning bolt that stretched as long as a football stadium.
The bolt struck Yuro, temporarily impairing his nerves. The elves attacking the demon were caught in the crossfire, feeling the aftershock of the lightning. Luckily, Hinabe followed up after Amada’s spell and healed the elves from a distance.
“You guys are wasting your time. It’s only a matter of time before I break free!”
Soon after, Anojin sprinted towards the paralyzed Yuro. He ran past the captain’s blind spot.
Eventually, he arrived at the pile of elves. Anojin carefully maneuvered through them until he was in range of Yuro. The crusader wrapped his arms around Yuro’s body, using the demon as a shield, facing me.
Yuro sensed metal plates hugging him and glanced over his shoulder. “What are you doing, crusader? This isn’t a fight! Let go!”
“Who said this was a fight?” The crusader chuckled in a hearty manner. “Like I said before… you’re up against the best crusader, ever!”
Once he had a firm grip, he signaled to me with a yell. “Hey, fraud! You’re up!”
His call reached me. After giving me the green light, I lifted the Tri-Carver into the air. As I charged my blade one last time, I had some last words and shouted over to the demon.
“Hey, demon! This was fun while it lasted. I only feel bad for rejecting you all those times. You’re definitely strong… but not as strong as me!”
I forcefully swung the Tri-Carver into the air. Three more slashes erupted from the weapon. The air slashes felt heavier after I swung the sword. Their size and power had tripled since the last time. The ground crackled as strongly and dangerously as a natural earthquake.
The female elves, who cast the long-range spells, ran to take cover from the impact. Everyone else stood their ground selfishly.
Yuro faced the three strikes approaching and desperately tried to move out of the way. “Stop! Let go! You’re going to get hit too!”
However, Anojin and the elves ignored him. They groaned loudly, struggling to hold him back.
A look of worry rushed on the demon’s face. He tried everything he could before the attack would eventually land.
