Chapter 45:

Mr. Satori's Doppelganger

Doppolia: A New Magical World

The Tri-Carver’s slashes were approaching Yuro and the others within seconds. Captain Yuro mustered all his strength to break free of Anojin and the elves… but it was no use.

Naima shouted at the elves holding Yuro down. “Everyone, get behind the crusader!”

The elves rushed behind Anojin. Although there was less help, Anojin managed to hold his ground while summoning all his strength.

The demon had more wiggle room. If he had five extra seconds or more, he could have probably escaped. However, the time came near. At the final second before impact, Anojin cast his block spell.

Slash!

The impact shook the ground, causing everyone to lose balance. Yuro’s pupil faded as the slashes swiftly pierced his body, slicing him in half.

I was never a fan of gore-related things. I expected his body to fall into pieces like in those very gory movies. Luckily, his body remained intact but had visible deep scars slashed on it. The attack cut him so clean that there was no gushing of blood.

His body would soon fall face-first to the soil… but the attack hadn’t ended yet!

After driving through Yuro, it continued its momentum and struck Anojin.

The crusader grunted as he clung to life from the aftershock. The pressure of the attack forced his feet to sink into the ground. He desperately tried to fight against the deadly strike.

“Ahh! I am Anojin, the greatest crusader you have ever seen!”

The elves behind him cheered the crusader on. The ones directly behind Anojin were safe, but the other ones behind him flew away like dust.

If he had used his normal block spell, I didn’t believe he would have survived it. It would have probably broken the threshold the spell could handle… or something along those lines. Thankfully, he was coated in Naima’s boosting spell.

After a long fight for survival, Anojin successfully blocked the powerful attack. As the attack faded into the air, the crusader fell hard to the dirty ground, paralyzed.

The tension surrounding the village had disappeared. The fight finally came to an end!

Celebration was in session! The citizens of Dryd Village shouted in joy, congratulating each other on their hard-earned victory.

In my eyes, I wouldn’t call it “Hard-earned” for the elves. They didn’t really do much except for being a distraction. Then again, that was the vital factor in winning the battle… I retracted my statement.

The elves, protected by Anojin, rushed him, surrounding him. The men began chanting his name and tossed him into the air in celebration. The children couldn’t reach high enough, so they jumped and clapped their hands to praise him.

“Anojin! Anojin! Anojin!”

Anojin disliked the sudden praise from the elves because they were mostly males. “Put me down, you disgusting beasts! I can’t move right now, and you’re making it worse!”

The male citizens praising him were blinded by joy. They chose to ignore his request and continued cheering.

Hinabe hurried to Anojin’s side. She approached the crowd of elves. She shyly pleaded with them to stop throwing him into the air. “Everyone, can you please stop tossing Anojin into the air. I need to heal his injuries.”

Anojin glanced below with a bright expression. “Oh, Miss Hinabe, I’m so glad to see you! Please help me!”

She repeatedly asked the elves to lower the crusader, but her voice couldn’t be heard over all the shouting.

Amada and I observed the overall situation. We squinted our eyes at the defeated Yuro, hoping not to see him come back up. However, after a minute of gazing at the body… it never moved.

Once we realized the danger was already behind us, we dropped our guard and let out an exaggerated sigh of relief.

“Thank goodness, it’s finally over!” Amada said wearily as she sat with her legs open, tilting her head upward. “That was definitely way harder than when we fought against Astra.”

I dropped the Tri-Carver to the floor and held my hips, exhausted from excessive use of the weapon. “Yeah, I’m so glad it’s over. I don’t want to fight anything for the couple of weeks!”

Despite Hinabe healing me earlier during the first half of the fight, the triple slashes depleted all my energy.

Naima expressed her gratitude, and I could hear the warmth in her voice as she praised us. “You guys did awesome! Let’s go back to my house to rest."

We kindly accepted her gesture. Naima informed the other two, and they shortly followed behind. The elves overheard the situation and stopped tossing the paralyzed body into the air.

Because the crusader was too heavy for the girls to escort, I was once again forced to carry him back to the house.

I handed the Tri-Carver to Naima and dragged our sore bodies to the elf siblings’ house. The citizens continued celebrating throughout the day, while we rested.

It was expected that our bodies would be hurt. We all overused our bodies when using our amplified attacks. Our bodies took a heavy toll. Maybe that was the drawback Naima’s spell had.

I had asked Hinabe to heal us, but she later regretted informing me that she was depleted of her mana because she used it on the citizens.

Great. With both siblings lacking mana for healing magic, we were forced to recover the old-fashioned way… time and patience.

We rested in the comfort of Hinabe’s home for about two full days. The siblings were kind enough to care for us during that time. They would change the sheets, reapply our bandages, make us food, and so on.

Once we regained our strength, it was time to head out. I cleaned up my comforter and cleaned myself. As I walked around the house, I noticed the patio door was slightly open. Amada sat outside, dozing off.

I casually slid the doors open and asked, “Is everything ok, Amada?”

“Yeah.” She paused, clearing her head, then started ranting. “Sorry, I was just thinking about when we first met. I had originally planned to defeat the demon king, Satavio. To be honest… I had no expectations. It was like a last resort type of thing.”

“But I would have never thought we would’ve accomplished so much already. Defeating two of Satavio’s captains? Befriending royalty? Meeting Anojin and everyone else? This probably would have never happened if I had summoned the real Mr. Satori.”

Amada’s gaze at me softened. “So… thank you… for everything. This has been fun adventuring with all of you.”

Damn, I never expected to hear Amada’s vulnerable side. What got her so sentimental? But she had a point. Who would have guessed this would happen from our first encounter? I hate to admit it, but it was kind of fun.

“You’re welcome, Amada,” I replied. “But this is only the beginning. You summoned me here for one reason. And I won’t be satisfied until I fulfil that role! Buttttt… that’s a goal for the future. For now, let’s keep going one step at a time.”

Amada let out a gentle chuckle. “Ha, you’re right. One step at a time.”

After reflecting on our journey, I headed back inside to prepare for our leave.

Eventually, everyone packed their belongings and was ready to head out. We exited the house and were greeted by everyone in the village.

They surrounded the pathway, giving us plenty of open space. They gave us a round of applause for our bravery and effort in saving their home as we strolled to the exit.

“Thank you, Mr. Satori, for defeating that demon!” a young elf shouted with glee.

“You guys are amazing!” another said.

Seeing their happy expression slightly warmed my heart. This was a nice change of pace.

Naima and her mom stood at their doorway, waving their goodbyes with huge smiles. Hinabe’s older sister yelled to us, “Bye, Hinabe! Bye, everyone! Please come again soon!”

We momentarily paused and turned our attention to Naima.

“Oh, we will Miss Naima. We’ll visit soon!” promised the crusader with his charming manner.

Hinabe shyly waved back at her family. “Bye, momma, bye, older sister! See you soon!”

“Alright, I think it’s time we go,” implied Amada as she waved at the elves.

I took a minute to reply to her, letting everything sink in. “Yeah… you’re right.”

We bowed our heads, thanking Hinabe and the others for their great hospitality one last time before our exit. We parted from the Dryd Village and strolled back to Stalu, back to our apartment.

With the annoying threat of Yuro now out of the way, I began having visions of the upcoming troubles we might face. Are the other captains as strong as Yuro? When are they coming?

But hold on, why should I worry about something in the future? The more I thought about the possibilities, the more it would give me a headache.

Being transported to Doppolia had really changed me for the better. I was never an active kid growing up, but completing these bizarre quests has motivated me to be more active. Also, they were also enjoyable to do.

I never had many real friends back in Japan. These were my first. Sometimes they annoy me, especially that stupid crusader, Anojin. But, after spending time with them, I realized we had formed an unbreakable bond.

I still planned on defeating the demon king… eventually. Based on the captains I faced, it didn’t seem like Satavio would be planning an attack on us anytime soon.

So… for now, I’m going to take one step at a time and enjoy my time in his magical world with my new family.
