Chapter 38:

A wandering ghost.

The wrong way to use magic in another world.

With the giant snake nara coming back to attack the girls again, I had no choice but to order Astra to use the small bow she had been keeping for the final battle.

Leonel: Astraaaa! Use the bow now! We have no choice!

Astra grabbed the short bow that was hanging from her backpack.

She then took a single arrow from the backpack. But this was no ordinary arrow. It had a copper wire tied to it, with the other end connected to a bunch of topaz magic crystals tied together inside the backpack.
These crystals stored lightning-attuned mana.

Astra: Faylinn! Get ready! You will only get one chance! and only for 2 or 3 seconds at most!

Faylinn: Ok! Just shoot that thing!

Astra then shot at the snake nara right before it could attempt to swallow her. The arrow pierced the creature's tongue and Astra immediately unleashed all the lightning mana stored in the crystals . As a result, a powerful electrical current travelled through the wire and electrocuted the giant snake nara, causing it to stop moving. But this was a temporary solution, one that would last a few seconds at most.

Faylinn once again jumped onto the creature's head and tried to punch it with her left fist, which was still partially damaged by acid burns that hadn't fully healed.

She managed to break through the skull of the creature, but it quickly regained its mobility and started shaking again. Faylinn was holding onto a piece of the exposed skull bone while the creature moved around. It was during this violent movement that the tip of the tail of this creature managed to hit Astra, causing damage in the same area of her back where she had been wounded before. Faylinn then jumped into the air and fired a bunch of mid-sized fireballs downwards, one of which hit the creature directly in the brain, basically destroying everything inside its skull.

Once we confirmed the creature was dead, it was time to heal Astra.

Leonel: Astra, how bad is your wound?

Astra: It's not as bad as it looks. I can probably heal most of it by tomorrow morning.

Faylinn: But what if another nara shows up? What if the bald bastard shows up? We might not have time. Leo, tell her to use one of the regeneration amulets.

Leonel: Faylinn is right. We might need to use one now, otherwise, your performance in combat might be affected.

Astra: I don't think that's going to be possible.

Leonel: Why!?

Astra: Because we don't have time. A flying nara is coming.

Faylinn: She is right!

Astra: It's a single nara, and not necessarily the biggest one we have seen.

Faylinn: I can handle that one, don't worry.

As expected, the flying nara ignored the humans in our camp and aimed for Faylinn.

It flew at high speed directly toward her, as if trying to ram her, but Faylinn simply jumped at the last moment, grabbed it by the head, and basically blew up its head with a fireball used at close range. She then landed gracefully in front of us, as if it had been the easiest fight in her life.

Faylinn: I guess the bald bastard must be running out of blue crystals, because he is sending weak nara now.

Alejandro: Wait a second... doesn't that bird look like the same nara that the bald bastard used to leave town? You know, when he was hanging from the legs of a flying nara...

Leonel: He is right!

Astra: No wonder he didn't mind sending a weak nara. It's just that he didn't need it anymore.

Faylinn: He must be nearby.

Leonel: Ok, time to stick to the plan! Alejandro, go back to the wagon and get the armors ready!

Then we heard a voice from the other side of the lava patches that Faylinn and Astra had created earlier. "Get the armors ready? That's hilarious."

He showed himself. The bald bastard was here.

Leonel: You bastard. We know what you are doing. We are not letting you kill everyone just so you can leave this world.

Bald Bastard: Oh, so you think you can stop me?

Leonel: I'm sure I can. That's what we have been preparing for.

Bald Bastard: Preparation and strategies are of limited use in this world. Besides, you have no chance of survival. I've been struggling to survive for over 50 years. I know how hard it is, which is how I know that you can't possibly defeat me.

Leonel: So, you were summoned a long time ago after all. What happened to the rest of your group? Do they know what you are doing?

Bald Bastard: My group is gone. Some of them were killed by wild creatures, others got lost in the void zones and probably died before they could leave. I'm the only one left. And your lives are the only thing that will allow me to achieve my goal. But I don't need those dragon girls.

The bald bastard aimed at Astra with his revolver, but Faylinn quickly reacted by shooting a bunch of small fireballs in rapid succession. His entire body could have been hit, but the bald bastard turned around and blocked them with his right arm, while some of them hit him in the right leg.

The fireballs burned away part of his black robes, his shirt and pants, revealing something I had never seen in this world. The guy had a mecha-arm made of a dark blue metal. He also had a mecha-leg made of the same material.

Faylinn: Azurium armor!? She was extremely shocked.

Bald Bastard: Armor? Ha! That's ridiculous. Most armors are useless in such a dangerous world. These are functional mechanical limbs made of azurium. My original limbs were taken from me by this cruel world. Both of them were reduced to ashes when I was using fire magic to defend myself from creatures that attacked me for no reason. That's the kind of world this is. And the same thing would happen to that guy over there if he were to live long enough, but I'm not letting that happen. I'm taking his soul tonight.

I guess it makes sense. If Astra and Faylinn hadn't warned me and trained me, I would have lost my limbs too. Magic is dangerous to our bodies.

Leonel: Do you really want to keep murdering people just to return to Earth? Don't you know that's not even possible?

Bald Bastard: You fool. Returning has always been a possibility, but certain sacrifices are needed.

Leonel: I know about the reverse ritual and the summoning platform, but you can't return to Earth with it!

Bald Bastard: What are you talking about, you idiot? I know exactly what I'm doing.

Leonel: Clearly you don't know. Our original bodies were destroyed during the summoning process. Only our souls were brought to this world, and a new body was recreated around our souls. If you use the reverse summoning ritual, only your soul will travel back to Earth, but you will not have a body over there. You will be stuck as a ghost, roaming the lands forever!

Bald Bastard: So? What's the problem?

His reaction left me speechless. This guy was not being rational at all. He was fine being stuck as a ghost on Earth forever? This made no sense at all.
