Chapter 14:
The one who brings smiles in another world
Slowly, I was able to see, and my senses were working again. I thought I was outside, but what I saw was a ceiling. Actually, it was like an infirmary ceiling.
“...Huh?”
“Kazu?!”
Fran was in a seat, looking at me worried. I don’t know how much time has passed, but it would be a problem if it was more than a day.
“Are you okay?!”
“Uh…yeah…”
Suddenly I remembered what had happened and looked at my chest. For some reason, I didn't have a single wound.
“What…?”
“Thank god…Leonard was right…”
“Leonard?”
“He healed you.”
“...I see…”
“Just don’t-.”
I tried to get up, but a huge pain started after my first move.
“Agh!”
“Move…”
“Why does it hurt?”
“Apparently Leonard can heal recent wounds, but you will feel pain for the rest of the day.”
“He attacked my shoulder, chest and back…It will be very difficult to get up…”
“That doesn’t matter. How do you feel…?”
“Physically…I’m okay.”
“That’s good…”
“But...this is so frustrating!”
Moving was too painful, so I did a stress ball with mana and started squishing it.
“You knew you couldn’t win…”
“Yeah.”
“Then, why did you do that?”
“He was rude to you and didn't even try to hide it.”
“Kazu…”
“I already had fun with you playing music and singing, I couldn’t just allow it...That would be unfair.”
“That was unnecessary, I’m used to that kind of comments.”
“...You shouldn’t be used to that…”
With a weird expression, Fran started playing a little with my hair, probably knowing that I couldn’t move his hand.
“You know? You are really weird.”
“I already know that my way of doing things is a little weird.”
“It’s not that. You’re bold, and a little mean with some people, but you're strangely kind.”
“...It’s just your imagination, I just did what I wanted to do. Consider it a selfish act.”
“Don’t say that. A selfish person wouldn't do something so stupid to defend a friend.”
“...I guess…old habits die hard…”
“I don’t get it.”
Doing things for other people without thinking was a habit I always had. In my previous world it wasn’t weird that I cancelled my plans when someone from my work had complications, still, I thought that would be something from the past and my time here would make me change. It may take more than just time to make someone change.
“Excuse me.”
Suddenly, a girl with a black hair and huge eyebags entered.
“You’re finally awake, that’s good.”
“Umm…”
“Would you let me do a single check up?”
“Huh, sure.”
From the way she said that, it was obvious she was helping out in the infirmary in some way, so maybe she's going to take a look at the places where I was attacked.
“Please don’t be scared, that would make everything more difficult.”
“What do you-.”
Suddenly, one of her fingers became a little transparent. She didn't explain to me what had happened, nor did she explain anything to me when she inserted that finger into my chest.
“Wha-.”
“Looks like he was also able to heal any internal injury.”
“Huh…”
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna touch any of your internal organs.”
“It’s not that…the heck are you doing?”
“Intangibility magic, a type of magic created by my father for looking at the inside of any injured patient.”
“That means…”
“My name is Amelie, but that doesn’t matter now.”
She pulled out her finger, and immediately after, she hit my chest with her thumb with a bit too much force.
“Gah!”
“Hey! Why did you do that?!”
“Hmm…”
Suddenly, the pain I was feeling ceased. I was so confused, but I wanted to get up to see how I was now. Unfortunately, she stopped me.
“I only stopped the pain a little. You still can’t move from here, but at least you can spin your body if you wanna be in a better position.”
“I see.”
“By the way, your friend wants to come in too.”
Immediately after she left the room, Cloe entered and approached me.
“Sorry, we can’t make a bet in my current state. We could play something like chess if that-.”
She didn’t let me end before punching the wall with strength. It was obvious that something angered her.
“...”
“Why did you do that?!”
“What?”
“That fight…”
“Yeah, I was being imprudent doing that challenge, but that’s because-.”
“It’s not that!...Why did you lose in such a pathetic way?!”
Cloe’s eyes didn’t show anger, instead, I noticed frustration. Fran tried to talk with her, but that didn’t end in a good way.
“He can’t decide that! He did his best in-.”
“Shut up! You don’t know him!”
“What do you-.”
“He’s stronger than that! Such humiliation shouldn't be possible!”
“You don’t know the situation! He didn’t know his opponent!”
“Still! He’s able to do more than-.”
“Shut up you both!”
I didn’t want to hear them fighting like that, so I had no other option than raising my voice. Both were really shocked, so I tried to talk.
“It doesn’t matter what I could have done at the time. I lost, I made mistakes, that’s what happened.”
“But-.”
“I’m frustrated, but I’m the only one who should be like that.”
“...I know…”
Cloe left the room slamming the door. Now I was alone with Fran again.
“What’s her problem?”
“I’d like to know. I know she gets angry easily, but this is the first time I see her like that.”
“How can you be his friend?”
“Maybe her ways to do things are incorrect, but I know she has a good side. Thanks to her I’m here right now…”
“Still…”
“She will be better after eating some desserts and venting.”
“If you say so…”
“You shouldn't be in classes right now by the way?”
“Classes are over for today…Also, I asked to look after you, so I'm fine here.”
“I slept too much.”
“Yeah…”
“...”
“...You…Didn’t hear anything while sleeping, right?”
“Huh, no.”
“G-Great…”
“...”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I just noticed, your voice sounds a little different from usual.”
“Well…I-I just screamed, probably I raised it too much.”
“No, you had that tone even before.”
“...”
“...”
“...Okay…Maybe I was singing a lullaby…”
“...Hehe.”
“Don’t laugh!”
“I like having a friend like you, it’s a nice contrast to my usual friendships.”
“Please don’t compare me with Cloe…”
“Well, do it.”
“Huh?”
“The lullaby. I wasn’t able to hear it, now I’m curious.”
“I really need to do it?”
“C’mon, just a verse.”
“...Ugh, just…I will do it but please don’t look at me!”
“We have sung together a lot of times.”
“This is more embarrassing!”
“Okay okay.”
I spend my time in the infirmary having fun with Fran. That defeat hurt a lot my pride and my self-esteem, but now, I just wanted to relax and forget everything.
