Chapter 40:

The Week

PSW AU: The Amazon's Dream

SUNDAY

It was 12 in the afternoon. Sarah was at church. Suzanna was still in bed, staring at the ceiling. Her phone rang and she answered, "Hello?"

"Hi," said Simon, "How are you doing?"

"I'm fine," she said.

"Okay, then."

And then he hung up.

MONDAY

Sarah was at school. Suzanna was on the couch, watching tv. Her phone rang and she answered, "Hello?"

"Hello again," Simon said, "How's it going?"

"... Fine..."

"Great."

She opened her mouth, and he hung up.

TUESDAY

Suzanna was seated at the kitchen counter, nibbling on a single slice of toast. Her phone rang and she answered, "Hello?"

"Hey," he said, "How goes it?"

"Fine," she said through her teeth.

"Good," he said, "How are the cuts, are they healing?"

"Yeah..."

"Excellent. Bye then."

"Hey-" she began, before he hung up again.

She growled and tossed her toast.

WEDNESDAY

Suzanna was doing push-ups in the living room.

Her phone rang, and she ignored it. It rang again, and she ignored it again. Then it rang a third time, and she got off the ground and answered,

"Hel-lo?"

"Hello. How are-"

"Fine!" she finally snapped, "I am fine. Just stop calling me, please! I'll see you on Saturday."

She hung up and tossed her phone back onto the couch.

THURSDAY

Suzanna was in bed. Once again, staring at the ceiling. Her door opened, and Sarah poked her head in,

"You awake?"

"Yeah."

"Cool. I'm off, text me if you need anything, okay?"

"Will do."

"And Suzy?"

"Yeah?"

"Go outside today, will you?"

"I'll try..."

"No, you're gonna do it," Sarah demanded, "Before I get back, I want you to spend at least 1 hour outside of this building."

She then pointed her finger and narrowed her eyes, "I'll know if you didn't," before smiling and waving, "Ciao."

"Bye."

With Sarah gone, Suzanna closed her eyes. Her phone rang and she ignored it until it stopped. It rang again and again. She put pillows over her ears until it stopped. She sighed and removed them. Then it rang again and again and again.

She finally had enough and picked it up. Upon seeing that it was Simon, she rejected the call and went back to-

It started ringing again before the Narrator could even finish his last sentence. The nerve of this guy.

Now, Suzanna was even more annoyed, and she answered,

"I thought I told you to stop-"

"Have you eaten anything today?"

"What?"

"It's a yes or no question. Have you eaten anything today?"

"Well, no..."

(I haven't even gotten out of bed.)

"I'm sending you an address for a restaurant," he said, "If it's not too far from you and you don't have any plans, meet me there in two hours."

She sat up, "Wait. Huh?"

"Do this for me and I won't bother you anymore."

"I... uh..."

"And if you do decide to show up, try to look decent, yes?"

She heard another, deadpan voice on the other end that she didn't recognise, saying, "Real smooth, Casanova."

"Shut up!" Simon snapped at the other person before hanging up the phone.

Suzanna sat there in confusion as the restaurant's address was sent to her. Followed by a message asking her to let him know if and when she's coming.

She frowned deeply.

(What in the world is he-)

Her eyes bulged with realisation, and her entire face resembled a tomato.

(Did he just... ask me out...)

She finished that thought aloud, "...ON A DATE?!"
