Chapter 34:
Irregular Hero: Spirit Tamer Doesn't Want to Lose (異常勇者シリーズ: 精霊テイマーは失いたくない)
Boring days without anything happening. Around with all of my boring packmates.
All boring things like following the pack of the leader, but for what exactly?
The boredom is killing me…
“Kill your own kins, and you will get stronger.”
It was a sudden thing. A voice came directly into my head, telling me to kill my own kins.
My boredom reached the peak at that time, so I think I immediately attacked my pack leader and killed him on the spot.
All of my packmates grouped on me, but I somehow managed to kill everyone, barely surviving.
It was a great sensation, the first time I felt alive.
“Dig holes to another path, and get even stronger!”
Again… with that voice…
But right, I can feel myself getting stronger after killing all my kins…
Maybe if I follow what that voice said, I can get over this boredom…!
And so… began my journey of digging holes to other paths, to find monsters I never saw before, and started killing them to make myself stronger.
At first, it was fun… and then it somehow got bland.
“Those are Inari Foxes, if you eat them, they might give you the special mutation and make you even stronger.”
… Now I know, that voice wasn’t me telling myself to do things. Someone is telling me to do so.
I started killing those foxes, and I had some fun because I can listen to their look and voice of despair! This is the first time I can understand other monsters other than my kins!
Ahh… the look on their face, their bravado, I can’t get enough of them…!
So I enjoyed myself to the max, and slaughtered almost all of them…
But then suddenly, that clearly different creature managed to hurt me with some strange tools, and saved one of the foxes.
That angered me for a moment, but the voice then said…
“Let them get stronger, and amuse you. Therefore, you’ll get even stronger.”
… following the voice, I decided to let them away this time.
>X<
We met again! Aha! The fox looks stronger than before!
“Not yet. They are not ripe yet.”
Because of the voice, I had to restrain myself from killing them.
But boredom is killing me, so I toyed with them.
They are so desperate, trying to get through me. I love their efforts, and the face when they know they are not going anywhere far!
Agh! Something hot hit me in the eye…!
It was that little fox… heh! Interesting! So those foxes can get this strong, huh!?
I’ll look forward to your growth!
>X<
“Ahh~ it was fun until they somehow escaped!” I said as I keep digging holes on the walls.
I started passing some monsters that clearly look weak, because they won’t get me stronger nor will satisfy my boredom.
And one day… I basically stumbled upon great toys.
5 creatures who look similar to the ones the fox is with… huh? Ah, so one of them escaped and left these 4, huh?
Boring… I had no interest in such weakling!
And so, I killed all of them, and ate them until only bones were left.
I can feel myself getting stronger than ever, so those creatures are great fodder, huh!?
I’m looking forward to eating those two…!
>X<
I’ve seen through all the paths, and reached my boredom to the max ever since I got so much stronger.
I’ve been ignoring monsters, hoping they will get stronger and will face me someday.
I want to get rid of this boredom… Please, I want to have fun! I want to feel alive!
“Dig holes underground, and you will be able to fight them fair and square.”
It’s been so long since I heard any voices, it caught me a little bit off guard.
It’s finally time to fight them, huh!?
“Wait, what will digging holes underground make though?”
“It will crumble the safe zone, the place that won’t let wild monsters in. They won’t be able to access the safe zone anymore and will lose the place to escape to, so they will have no other choice than to fight you.”
This is the longest line the voice has ever said to me, and they are so confusing… but to put it simply, I can fight them if I do what the voice says, right!?
Then it’s nothing to think much about, let’s get right to it!
And so, I started digging… and eventually, crumbled the area below my three fated enemies!
>X<
The little fox has gotten braver than ever, nothing like I saw before.
He amused me for some while, but nothing much to kill my boredom…
I killed him and ate his body. I could feel my body getting stronger, and saw my fur turned white…
So this is the special mutation the voice told me about…
What a fateful thing, to finally mutate by eating the bravest fox.
I wanted to see how that creature who hurt my nose before, react when he saw the fox’s head lying in front of him.
Haha! I’m glad that he properly got angry! But same as that fox, he is not hurting me anywhere… It is a shame!
Let’s see what kind of face he will make when I kill the other!
And so, I threw some rubbles to the other one, but the male creature started to gain speed faster than ever and saved the female.
“That’s interesting!” I said.
He tried his best, but I was finally able to hit him with my tail.
“Wait, don’t kill him yet. He’s about to ripe.”
The voice told me to stop again, and I got excited by what that meant.
Some lights shined on the creature’s arm, and some lights started to gather at the human.
When I realized some lights were coming out from my body, I smiled.
“It must be that fox! He’s coming back to fight me again!”
And yes, I waited for them to have a reunion.
But they are doing it for a little bit longer than I thought, it’s getting boring. So I interrupted them, and then the fox, enveloped by lights and transformed into something almost the same size as me!
This should get rid of my boredom!
…
Ah… no… this is not what is supposed to happen…!
This is not it…! I’m supposed to have a fierce fight with all of you, and win in the end…!
The voice… Where is that voice!? Why did it end up like this!?
“Since he has awakened, I have no use of you anymore. Well done, my pawn.”
Ah… I see… so I was made to dance by the owner of that voice all of this time, huh…
What a foolish end… indeed fitting for me…
Well done, the three of you… and thanks… for accompanying me with my journey of satisfying my boredom…
