Chapter 11:
Neo/Re: Epic − New and Returning Legends of Another World: Volume 1
As Shirou picked himself up from the massive gust that had blown him back into the side of a mountain, he couldn't help but notice how yelling and screaming there was.. As he ran back towards the clearing, he saw most of the little version of the rock dragon fly to and attack to heir much larger original. However, the dragons weren't the only one that were flying.
Shirou couldn't help but notice what appeared to Hiro, flying above the group and swerving around he rock dragon's big swings of its large arms. As he ran closer to him, he saw that Tommy and Lia were also there. But they also seemed different, Especially, Lia and she moved with blistering speed to ward the various little rock dragons trying to get back to the big one, breaking them into little pieces with a sign punch or kick. Meanwhile, as the little rock dragon's seemed to go for Tommy, he would extend his hand and the little monsters would crumble apart and lose their form. However, both Lia and Tommy's methods didn't seem very effective, as the rock creatures just seemed to put themselves back together and a while.
Before he could question what or how they were doing what they were doing, he heard Tommy yell,
"Hiro keep it busy while Lia and I get the others outta here."
Tommy ran back towards the rest of students with Lia following. As they ran past him, Shirou saw one of the smaller dragons flying after Lia.
"Watch out," he yelled to Lia who turned back just in time see the dragon fly towards her. Instead of jumping out the way, like Shirou expected Lia to do, she instead jumped up into a spin over the dragon before grabbing it's tail and spinning it before slamming it into the ground. The dragon, now a bag of rocks, slowly moved to put itself back together. They needed another play, Shirou thought.
Before Shirou could even question what was happening or offer a suggestion, Lia appeared in front of him, faster than he noticed, before picking him up and carrying him as she dashed towards the other students. She was so fast than when she stopped next to the other students, the momentum caused him to fall and roll onto the ground before hitting the rocks that blocked the entrance.
Standing up, he turned back around to see Hiro floating higher and higher before he shot forward at the massive dragon and threw a punch against it's face. A bunch of the rocks that made up the dragon's head flew off before other rocks along its body moved in to fill the space. With it's new mouth it opened his jaws to try and blast its toxic gas breath on Hiro again. But before it could open it's mouth all the way, Hiro flew up and spun forward, brought his foot down on the top of the dragon's head forcing it not only to close it's mouth before it could release the gas, but force it to use more rocks to remake its head again. Before Hiro could react, the dragon raised and extended wings before bringing them forward as it to take off. But instead of using to take off for flight, it used the motion to fire a bunch rocks at the students, still stuck in front of the exit.
Almost immediately, the hundred's of rocks flew past Hiro straight towards the vulnerable students. As they got closer, the other student's tried to cover themselves before Lia stood between them and the incoming rock blast. In a flash of light, two massive glowing wings seemed to sprout from her a back before curling around her to form a massive shield between the rocks and the students. Every rock that slammed into the shield broke apart and fell to the ground before her. However, it had hit the wings with enough force that Lia had been pushed back. And the dragon extended it's wings out again as if to fire again
"Hurry up Tommy, this won't last forever!" Lia yelled at him, "I don't know how many more of them my wings can.
"Don't tell me how to do my job," he yelled back before turning to Masaru. Masaru, like Shirou, was totally lost by almost everything that was happening. But before he could raise any questions, Tommy placed him hand over his face and spoke to him, "The rocks are the source of your rage. Embrace it so you can destroy them." As he said the words, Shirou could swear that there were multiple other voices saying them at the exact same time Tommy was. But suddenly, Massaru's eyes went dead as he started yelling and entered a wild frenzy. As he did, his body seemed to grow larger, his muscles growing stronger from a supernatural source as he ran towards the rocks blocking their path and smashed right through them, opening a path for their escape.
"The path's clear, go, go, go!" Tommy yelled as he helped the last of the students and Miss Fujiwara get through to Captain Valeria on the other side. After confirming that they were all through, he tried to push Shirou through as well before a rock flew by them, forcing Tommy to push Shirou away to avoid getting hit. As he pulled himself back up, Shirou saw that Lia had joined Hiro in trying to fight the dragon to no avail. No matter how hard they punched, kicked , or sliced at the creature, it just immediately replaced it injuries with more rocks. It was like they were fighting in its perfect habitat. As Shirou saw Tommy get up and run towards the dragon, Shirou followed. He didn't know what had compelled to follow him into danger, but he did.
As Tommy stopped a bit afar from the dragon, he turned around to see Shirou.
"What are you doing? Get out of here before that thing hurts you," he yelled.
"What about you?" Shirou yelled back, "It seems like no matter what either of you do it just keeps healing itself."
"It's not healing itself," Tommy yelled, "It's continuously covering itself up so we can't hit the core. We need to find a way to disrupt the magical field it's using to control the rocks, but nothings working"
Lia came down next to them and slammed into the stone floor before standing up.
"Why won't your powers work on it," she yelled at Tommy, "I thought the could cancel magic out."
"It doesn't last for long enough to path to its core," he yelled back, "I−"
He stopped talking and turned to Shirou, a smirk spreading across his face.
"I have a plan," he yelled out to Lia and Hiro, "Hiro, keep it busy for a bit."
"No problem," Hiro yelled back before the dragon used his hand slam Hiro into the side of a mountain.
Tommy turned back to Shirou and grabbed his arms.
"Can you summon the sword again?" he yelled at Shirou, grabbing him tighter.
"Wha... What?" asked Shirou, now thoroughly confused at what was going on.
"The Spell Blade sword, "Tommy yelled to clarify, "Can you call it back?"
Shirou, still a bit confused, closed his eyes and started think really hard, calling the sword back to him. As he opened his eyes, he felt something slid form in his right and and grabbed a hold of it The Spell Blade sword was back in his hands. Tommy looked and let out a laugh of success.
"Good," he continued, "now don't let go of it no matter what."
"Why?" yelled Shirou, confused at what he was supposed to do.
"Lia's gonna grab you fly you at the monster," Tommy explained, "Just hold it out in front of you and remember to never let go."
"What?" Shirou asked as he felt himself be lifted up by Lia.
"Just hold it forward," Lia confirmed, "You can do this!"
As Shirou held out he sword in front of him, he felt Lia go faster and faster. As they got closer the dragon, he felt Lia weave past rocks as they were being thrown at, until the got close enough to drive the blade though the dragon's head. As the blade made contact with the dragon, it seemed cleanly pierce an invisible barrier. As they went, through the head, Shiro closed his eyes expecting to hit by all the rocks. When he opened his eyes, he saw that Lia had protected them both with her glowing wings as the shot right through the other side of the dragon's head. As Lia turned to look back at Tommy and Hiro, Shirou saw that unlike before, the rock's didn't move back into place.
"Now Hiro," they heard Tommy scream. In one big motion, Hiro spread arms out before bringing his hands together to clap. It sounded less like a clap and more like an explosion as the rest of the rocks covering the dragons head were blown away and Lia was even pushed back by the shockwave.
With all the rocks gone, Shirou saw it, a glowing green rock that had been covered up, it's core
Tommy extended his right hand out to the core as a menacing smile spread across his face.
"This is your end," he yelled, as he closed his hand with his fist. Immediately, the core exploded in a big, green explosion as the rocks that made up the dragons' body started to slowly fall to the bottom of the mountains.
After Lia dropped him back onto the clearing, Shirou ran up to the balcony to look down as Hiro flew down and landed as well. The thousands upon thousands of rocks fell to the bottom of the range, stirring a massive dust cloud as they landed.
Holy shit, They actually did it, Shiro thought to himself, they defeated a monster. As he turned around, he felt Hiro give him a pat on the back as Tommy ran up to give him a hug.
"That was brilliant man," he said to him, before releasing him, "You were brilliant!" Shirou started to hear cheering and applause from the beyond the entrance as the other student's and soldiers celebrating their victory. He had never felt this way before. Beloved by so many people celebrating his success. Tommy put arm around him and pointed to him,
"This guy's the MVP of today. We wouldn't have stood a chance without him!" They continued to cheer as Jun even started a chant, "Shirou! Shirou! Shirou! Shirou! Shirou!..." As they continued to celebrate him, Shirou felt his eyes welling up.
That's when he saw her running up to him. Shirou started to run to Mayumi as she ran up to him, tears falling out of her eyes. Even Kazuya and Jun were running up to him. As he got closer and closer to her, his eyes widened and his changed to terror as he pushed Mayumi out of the way. As Mayumi hit the ground, she looked up saw a smaller rock dragon bring its claws down against Shirou's chest before it flew down over the balcony. Shirou fell backwards onto the balcony three large gashes on his chest. Mayumi scrambled up to get to Shirou as a large, rocky arm swung rose form below the balcony and slammed down on top o fit. In a single strike, most of the balcony collapsed as as the dragon's arms pulled down more stone. Even if he wanted to get up an run towards' her, he couldn't bring himself up because of the injuries on his body. As he slowly seemed to fall down along with most of the balcony, he felt someone catch him by the arm before the platform under him completely gave way. He looked up to see Mayumi holding onto her as he saw Lia grab Tommy and fly towards Kazuya and Jun, pushing them back towards the exit. As he looked down, he saw as multiped smaller dragons started to form around a larger dragon. Not as large as the one they fought, but no laughing size either. As it attempted to fly up to them, He saw Hiro fly down and slam into the dragon, causing it to try and escape. As this happened, Shirou felt' Mayumi's hand start to slip as the stone she was standing on started to crumble. Shirou looked at her as she tried so hard to keep hold of him. He met her eyes as she slowly shook his head. Her expression became panicked as she started to shake her head and her tears ran down her face faster. Shirou looked down and yelled, "Hiro!"
Hiro looked up at him as he gave him a nod of understanding. Shirou turned back to Mayumi and mustered all his strength into a smile, "I believe in you."
He let go of her hand just as the stone she was laying on began to give way. Before she could fall or go after him, Shirou watched as Hiro sped by and grabbed he, taking her back to the exit and away from the danger.
As he fell, he felt a strange sense of peace. He was gonna die saving Mayumi, what more could he asked for back home.
As the thought cross his mind, he felt himself get snatched up by rocky claws as he looked to see one of the smaller rock dragons grab him and fly away with him.
No, no, no, no. He couldn't just be grabbed like this and taken away. He tried to resist, but the adrenaline in his system seemed go away as he fully felt the gashes on his torso. He felt weak as he gave up and let the dragon take him, not knowing where they were headed. He could barely stay conscious because of all the pain he was. It didn't take him long him to lose consciousness as well.
An unknown amount of time later...
Shirou barely came to consciousness before he was quickly reminded of his current position; held by the a small dragon made up of rocks as they flew over a forest. Shirou looked around, but didn't see any other dragons. His kidnapper was alone. Immediately, he tried racking his brain for a solution before he remember the role he had played in defeating the bigger one. With as much effort and focus he could muster given all the pain he was, he called upon his Spell Blade to return to him. As he looked he saw a small beam of blue light fly towards his free hand and materialize. He immediately pushed the sword into the body of the rock dragon. It let out a horrible cry as it came apart, no longer held by magic.
As Shirou was freed, he fell down and hit a bunch trees and branches on his way down. It hurt more than anything he could possible imagine, but he tried to stay conscious as his body fell through and hit dozens of branches and trunks, slowing down before he came to a full stop against a sturdy branch of a large tree.
He tried to keep himself on the branch with his arms, but the pain from his torso injuries shot up, making let go of the branch. A loud thud was heard by every animal nearby in the forest as Shirou fell to the ground, his head landing on a large rock as he crumpled onto the ground
